0:25 The Arrival of the Muslims at Khaybar and Their Attack

0:32 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, arrived at Khaybar at night with his blessed army.

0:40 It was his custom that whenever he approached a hostile people by night, he would not attack them until morning came.

0:46 When dawn broke, he prayed the dawn prayer in the early morning twilight,

0:50 Then he and his Companions mounted their riding beasts and advanced toward Khaybar.

0:54 As the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, came within view of Khaybar, he made a supplication.

1:06 On the authority of Suhayb, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

1:18 "O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and whatever they overshadow,

1:22 Lord of the seven earths and whatever they bear,

1:26 Lord of the winds and whatever they disperse,

1:29 And Lord of the devils and whomever they lead astray:

1:32 We ask You for the good of this town and the good of its people,

1:37 And we seek refuge in You from its evil, the evil of its people, and the evil within it."

1:42 The two Shaykhs (al-Bukhari and Muslim) recorded in their Sahihs

1:45 On the authority of Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

1:49 The Prophet, peace be upon him, set out for Khaybar

1:53 And arrived there by night.

1:55 Whenever he reached a hostile people by night, he would not attack them until morning.

2:01 When morning broke, the Jews came out with their shovels and baskets,

2:07 And when they caught sight of him, they shouted, "Muhammad and the Khamis!"

2:11 Meaning: "Muhammad and the army!"

2:14 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

2:17 "Allah is the greatest!

2:19 Ruined is Khaybar!

2:21 Truly, when we descend upon the open square of a hostile people,

2:24 Evil is the morning of those who were warned."

2:27 In another wording in the two Sahihs,

2:30 Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

2:32 The Prophet, peace be upon him, marched against Khaybar,

2:36 And we prayed the dawn prayer near it in the early morning twilight.

2:40 The Prophet of Allah, peace be upon him, mounted his beast,

2:44 Abu Talhah mounted his,

2:46 And I was riding behind Abu Talhah.

2:49 When he entered the settlement, he said:

2:51 "Allah is the greatest!

2:53 Ruined is Khaybar!

2:55 Truly, when we descend upon the open square of a hostile people,

2:58 Evil is the morning of those who were warned."

3:01 Imam al-Suhayli said:

3:03 His words, peace be upon him, upon seeing them:

3:07 "Allah is the greatest!

3:09 Ruined is Khaybar!"

3:11 Contain an omen of good optimism,

3:13 For he saw the shovels and baskets,

3:16 Which are tools of demolition and excavation;

3:19 Moreover, the word for shovel (mishah) derives from "peeling the earth,"

3:22 That is, scraping its surface bare.

3:24 This pointed to the imminent ruin of the settlement he was overlooking.

3:32 The Fortresses of Khaybar

3:34 Khaybar consisted of fortified strongholds,

3:38 And its fortresses were divided into two main sectors:

3:41 First, the fortresses of al-Natat and al-Shiqq,

3:45 Which comprised five fortresses:

3:47 The fortress of Na'im,

3:49 The fortress of al-Sa'b ibn Mu'adh,

3:51 The fortress of Qal'at al-Zubayr,

3:53 The fortress of Ubayy,

3:55 And the fortress of al-Nizar.

3:57 Second, the fortresses of al-Katibah,

4:00 Which comprised three fortresses:

4:03 The fortress of al-Qamus,

4:05 The fortress of al-Watih,

4:07 And the fortress of al-Salalim.

4:12 The Beginning of the Fighting

4:14 And the Conquest of the Fortress of Na'im

4:17 When the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, arrived at Khaybar,

4:22 He laid siege to it fortress by fortress.

4:25 The very first fortress the Muslims conquered

4:28 Was the fortress of Na'im.

4:30 For when the two sides drew up their battle lines,

4:32 Marhab stepped forth

4:34 Demanding a duel,

4:36 And 'Amir ibn al-Akwa', may Allah be pleased with him, stepped forward to face him.

4:40 The two Shaykhs recorded in their Sahihs—

4:43 And this wording is from Muslim's Sahih—

4:46 From Salamah ibn al-Akwa', may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

4:48 "When we arrived at Khaybar,

4:50 Their leader Marhab came forward,

4:52 Brandishing his sword

4:54 And reciting:

4:56 'Khaybar well knows that I am Marhab,

4:58 Fully armed, a seasoned warrior,

5:01 Whenever wars blaze forth fiercely.'

5:04 He said:

5:06 Then my uncle 'Amir stepped forth to confront him,

5:08 Reciting:

5:10 'Khaybar well knows that I am 'Amir,

5:12 Fully armed,

5:14 A daring hero.'

5:16 The two exchanged blows,

5:18 And Marhab's sword struck

5:20 'Amir's shield.

5:22 'Amir tried to strike him from below,

5:24 Meaning to hit him from underneath,

5:26 But his own sword rebounded against him

5:28 And severed the main artery in his forearm,

5:30 Which caused his death."

5:32 Salamah said:

5:34 "I went out and found a group

5:36 Of the Prophet's Companions, peace be upon him,

5:39 Saying:

5:41 ''Amir's deeds have come to naught;

5:43 He killed himself!'

5:45 So I came to the Prophet, peace be upon him,

5:47 Weeping,

5:49 And said, 'O Messenger of Allah!

5:51 They say 'Amir's deeds have come to naught.'

5:53 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, asked:

5:57 'Who said that?'

5:59 I replied, 'Some people among your Companions.'

6:02 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:

6:06 'Whoever said that has lied;

6:08 Rather, he shall have his reward doubled!'

6:12 In another wording in the two Sahihs:

6:14 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:

6:18 'Whoever said that has lied;

6:20 Indeed, he will have two rewards'—

6:22 And he joined two of his fingers together—

6:24 'He was truly a striver, a mujahid;

6:27 Rare is an Arab who walked the earth like him!'"

6:30 The Abridged Prophetic Biography (Seerah):

6:35 If worldly longings between mortals stretch long,

6:42 The longing for you transcends all earthly bounds.

6:49 May Allah shower blessings upon you as long as morning dew rises,

6:55 And as long as lips move with lasting praise.
