0:06 “And Allah citeth an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh when she said: My Lord! Build for me a home with thee in the Garden, and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from evil-doing folk;” (66:11)

0:16 When Allah revealed His message to Moses, peace be upon him,

0:19 and commanded him to go to Pharaoh and call him to Allah,

0:24 Pharaoh met this call with outright rejection and arrogance,

0:28 and murdered the magicians who had believed in Moses, peace be upon him.

0:33 Moses continued his mission for a period of time,

0:38 yet none believed in Moses except some youths among his people,

0:42 out of fear of Pharaoh and their chiefs, lest he persecute them,

0:46 “But none trusted Moses, save some scions of his people, (and they were) in fear of Pharaoh and their chiefs, that he would persecute them. Lo! Pharaoh was verily a tyrant in the land, and lo! he verily was of the wanton.” (10:83)

0:49 and indeed, he was among the transgressors.

0:52 Pharaoh was surrounded by an evil entourage just like himself,

0:56 nurtured under his own hands,

0:58 and he backed them with his authority so they could terrorize the people.

1:02 When this corrupt clique witnessed

1:05 the people responding to the call of Moses,

1:08 they incited Pharaoh against Moses and those who believed with him,

1:12 saying to Pharaoh:

1:14 “The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: (O King), wilt thou suffer Moses and his people to make mischief in the land, and flout thee and thy gods? He said: We will slay their sons and spare their women, for lo! we are in power over them.” (7:127)

1:18 "Will you leave Moses and his people?"

1:21 “The chiefs of Pharaoh's people said: (O King), wilt thou suffer Moses and his people to make mischief in the land, and flout thee and thy gods? He said: We will slay their sons and spare their women, for lo! we are in power over them.” (7:127)

1:26 He said, "We will slaughter their sons

1:30 and spare their women;

1:33 and indeed, we are subjugators over them."

1:38 Thus Pharaoh reverted to the tactic of murdering children,

1:42 and humiliating and degrading women.

1:45 His return to this tactic this time

1:47 was not out of fear that a newborn would bring about

1:51 the end of Pharaoh's kingdom at his hands,

1:53 but rather to avert people from the religion of Allah,

1:56 and to drive them away from believing in the call of Moses, peace be upon him.

2:01 This is the conduct of cowards devoid of any chivalry,

2:06 who are incapable of matching argument with argument,

2:10 so they resort to inciting tyrants against those who call to Allah.

2:14 To turn people away from the religion of Allah

2:18 and keep them from rallying around the callers to truth,

2:20 they employ such vile methods

2:22 as imprisoning women and violating their honor,

2:25 and jailing children and terrifying them.

2:28 This Pharaonic method continues

2:31 to be practiced against Islamic callers

2:34 across many societies

2:36 to this very day.

2:38 The Christians used it in al-Andalus against the Muslims,

2:42 the Jews have used it in Palestine,

2:45 and tyrants have used it throughout the lands of Islam;

2:49 the prisons of Syria are certainly not far from our minds.

2:52 Yet by doing this,

2:55 “Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah disdaineth (aught) save that He shall perfect His light, however much the disbelievers are averse.” (9:32)

3:08 "even if the disbelievers detest it."

3:11 "It is He who sent His Messenger

3:17 with guidance and the religion of truth

3:21 to make it superior over all religions,

3:25 even if the polytheists detest it."

3:30 But the astonishing surprise,

3:32 which had never crossed Pharaoh's mind,

3:35 was that faith would enter his very palace—

3:38 just as Moses had entered it in the cradle—

3:41 and settle firmly in the heart of Pharaoh's wife,

3:44 who had once said,

3:46 “And the wife of Pharaoh said: (He will be) a consolation for me and for thee. Kill him not. Peradventure he may be of use to us, or we may choose him for a son. And they perceived not.” (28:9)

3:51 so Allah benefited her through the call of Moses,

3:54 and she believed in him.

3:56 Thereupon Pharaoh did not hesitate to torture her

3:59 in order to drive her away from the religion of Allah,

4:01 even though she was the closest person to him.

4:04 He crucified her under the scorching sun

4:06 and subjected her to severe torment.

4:09 On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him,

4:13 Pharaoh pegged his wife down with four stakes through her hands and feet,

4:19 and whenever they dispersed away from her,

4:22 the angels would shade her.

4:24 Then she said:

4:26 “And Allah citeth an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh when she said: My Lord! Build for me a home with thee in the Garden, and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from evil-doing folk;” (66:11)

4:35 and her home in Paradise was unveiled to her;

4:39 recorded by Abu Ya'la.

4:41 Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

4:44 "Allah answered her supplication

4:46 and built for her a home in Paradise."

4:49 Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

4:52 "She requested that the home be near Him before asking that it be in Paradise,

4:57 for the Neighbor comes before the home."

5:00 Al-Sa'di, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

5:03 "Allah described her with faith, humble supplication to her Lord,

5:08 and asking her Lord for the most exalted of requests,

5:11 which is entry into Paradise

5:13 and proximity to the Generous Lord."

5:16 This humble supplication to which Shaykh al-Sa'di, may Allah have mercy on him, refers

5:22 is the believer's instrument

5:24 that must never be neglected for a single moment,

5:27 nor should its efficacy ever be doubted

5:29 in resisting the pharaohs of our time.

5:32 Allah Almighty said, praising the believers

5:35 who beseech Him humbly in such circumstances:

6:07 “How should ye not fight for the cause of Allah and of the feeble among men and of the women and the children who are crying: Our Lord! Bring us forth from out this town of which the people are oppressors! Oh, give us from thy presence some protecting friend! Oh, give us from Thy presence some defender!” (4:75)

6:17 "And appoint for us from Yourself a protector,

6:21 and appoint for us from Yourself a helper."

6:27 The believer possesses the mightiest weapon in the world:

6:30 supplication, humble entreaty, and seeking refuge in Allah, the Exalted and Majestic,

6:35 to lift the oppression of the oppressors—

6:37 especially when this supplication comes from the vulnerable Muslims

6:42 and from women in general.

6:44 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

6:48 "Are you given victory and provided for except through your vulnerable ones?"

6:53 Recorded by al-Bukhari.

6:55 In the narration of al-Nasa'i:

6:57 "This Ummah is only granted victory through its vulnerable ones:

7:01 through their supplication, their prayer, and their sincerity."

7:05 My noble sister,

7:08 it lies within your power to be a means of granting victory to the Ummah,

7:11 relieving the anguish of its scholars and callers from the tyrants' prisons,

7:16 through your humble supplication to Allah, your righteous prayers for them,

7:21 praying for the destruction of the oppressors and despots,

7:24 and lifting this distress from the Ummah.

7:27 Beware of showing allegiance to the oppressors,

7:30 praising their actions,

7:32 praying for them to have long life,

7:35 or inclining toward them in any way;

7:37 for Allah has warned us against that, saying:

7:41 “And incline not toward those who do wrong lest the Fire touch you, and ye have no protecting friends against Allah, and afterward ye would not be helped.” (11:113)

7:55 You have in Asiyah bint Muzahim,

8:02 the wife of Pharaoh, an excellent role model,

8:05 as she asked Allah to save her from agreeing with Pharaoh's conduct:

8:11 “And Allah citeth an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh when she said: My Lord! Build for me a home with thee in the Garden, and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from evil-doing folk;” (66:11)

8:16 "And save me from Pharaoh and his deeds,

8:19 and save me from the wrongdoing people."

8:22 Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

8:25 "She says: Rescue me from the torment of Pharaoh,

8:29 and from committing his deeds,"

8:31 that is, his disbelief in Allah.

8:34 Al-Sa'di, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

8:37 "Allah described her with faith, humble supplication to her Lord,

8:41 and asking her Lord for the most exalted of requests,

8:44 which is entry into Paradise

8:46 and proximity to the Generous Lord;

8:49 and she asked Allah to save her from the trial of Pharaoh

8:53 and his wicked deeds,

8:55 as well as from the trial of every oppressor."

8:57 So Allah answered her supplication,

8:59 and she lived in complete faith, steadfast resolve,

9:03 and deliverance from trials.

9:06 For this reason, the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

9:10 "Many men attained perfection,

9:12 but among women none attained perfection

9:15 except Maryam, daughter of 'Imran,

9:17 and Asiyah, daughter of Muzahim,"

9:19 and Khadijah bint Khuwaylid;

9:22 "and the superiority of 'A'ishah over other women

9:25 is like the superiority of Tharid over all other food."

9:29 Therefore, Allah made her an example for the believers,

9:34 saying:

9:35 "And Allah has set forth an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh."

9:40 Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

9:43 "The point of the parable

9:45 is that a believer's connection to a disbeliever

9:47 does not harm him in the least,

9:49 so long as he separates himself from his disbelief and deeds;

9:52 for the sin of another

9:54 does not harm an obedient believer at all in the Hereafter,

9:57 even if he suffers from it in this worldly life

10:00 on account of the collective punishment that descends upon the inhabitants of the earth

10:03 when they neglect the command of Allah,

10:05 falling generally upon all."

10:07 Thus, her connection to Pharaoh did not harm the wife of Pharaoh,

10:10 though he was among the worst of disbelievers;

10:13 nor did the connection of the wives of Noah and Lot benefit them,

10:16 despite being wedded

10:18 to two messengers of the Lord of the worlds.

10:21 The wife of Pharaoh triumphed with Paradise,

10:25 while Allah destroyed Pharaoh and his legions,

10:28 bringing an end to the suffering of woman

10:30 during the era of Pharaoh and at his hands;

10:33 and the word of Allah remained supreme.

10:36 Then our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was sent,

10:40 and through his message the suffering of woman came to an end—

10:43 suffering she had endured in the pre-Islamic Jahiliyyah before his advent.

10:46 Allah reformed the earth after its corruption;

10:50 thus, whoever treads the path of Pharaoh

10:53 will perish just as Pharaoh perished.

10:56 In the pharaohs and tyrants of our contemporary era lies a lesson for us:

11:00 some of them have fled, and some have perished,

11:03 while this religion and those who hold fast to it

11:07 have remained mighty and exalted,

11:09 unharmed by the plots of the plotters

11:12 or the schemes of the schemers.

11:14 Allah Almighty said:

11:16 "And they had planned their plot,

11:19 but their plot is with Allah,

11:22 even though their plot was such

11:25 as to remove mountains."

11:28 "So never think that Allah

11:32 will fail in His promise to His messengers;

11:35 indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might, Owner of Retribution."

11:42 We ask Allah Almighty

11:45 to protect us from the injustice of the oppressors,

11:48 to destroy the enemies of the Ummah

11:50 among the heretics and hypocrites,

11:53 and to make us among the dwellers of the Gardens of Delight.

11:57 Thus ends the story,

12:00 and praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds—

12:05 the story of woman's suffering

12:09 in the time of Moses, peace be upon him.
