0:03 The story of our mother Hawwa (Eve).

0:08 Hawwa does not act arrogantly toward the truth.

0:13 Allah the Almighty says:

0:15 ﴾And [mention] when We said to the angels,

0:20 "Prostrate to Adam," and they prostrated,

0:23 except for Iblis; he refused.﴿

0:29 “And when We said unto the angels: Prostrate yourselves before Adam, they fell prostrate, all save Iblis. He demurred through pride, and so became a disbeliever.” (2:34)

0:33 When Allah created Adam,

0:37 He commanded His angels to prostrate to him as an act of honor and veneration.

0:42 Iblis refused to prostrate,

0:44 out of arrogance against the command of Allah.

0:46 So why did Iblis act arrogantly toward Adam?

0:50 Allah the Almighty explains in another place in the Qur'an

0:54 the reason for Iblis's arrogance.

0:56 He said:

0:58 ﴾[Allah] said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?"﴿

1:03 ﴾[Iblis] said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire

1:09 and created him from clay."﴿

1:13 And Allah the Almighty said:

1:15 “He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered!” (15:33)

1:19 “He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered!” (15:33)

1:25 Thus, the reason that prevented Iblis from prostrating,

1:29 and led him to act arrogantly against the command of Allah,

1:32 was the corrupt comparison between the nature of his own creation

1:36 and the nature of Adam's creation.

1:38 As for the angels,

1:41 when they were commanded to prostrate,

1:44 they prostrated in obedience to Allah.

1:47 Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

1:50 The prostration of the angels to Adam

1:53 was an honoring of Adam and an act of obedience to Allah,

1:56 not an act of worship toward Adam.

1:59 Qatadah said:

2:01 It was obedience to Allah,

2:03 and the prostration was toward Adam.

2:05 Allah honored Adam by having the angels prostrate to him.

2:09 In this, there is a benefit:

2:12 that when the angels obeyed Allah in what He commanded them regarding the prostration to Adam,

2:18 they did not look at the material from which they were created,

2:22 nor did they look at his work, but rather they focused on the command of Allah.

2:25 Their status was elevated.

2:27 As for Iblis,

2:29 when he disobeyed Allah

2:31 and did not prostrate to Adam out of arrogance,

2:34 the curse fell upon him,

2:36 and he was expelled from the mercy of Allah.

2:38 Likewise, it is said to the woman:

2:42 that when Allah commanded her to submit to her husband,

2:46 and to obey him in what he commands her of that which is obedience or permissible,

2:51 there is elevation for her if she complies.

2:55 But if she disobeys her husband,

2:57 she has shared in the trait of Iblis's disobedience,

3:00 which is refusal and arrogance.

3:03 For nothing truly prevents her from compliance

3:07 except for arrogance.

3:09 Indeed, a woman's arrogance and her refusal to comply with her husband

3:14 leads to belittling him and dismissing his opinion,

3:17 and consequently, belittling the rulings of the Sharia,

3:20 whether she realizes it or not.

3:23 Al-Qurtubi, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

3:27 Regarding the saying of Allah the Almighty:

3:29 ﴾And he was arrogant,﴿

3:30 "Arrogance" means considering oneself superior.

3:33 It is as if he disliked the prostration in his own estimation,

3:36 and considered it too great a thing to do for Adam.

3:39 Thus, the refusal to prostrate to Adam

3:42 was a dismissal of Allah's command and His wisdom.

3:45 Regarding this arrogance, the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, expressed:

3:49 "No one shall enter Paradise who has in his heart

3:52 a mustard seed's weight of arrogance."

3:55 A man said:

3:57 "A man likes his garment to be fine and his sandals to be fine."

4:02 He said: "Allah is Beautiful and loves beauty.

4:07 Arrogance is rejecting the truth and looking down upon people."

4:11 Reported by Muslim.

4:13 The meaning of "rejecting the truth" (batr al-haqq)

4:15 is to dismiss it and invalidate it.

4:17 And "looking down upon people" (ghamtu al-nas)

4:19 is to belittle them and hold them in contempt.

4:23 Everyone who dismisses any of the commands of Allah the Almighty,

4:27 or the commands of His Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

4:31 his ruling is the same as his [Iblis's].

4:33 And this is a matter upon which there is no disagreement.

4:36 Muhammad Rashid Rida, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

4:39 "Arrogance" (istikbar) means haughtiness,

4:42 which is appearing with the attribute of pride,

4:45 the effects of which include turning away from the truth.

4:50 So let the woman be wary of that,

4:53 for the beginning of arrogance in a woman's soul

4:56 arises from her feeling

4:58 that she has a merit over the man that prevents her from yielding to him.

5:02 And this is what happened to Iblis.

5:05 Al-Qurtubi, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

5:08 Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said:

5:11 He used to see for himself

5:13 that he had a merit over the angels because of what he possessed.

5:17 Therefore he said:

5:19 "I am better than him."

5:21 And that is why Allah the Almighty said:

5:24 “He said: O Iblis! What hindereth thee from falling prostrate before that which I have created with both My hands? Art thou too proud or art thou of the high exalted?” (38:75)

5:30 "When I created with My [own] hands."

5:33 “He said: O Iblis! What hindereth thee from falling prostrate before that which I have created with both My hands? Art thou too proud or art thou of the high exalted?” (38:75)

5:39 Meaning: You acted arrogantly, yet you have no grounds for arrogance.

5:42 And I did not act arrogantly when I created him with My hands.

5:46 Pride belongs to Me.

5:48 Therefore He said:

5:50 ﴾And he was among the disbelievers.﴿

5:52 Al-Shinqiti, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

5:56 Everyone who rejects the texts of revelation using [corrupt] analogies,

6:00 his predecessor in that is Iblis.

6:03 And this analogy of Iblis, may Allah curse him,

6:06 is invalid for three reasons:

6:09 The first is that it is a corrupt consideration,

6:13 because it contradicts the explicit text.

6:16 So the woman who measures the texts with her own intellect

6:19 falls into what Iblis fell into: rejecting the truth and acting arrogantly toward it.

6:24 If Iblis approached the man

6:28 through the door of rejecting Allah's honoring of the woman,

6:32 then he approaches the woman through the door of rejecting Allah's favoring of the man.

6:37 And whoever responds to him,

6:40 the destruction of the family will be at their hands.

6:43 We will continue in a future meeting, if Allah wills.

6:47 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
