Then he went out to Badr with his people under duress, so he was captured and revealed to them that he had converted to Islam. Then he returned to Mecca, so I do not know why he stayed there. ▶ Summary of the Prophet’s biography | Episode (111) | The virtue of the people of Badr
And those who thought about that, and God knows best, that this speech is for a people whom God Almighty has known that they will not depart from their religion, but will die in Islam, and that they may commit some of the sins that others commit, but God Almighty does not leave them insisting on them, but rather guides them to sincere repentance, seeking forgiveness, and good deeds that erase the effect of that, and they will be singled out for this rather than others, because that has been achieved in them and that they are forgiven. This does not prevent the fact that forgiveness occurred due to reasons that were carried out by them, nor does it require that it be hindered. Obligations are trustworthy for forgiveness. If they had been fulfilled without continuing to carry out the commands, I would not have needed after that prayer, fasting, Hajj, zakat, or jihad. This is impossible, and among the obligatory duties is repentance after that. Guaranteeing forgiveness does not necessitate disabling the reasons for forgiveness. Likewise, if the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was given good tidings of Paradise or told him that he would be forgiven, neither he nor other companions understood him to release sins and disobedience to him and forgive him for abandoning duties. Rather, these were more severe. Diligently, cautiously, and fearfully after the good news from them before it, like the ten who were attested to Paradise
