We descended on Ashkelon, which is the impregnable stronghold, the fortified fortress, and the lofty mountain, and it contains such strength that there is no hope of achieving the like of it. We conquered it fourteen days after we descended upon it, and flags of monotheism were erected on its walls, its homes were populated with Muslims, and the muezzins chanted the “Allahu Akbar” in all its regions, and the determination was made to head to Jerusalem. If God grants victory and victory, we will turn to the city of Tyre. Peace be upon you.

The long period and heavy expenses have affected us and our soldiers, and the infidels are provided by the sea. The sea provides them with boats larger than its waves and soldiers more abundant than its brackish ones. If the Muslims kill one of them on land, the sea will send a thousand instead of him, and if a line of them is wiped out, they come in twenty columns. Then he said, “The king of the Germans, the kings of the crosses, and the crowds across the sea and the crowds of infidel races have come out to us, and their door has forbidden to them everything that is permissible, and he has extracted from their chests all that is stored and dressed them in robes.” Blacksmith and forced them to plan the jihad until they extricate from our hands the cemetery of Christ and rescue the Church of the Resurrection from us. Then he continued, saying, “This requires us to exhaust the resolve of men and exhaust our treasure troves of money, and obliges the Caliph of the Muslims to preserve his subjects’ qibla and remove their illness from them.” Then he said, “My Lord, I have no control over anyone but myself and my brother, and behold, my brother has joined you next to you, and here they are my children, and you have shown the pages of their faces to your enemy, and it is easy for me to see out of love for you.” Then the Caliph cried out, saying, “O group of Muhammad, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, succeed him in his nation and fulfill his duty to them, and do not delay help from us, for the benefit of relief is only before the aftermath.” Then he concluded his sad message, saying, “And yet, for among us, even if a short period of time remains, we pledge to God that we will remain standing until we are victorious or excused, and that no one will reach the descendants of Ahmed, as long as there is a single person left in the descendants of the Banu Ayyub.”

While we were sitting with the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, a man came to him and said, “O Messenger of God, I have perished.” He said in a narration, “Woe to you, what about you?” He said, “I had intercourse with my wife while I was fasting.” The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said, “Can you find a slave to free?” He said, “No.” He said, “Can you fast for two consecutive months?” He said, “No.” He said, “Can you find food to feed sixty poor people?” He said, “No.” He said, “So the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, stayed.” We explained that. The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, was brought to Iraq in which there were dates, and “Iraq Al-Muktal” in a narration. Al-Zubail said, “Where is the questioner?” He said, “I do.” He said, “Take it and give it in charity.” The man said, “Take it and give it in charity.” Then the man who is taller is poorer than me, O Messenger of God. By God, what is between its two labyrinths, in one narration, is between the two hills of Medina. He means the two harts. A household that is poorer than my household, in a narration that is more needy. Then the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, laughed until his fangs showed in the narration of his molars. Then he said, “Feed him your family,” in one narration, then you are, and in a narration, feed him your children.

So we said, O Messenger of God, as if it were a farewell sermon, so command us. He said: I command you to fear God, hear, and obey, and if a servant conspires against you, then whoever among you lives will be greatly divided. So adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, bite on it with your molars, and beware of newly-invented matters, for every heresy is misguidance.
