0:08 "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves."

0:13 O Eve.

0:14 All people commit sins and make mistakes.

0:17 But the fortunate one is he who, when he sins, repents.

0:20 And turns back to Allah.

0:23 The story of our mother Eve has taught us.

0:26 The etiquette of admitting one's sin.

0:28 And seeking forgiveness from Allah, the Almighty.

0:31 The Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.

0:34 Allah, the Exalted, said regarding her and our father Adam, peace be upon him.

0:37 When they discovered the deception of Iblis against them.

0:41 They said, "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves."

0:44 “They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost!” (7:23)

0:47 "And have mercy upon us, so that we may be..."

0:50 "...among the losers."

0:54 Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

0:57 This is a report from Allah, the Exalted in His praise.

1:00 Regarding what Adam and Eve answered with.

1:04 And their confession of their sin to themselves.

1:08 And their asking Him for His forgiveness and mercy.

1:12 Contrary to the response of the accursed Iblis to Him.

1:15 And the meaning of His saying:

1:17 “They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost!” (7:23)

1:21 Adam and Eve said to their Lord:

1:24 "O our Lord, we have acted against ourselves."

1:27 By wronging it through disobeying You.

1:29 And opposing Your command.

1:31 And by obeying our enemy and Yours.

1:34 In that which we should not have obeyed him in.

1:37 By eating from the tree which You forbade us.

1:40 From eating.

1:42 "And if You do not forgive us," he says:

1:45 "And if You do not conceal our sin for us."

1:48 By covering it up for us.

1:50 And sparing us the disgrace of it through Your punishment.

1:53 Upon us for it, and have mercy on us.

1:55 By Your compassion toward us and Your refraining from taking us to task for it.

1:59 "We will surely be among the losers."

2:02 Meaning, we will surely be among the destroyed.

2:06 And this is what is required of us, O Eve.

2:09 Seeking forgiveness after sin.

2:11 And returning to Allah.

2:13 And not despairing of the mercy of Allah.

2:16 No matter what the sins are.

2:18 Al-Sa'di, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

2:21 They confessed their sin.

2:23 And asked Allah for His forgiveness.

2:25 So He said:

2:27 "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves."

2:30 “They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost!” (7:23)

2:32 "We will surely be among the losers."

2:36 Meaning, we have committed the sin which You forbade us from.

2:39 And we have harmed ourselves by committing the sin.

2:43 And we have performed the cause of loss.

2:45 “They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost!” (7:23)

2:47 By erasing the effect of the sin and its punishment.

2:50 And having mercy on us by accepting our repentance.

2:52 And granting us well-being from such sins.

2:56 So Allah forgave them for that.

2:59 And Abu Zahra, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

3:02 This deep feeling of having wronged themselves.

3:06 Was accompanied by supplication to Allah, the Exalted.

3:09 That He forgive them and have mercy on them.

3:12 And that is why he said:

3:14 “They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost!” (7:23)

3:17 "We will surely be among the losers."

3:20 They seek forgiveness from Allah, the Exalted.

3:23 And they are not content with that alone.

3:25 Rather, they seek along with forgiveness.

3:27 It is not enough that Allah covers them with His mercy.

3:30 For if there were no forgiveness and mercy.

3:33 They would surely be among the losers.

3:36 Those who lost their own souls by wronging them.

3:40 And lost the forgiveness of Allah, the Exalted, and His mercy.

3:43 And that is the manifest loss.

3:48 O Eve.

3:49 Turn to your Lord with the words appropriate for your supplication.

3:54 Reflect upon the supplication of our mother Eve in her saying:

3:58 "Our Lord."

4:00 She did not say "O Allah."

4:02 So what is the difference?

4:04 And when do we say "O Lord"?

4:06 And when do we say "O Allah"?

4:09 Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

4:12 The 'Ilah' (God) is the Worshipped One who deserves to be worshipped.

4:16 And the 'Rabb' (Lord) is the One who nurtures His servant and manages his affairs.

4:21 That is why worship is connected to His name 'Allah'.

4:26 And asking is connected to His name 'Rabb'.

4:30 For worship is the ultimate goal for which the creation was created.

4:34 And divinity is the ultimate end.

4:37 And Lordship entails the creation of the creation and bringing them into existence.

4:41 It is inclusive of the beginning of their state.

4:45 When the worshipper says:

4:47 “Thee (alone) we worship; Thee (alone) we ask for help.” (1:5)

4:51 He begins with the intended goal, which is the ultimate end.

4:54 Over the means, which is the beginning.

4:57 For worship is an intended goal.

5:00 And seeking help is a means toward it.

5:03 That is wisdom, and this is a cause.

5:06 The believer intends the worship of Allah primarily.

5:10 And he knows that this cannot be achieved except by His help.

5:14 So he says:

5:15 “Thee (alone) we worship; Thee (alone) we ask for help.” (1:5)

5:20 And since worship is connected to the name of Allah, the Exalted.

5:24 The prescribed remembrances came with this name.

5:28 Like the words of the Adhan.

5:30 "Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest."

5:34 And like the two testimonies of faith.

5:36 "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah."

5:39 "I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."

5:42 And like the Tashahhud.

5:44 "All compliments are for Allah."

5:47 And like glorifying, praising, declaring the oneness, and magnifying Allah.

5:51 "Glory be to Allah."

5:53 "And praise be to Allah."

5:55 "And there is no god but Allah."

5:57 "And Allah is the Greatest."

5:59 As for asking.

6:01 It is often answered with the name 'Rabb'.

6:04 Like the saying of Adam and Eve:

6:06 "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves."

6:09 “They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost!” (7:23)

6:11 "We will surely be among the losers."

6:14 And the saying of Nuh (Noah):

6:16 “He said: My Lord! Lo! in Thee do I seek refuge (from the sin) that I should ask of Thee that whereof I have no knowledge. Unless Thou forgive me and have mercy on me I shall be among the lost.” (11:47)

6:22 And the saying of Musa (Moses):

6:23 “He said: My Lord! Lo! I have wronged my soul, so forgive me. Then He forgave him. Lo! He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (28:16)

6:27 And the saying of the Khalil (Ibrahim/Abraham):

6:29 “Our Lord! Lo! I have settled some of my posterity in an uncultivable valley near unto Thy holy House, our Lord! that they may establish proper worship; so incline some hearts of men that they may yearn toward them, and provide Thou them with fruits in order that they may be thankful.” (14:37)

6:37 "Our Lord, that they may establish prayer."

6:40 The verse.

6:42 And his saying with Isma'il (Ishmael):

6:44 “And when Abraham and Ishmael were raising the foundations of the House, (Abraham prayed): Our Lord! Accept from us (this duty). Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Hearer, the Knower.” (2:127)

6:50 And likewise the saying of those who said:

6:53 “And of them (also) is he who saith: "Our Lord! Give unto us in the world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and guard us from the doom of Fire."” (2:201)

6:58 "And protect us from the punishment of the Fire."

7:01 And examples of this are many.

7:03 It has been narrated from Malik that he said:

7:07 I dislike for a man to say in his supplication:

7:10 "O my Master, O my Master."

7:13 "O Most Kind, O Most Kind."

7:15 But he should supplicate with what the Prophets supplicated with.

7:19 "Our Lord, our Lord."

7:22 And Allah, the Exalted, said about the people of understanding:

7:25 “Such as remember Allah, standing, sitting, and reclining, and consider the creation of the heavens and the earth, (and say): Our Lord! Thou createdst not this in vain. Glory be to Thee! Preserve us from the doom of Fire.” (3:191)

7:30 “Such as remember Allah, standing, sitting, and reclining, and consider the creation of the heavens and the earth, (and say): Our Lord! Thou createdst not this in vain. Glory be to Thee! Preserve us from the doom of Fire.” (3:191)

7:34 “Such as remember Allah, standing, sitting, and reclining, and consider the creation of the heavens and the earth, (and say): Our Lord! Thou createdst not this in vain. Glory be to Thee! Preserve us from the doom of Fire.” (3:191)

7:39 "So protect us from the punishment of the Fire."

7:42 The verses.

7:43 So if the intention to ask precedes in the heart of the servant.

7:47 It is appropriate to ask Him by His name 'Rabb'.

7:50 And if he asks Him by His name 'Allah'.

7:52 Because it includes the name 'Rabb'.

7:54 It is good.

7:56 But if the intention of worship precedes in his heart.

8:00 Then the name 'Allah' is more appropriate for that.

8:03 If he begins with praise, he mentions the name 'Allah'.

8:06 And if he intends supplication.

8:08 He supplicates with the name 'Rabb'.

8:10 That is why Yunus (Jonah) said:

8:13 “And (mention) Dhu'n-Nun, when he went off in anger and deemed that We had no power over him, but he cried out in the darkness, saying: There is no Allah save Thee. Be Thou Glorified! Lo! I have been a wrong-doer.” (21:87)

8:20 And Adam said:

8:21 "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves."

8:24 “They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost!” (7:23)

8:30 For Yunus, peace be upon him, went off in anger.

8:34 And Allah, the Exalted, said:

8:36 “But wait thou for thy Lord's decree, and be not like him of the fish, who cried out in despair.” (68:48)

8:40 And Allah, the Exalted, said:

8:42 “And the fish swallowed him while he was blameworthy;” (37:142)

8:45 So he did what he was to be blamed for.

8:48 So it was appropriate for his state.

8:50 To begin with praising his Lord.

8:53 And the confession that there is no god but Him.

8:57 For He is the One who deserves to be worshipped to the exclusion of others.

9:00 So one should not follow desires.

9:03 For following desires weakens the worship of Allah alone.

9:07 As for Adam, peace be upon him.

9:10 He confessed his sin first.

9:12 So he said, "We have wronged ourselves."

9:16 And Adam did not have anyone competing with his will.

9:19 Regarding what Allah commanded.

9:21 Of what would compete with divinity.

9:24 Rather, he thought the devil was truthful.

9:26 Who swore to them, "I am to you a sincere advisor."

9:30 So he misled them with deception.

9:33 For the devil deceived them and showed them his advice.

9:36 So in accepting his deception and what he showed of his advice.

9:41 Their state was appropriate for their saying:

9:44 "Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves."

9:47 Because of what happened of negligence.

9:49 Not for the sake of a desire or interest that competes with divinity.

9:54 And they were in need of Him to nurture them with a Lordship.

9:58 That perfects their knowledge and their intention.

10:01 So that they would not be deceived by such things again.

10:04 So they bear witness to their need for Allah, their Lord.

10:08 Who no one else can fulfill their needs but Him.

10:12 So say, O Eve.

10:14 "O my Lord, forgive me."

10:16 "O my Lord, forgive me."

10:18 Perhaps Allah will forgive you, and you will be among the successful.

10:24 We will continue in a coming meeting, if Allah wills.

10:27 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
