0:13 Abridgment of the Prophetic Biography (Seerah),

0:17 Authored by Sheikh Musa ibn Rashid al-Azimi,

0:23 May Allah preserve him.

0:27 The Overwhelming Victory of the Muslims

0:32 The Muslims crushed their enemy and triumphed over them.

0:36 And the credit, after Allah the Glorious and Majestic,

0:39 Goes back to the steadfastness of the archers on the mountain,

0:42 Whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded to hold their ground upon it.

0:48 Thus, Allah sent down His victory upon the Muslims,

0:51 And fulfilled His promise to them,

0:53 So they decimated them with their swords

0:55 Until they drove them completely out of their camp,

0:58 And it was an unmistakable, decisive defeat.

1:02 Imam Ahmad narrated in his Musnad,

1:05 As did al-Hakim in al-Mustadrak with a good chain of transmission (hasan),

1:08 On the authority of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said:

1:12 "The Prophet (peace be upon him) was never granted victory in any battle as he was granted victory at Uhud."

1:18 He said: "We expressed astonishment at this statement,"

1:21 So Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) said:

1:24 "Between me and whoever denies that is the Book of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic;

1:29 For Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says concerning the day of Uhud: ﴿And Allah had certainly fulfilled His promise to you when you were killing them by His permission﴾."

1:34 “Allah verily made good His promise unto you when ye routed them by His leave, until (the moment) when your courage failed you, and ye disagreed about the order and ye disobeyed, after He had shown you that for which ye long. Some of you desired the world, and some of you desired the Hereafter. Therefore He made you flee from them, that He might try you. Yet now He hath forgiven you. Allah is a Lord of Kindness to believers.” (3:152)

1:39 Ibn Abbas said: "And 'al-hiss' means slaughter."

1:43 And Imam al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih,

1:46 On the authority of A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:

1:50 "When it was the day of Uhud,

1:52 The polytheists were routed with a clear defeat."

1:55 And al-Hakim and Ibn Ishaq narrated in the Seerah with a good chain of transmission,

2:00 On the authority of al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

2:04 "By Allah, I saw myself looking at the anklets of Hind bint Utbah and her companions,

2:10 Tucking up their garments and fleeing in haste."

2:13 And "al-khadam" is the plural of "khadamah",

2:15 Which refers to an anklet;

2:17 It is a type of ornament

2:20 That a woman wears on her leg.

2:23 And Imam al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih,

2:26 On the authority of al-Bara' ibn Azib (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said:

2:30 "They defeated them,

2:31 And by Allah, I saw the women sprinting,"

2:35 Meaning, fleeing in great haste,

2:37 "With their anklets and shins exposed,

2:40 Tucking up their clothes."

2:43 And "aswaq" is the plural of "saq" (shin or leg),

2:46 And the reason they tucked up their garments

2:48 Was to enable them to flee more swiftly.

2:52 The Archers Disobey the Command of the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him)

3:01 In the early part of the day, fortune was on the side of the Muslims against the disbelievers,

3:05 Who broke into a full retreat,

3:07 Turning their backs in flight,

3:09 Until they reached their women.

3:12 When the archers saw their defeat,

3:15 They abandoned their post which the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had ordered them to guard,

3:21 Saying: "O our people, the spoils! The spoils!"

3:25 Their commander, Abdullah ibn Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him), reminded them

3:30 Of the solemn charge given to them by the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),

3:34 But they paid no heed to him,

3:36 Assuming that the polytheists would never return,

3:40 And that they would never rise again after that.

3:44 So they rushed off in pursuit of the spoils of war,

3:46 Leaving the mountain pass exposed.

3:48 Imam al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih,

3:51 On the authority of al-Bara' ibn Azib (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said:

3:55 "The companions of Ibn Jubayr said:

3:58 'The spoils! O people, the spoils!

4:01 Your companions have prevailed,

4:03 So what are you waiting for?'

4:05 Whereupon Abdullah ibn Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

4:08 'Have you forgotten what the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to you?'

4:13 They said: 'By Allah, we will surely join the people

4:17 And take our share of the spoils!'"

4:20 And Imam Ahmad and al-Hakim narrated with a good chain of transmission,

4:24 On the authority of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said:

4:27 "When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) took the spoils,

4:32 And the Muslims overwhelmed the camp of the polytheists,

4:34 The archers all abandoned their posts,

4:37 Entering the camp to plunder it."

4:40 Thus, the majority of the fifty archers left their positions

4:43 Which the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had ordered them to protect,

4:49 Leaving the rear of the Muslims exposed to the enemy.

4:52 Only their commander, Abdullah ibn Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him), stood firm

4:56 Along with a small group of fewer than ten men at their post.

5:00 Allah the Exalted said concerning this: ﴿Among you are some who desire this world, and among you are some who desire the Hereafter﴾.

5:23 The Encirclement by Khalid ibn al-Walid

5:26 And the Disarray of the Muslims

5:29 When the archers abandoned the pass that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had entrusted them to defend,

5:36 The cavalry of the polytheists launched an attack,

5:38 Led by Khalid ibn al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him),

5:42 And found the mountain pass abandoned,

5:44 Completely devoid of archers.

5:46 So they swept through it and secured it until their rearguard arrived,

5:50 Encompassing the Muslims from behind.

5:53 Allah, Glorified be He, honored a number of them with martyrdom,

5:57 Chief among them being Abdullah ibn Jubayr (may Allah be pleased with him).

6:01 Then the cavalry outflanked the Muslims from behind

6:04 And their horsemen let out a shout,

6:06 By which the routed polytheists quickly realized that the tide had turned,

6:11 So they turned back around against the Muslims.

6:14 Imam Ahmad and al-Hakim narrated with a good chain of transmission,

6:17 On the authority of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said:

6:21 "When the Prophet (peace be upon him) took the spoils,

6:25 And the Muslims overwhelmed the camp of the polytheists,

6:27 The archers all rushed down,

6:30 Entering the camp to take spoils.

6:32 Meanwhile, the ranks of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) collided,

6:38 Becoming like this" —

6:39 And he interlaced his fingers —

6:42 "And they fell into confusion.

6:43 For when the archers abandoned that breach where they were stationed" —

6:48 Meaning, when they left that spot —

6:50 "The cavalry entered from that position against the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him),

6:56 So they began striking one another in utter confusion,

7:00 And many of the Muslims were killed."

7:03 And Ibn Ishaq narrated in the Seerah with a good chain of transmission,

7:07 On the authority of al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

7:11 "The archers turned toward the camp when we drove the enemy away from it,

7:15 Leaving our rear exposed to the cavalry,

7:17 So we were attacked from behind.

7:20 Then a crier cried out:

7:21 'Behold, Muhammad has been killed!'

7:24 Whereupon we fell back" —

7:26 Meaning, we turned back —

7:27 "And the enemy turned upon us."

7:29 And al-Hakim narrated in al-Mustadrak with a good chain of transmission,

7:33 On the authority of al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

7:37 "By Allah, I saw myself looking at the anklets of Hind bint Utbah and her female companions,

7:43 Tucking up their garments and fleeing in haste,

7:45 With nothing preventing their capture, great or small.

7:49 Then the archers turned toward the camp when we drove the enemy away from it,

7:53 Seeking the plunder,

7:55 Leaving our rear exposed to the cavalry.

7:57 So we were attacked from our rear,

8:00 And a crier shouted:

8:01 'Behold, Muhammad has been killed!'

8:04 So we fell back and the enemy turned upon us,

8:07 After we had struck down their standard-bearers,

8:09 Such that none of the enemy dared approach their standard."

8:19 And whatever longing the people of the world hold for one another,

8:24 The longing for you transcends all bounds.

8:31 May Allah send blessings upon you whenever the call to prayer is raised,

8:38 And as long as lips utter praise of the Everlasting.
