so that he might be gladdened by the sight of him and rejoice in meeting him.

before the news spread through the fortunate and envied Yathrib

that the Prophet, may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him,

and his companion, al-Siddiq, were on their way there.

Joy flooded every house,

and happiness filled every heart.

Eyes and hearts were fixed upon the blessed road

that carried the footsteps of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and his companion to Yathrib.

The young boys began to announce with the brightness of every morning

that Muhammad had arrived.

Anas would rush toward him along with the other young boys,

but he would see nothing,

and return dejected and sorrowful.

Then, on one morning, fragrant with dew,

"Muhammad and his companion are now near the city!"

The men began to head toward the blessed road

that brought them the Prophet of guidance and goodness.

They went forth, racing toward him in groups,

interspersed with swarms of young boys,

with joy beaming on their faces, flooding their small hearts,

and filling their youthful souls.

In the vanguard of these boys

was Anas Ibn Malik al-Ansari.

The Messenger, may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, approached with his companion, al-Siddiq,

and he moved among the teeming crowds of men and children.

As for the secluded women and young girls,

they climbed onto the rooftops of their houses,

and began to look for where the Messenger, may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, was,

saying, "Which one is he? Which one is he?"

That day was a day to be remembered,

one that Anas Ibn Malik continued to recall until he was over a hundred years old.

No sooner had the noble Messenger, peace be upon him, settled in the city

than al-Ghumaysa' bint Milhan, the mother of Anas, came to him,

His period of companionship with him lasted ten full years,

during which he drank from his guidance, by which he purified his soul,

and learned of his circumstances and reports,

Anas Ibn Malik received such noble treatment from the Messenger, peace be upon him,

for he is the most knowledgeable of them,

Anas Ibn Malik said:

"The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was the best of people in character,

the most open-hearted,

and the most compassionate.

He sent me one day on an errand, so I went out,

and I headed toward some boys playing in the market to play with them,

and I did not go to what he had commanded me.

When I reached them, I felt someone standing behind me and taking hold of my garment.

and there was the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, smiling and saying,

did you go where I commanded you?'

By Allah, I served him for ten years,

and he never said to anything I did, 'Why did you do that?'

would use the diminutive form of Anas's name to show affection and endearment.

Sometimes he would call him, "O Unays,"

and other times, "O my son."

He would shower him with advice and admonitions that filled his heart and captivated his mind.

Among them was his saying to him:

if you are able to wake up and go to sleep with no malice in your heart toward anyone, then do so.

O my son, that is from my Sunnah,

and whoever revives my Sunnah has loved me,

and whoever loves me will be with me in Paradise.

when you enter upon your family, give them the greeting of peace,

it will be a blessing for you and for your household."

Anas Ibn Malik lived for over eighty years after the death of the Prophet, peace be upon him,

during which he filled hearts with knowledge from the Great Messenger, peace be upon him,

and saturated minds with fiqh from the Prophetic wisdom,

and revived hearts with the guidance of the Prophet, peace be upon him, which he spread among the Companions and the Tabi'un,

and what he broadcast among the people of the noble sayings and magnificent deeds of the Great Messenger, peace be upon him.

Throughout this long life, Anas became a reference for the Muslims,

to whom they would turn whenever a matter became confusing to them,

and upon whom they would rely whenever a ruling was difficult for their understanding.

For instance, some of those who argued about the religion began to speak about the reality of the Prophet's Basin on the Day of Resurrection,

so they asked him about it, and he said,

"I never thought I would live to see the likes of you arguing about the Basin.

I have left old women behind me,

not one of whom performs a prayer without asking Allah to let her drink from the Basin of the Prophet, peace be upon him."

Anas Ibn Malik continued to live with the memory of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

for as long as he lived.

He was filled with joy at the day he met him,

and was generous with his tears over the day of his departure.

and was keen to follow him in his actions and sayings,

loving what he loved and hating what he hated.

the day he first met him,

and the day he last parted from him.

When he remembered the first day, he would be happy and exhilarated,

and when the second day crossed his mind,

he would wail and weep, and make those around him weep.

He would often say,

"I saw the Prophet, peace be upon him, the day he came to us,

and I saw him the day he was taken from us,

and I have never seen two days that resemble them.

On the day he entered the city, everything in it was illuminated,

and on the day he was about to depart to the side of his Lord,

everything in it became dark.

The last look I had of him was on Monday,

when the curtain of his chamber was drawn back,

and I saw his face as if it were a page of the Mushaf.

The people were standing behind Abu Bakr, looking at him,

and they were nearly overcome with distress,

but Abu Bakr signaled to them to remain steadfast.

Then the Messenger, peace be upon him, passed away at the end of that day,

and we never saw a sight more wondrous to us than his face, peace be upon him,

The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, prayed for Anas Ibn Malik more than once,

and among his supplications for him was:

"O Allah, grant him wealth and children,

and bless him in them."

Allah, the Exalted, answered the supplication of His Prophet, peace be upon him,

and Anas became the wealthiest of the Ansar,

and the one with the most descendants,

to the point that he saw over a hundred of his children and grandchildren.

Allah also blessed him in his life,

until he lived for a full century and three years more.

had great hope for the intercession of the Prophet, peace be upon him, for him on the Day of Resurrection,

When Anas Ibn Malik fell ill with his final illness,

"Prompt me to say: 'There is no god but Allah,
