Ibn Katheer, may God have mercy on him, said: “If it were not for him,” he means, “Halla when you heard it,” that is, that speech that you hurled at the Mother of the Believers, may God be pleased with her. The believing men and women thought good of themselves, that is, they measured that speech against themselves, and if it did not befit them, then the Mother of the Believers is more deserving of disavowing it in the first and most appropriate way.

By God, he did not break me.” He said, “The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, remained like that that day. Then he felt himself being dragged by a dog under our tent, so he ordered it to come out, then he took water in his hand and sprinkled its place.” When evening came, Gabriel met him and said to him, “You promised me that you would meet me yesterday.” He said, “Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture.” Then in the morning of that day, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, ordered the killing of the dogs. He even ordered the killing of the small wall dog and left the large wall dog.

That is why We rewarded them for what they disbelieved. And do We reward except the unbelievers? That is, do We reward the penalty of punishment? Based on the context, except for those who disbelieve in God and deny grace. When what happened to them befell them, they dispersed and were torn apart after they had been together. And God made them stories to speak of and names for the people. He used to use a proverb about them, and it is said, “Disperse the hands of Sheba.” So everyone speaks of what happened to them, but no one benefits from the lesson in them except those. God said, “Indeed, in this are signs for every patient, thankful, patient.” He bears hardship and adversity for the sake of God and is not displeased with it, but rather is patient over it, thankful for the blessing of God Almighty, acknowledging it, confessing, and praising those who gave it and spending it in obedience to Him. If he hears their story and what happened to them and to them, he knows by that that this punishment is a reward for their disbelief in God’s grace, and that whoever does the same as them does to him as he did to them, and that thanking God Almighty is a preserver of the blessing and averts vengeance, and that God’s messengers are truthful in what they told him, and that the reward is true, as he saw. A model in the abode of the world
The Qur’an is neither history nor stories, but rather guidance and sermon. It does not mention a story to explain the date of its occurrence, nor for the sake of thinking about it or comprehending its details. Rather, it mentions what it mentions for the sake of a lesson, as He said, “In their stories there was a lesson for those of understanding and an explanation of the ways of coming together.” He also said, “Sans have passed away before you, so travel in the land, and look at what was the end of the disbelievers.” He said, “The Sunnah of God, which has passed among His servants.” And other verses and incidents preceded, some of which are known. By God, God Almighty mentions from this and that whatever He wants to mention for the sake of the lesson and the admonition, so He suffices the story with the place of the lesson and the place of benefit, and does not present it in detail with its parts, which do not add to the lesson, but may distract from it.
The purpose of the stories of the Qur’an is to be a lesson and a consideration, not to narrate facts and to entertain people by narrating them and detailing them as an example to those with understanding. Therefore, the Noble Lord intends to point to the place of lesson and clarify it, and to the place of insight and explain it. These are the best ways to educate with history and enlightenment with the conditions of the forefathers. Indeed, man is the son of man. So whoever shows you a picture of the past with a lesson is showing you yourself with advice, and the past is always a light that shines for the future, for it is the lamp carried by those who seek and hope for guidance.
The mention of these stories in the Qur’an is evidence that it is from God Almighty, because the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, did not know this, neither he nor his people, as he stated in Surat Hud after detailing the story of Noah with his people by saying: “This is from the leaders of the unseen. We reveal it to you. You and your people did not know it before this. So be patient. Indeed, the end is for the righteous.” And as he said at the end of Surah Yusuf after narrating his story with his brothers, “This is from the leaders of the unseen. We reveal it to you,” and you were not with them when they gathered together. He ordered them while they were plotting
God Almighty restricts those who consider it to be of those with hearts, that is, minds that go in their understanding to the heart of matters and their truths and contemplate their principles and ends. Therefore, it is necessary for a woman to use her mind in contemplating the stories of women in the Qur’an so that she can take a lesson from them, be advised within herself, and set her life upright on what pleases God Almighty.
That is, the stories of this story and others, and this is an appendix to the story represented by it, and it includes it and other stories that are in the Qur’an, for in the stories there is contemplation and admonition, from which there is hope for their contemplation and admonition, because proverbs and recalling analogies have a great importance in guiding souls by them and bringing hidden conditions closer to astonished or heedless souls, because in theorizing about the specific story is the remembrance of witnessing the situation with the senses, unlike the remembrance without theorizing of the tangible thing.
