0:41 “And We know well that they say: Only a man teacheth him. The speech of him at whom they falsely hint is outlandish, and this is clear Arabic speech.” (16:103)

1:25 Mockery, ridicule, and denial.

1:29 They accused the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, of madness.

1:33 They said: "O you to whom the Reminder has been sent down,"

1:38 "You are indeed mad."

1:40 Ibn Ishaq said:

1:42 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

1:45 whenever he recited the Qur'an to them,

1:48 and called them to Allah the Exalted,

1:50 they would mock him, saying:

1:52 “And they say: Our hearts are protected from that unto which thou (O Muhammad) callest us, and in our ears there is a deafness, and between us and thee there is a veil. Act, then. Lo! we also shall be acting.” (41:5)

1:56 "We are indifferent to that to which you invite us."

2:03 "And in our ears is deafness."

2:06 “And they say: Our hearts are protected from that unto which thou (O Muhammad) callest us, and in our ears there is a deafness, and between us and thee there is a veil. Act, then. Lo! we also shall be acting.” (41:5)

2:10 "So act, and we are acting."

2:16 Allah the Glorified said:

2:18 “And when those who disbelieve behold thee, they but choose thee out for mockery, (saying): Is this he who maketh mention of your gods? And they would deny all mention of the Beneficent.” (21:36)

2:21 “And when they see thee (O Muhammad) they treat thee only as a jest (saying): Is this he whom Allah sendeth as a messenger?” (25:41)

2:25 “And when those who disbelieve behold thee, they but choose thee out for mockery, (saying): Is this he who maketh mention of your gods? And they would deny all mention of the Beneficent.” (21:36)

2:33 And Allah the Exalted said:

2:44 “He would have led us far away from our gods if we had not been staunch to them. They will know, when they behold the doom, who is more astray as to the road.” (25:42)

2:58 Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir said:

3:00 The Exalted says to His Prophet, may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him:

3:04 “And when those who disbelieve behold thee, they but choose thee out for mockery, (saying): Is this he who maketh mention of your gods? And they would deny all mention of the Beneficent.” (21:36)

3:07 Meaning the disbelievers of the Quraysh,

3:09 such as Abu Jahl and his likes:

3:11 "They take you only for mockery,"

3:14 meaning they ridicule you and belittle you.

3:17 They say: "Is this the one who mentions your gods?"

3:21 Meaning: Is this the one who insults your gods,

3:25 and mocks your intellects?

3:27 The Exalted said: "While they, at the mention of the Most Merciful, are disbelievers."

3:32 Meaning: They are disbelievers in Allah.

3:34 Despite this, they mock the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

3:39 just as the Exalted said in another verse:

3:43 “And when they see thee (O Muhammad) they treat thee only as a jest (saying): Is this he whom Allah sendeth as a messenger?” (25:41)

4:06 And the Exalted said:

4:16 "by that which they used to ridicule."

4:20 Imam al-Qurtubi said:

4:22 The Exalted said, comforting His Prophet, peace be upon him, and consoling him:

4:28 "And messengers were already mocked before you,"

4:32 "so they were encompassed,"

4:33 meaning the punishment descended upon their nations, by which they were destroyed.

4:38 Third:

4:39 Opposing the Qur'an with the legends of the ancients,

4:42 to distract people from it.

4:45 Al-Nadr ibn al-Harith took charge of this,

4:48 and he was one of the devils of the Quraysh.

4:51 He had traveled to al-Hirah and learned there the hadiths of the Persian kings.

4:56 Ibn Hisham said:

4:58 This is what he said, according to what has reached me.

5:01 “Who is guilty of more wrong than he who forgeth a lie against Allah, or saith: I am inspired, when he is not inspired in aught; and who saith: I will reveal the like of that which Allah hath revealed? If thou couldst see, when the wrong-doers reach the pangs of death and the angels stretch their hands out (saying): Deliver up your souls. This day ye are awarded doom of degradation for that ye spake concerning Allah other than the truth, and used to scorn His portents.” (6:93)

5:05 And Ibn Ishaq said:

5:07 Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, used to say,

5:11 according to what has reached me:

5:13 Eight verses of the Qur'an were revealed concerning him.
