0:32 It took place on a Wednesday,

0:35 With seven nights remaining in Dhu al-Qi'dah,

0:37 In the fifth year of the Hijrah.

0:43 Banu Qurayzah's breach of the covenant with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

0:48 And their conspiracy with the confederates to wage war against the Muslims.

0:52 Thereupon, Gabriel, peace be upon him, came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)

0:57 And commanded him to fight the Jews of Banu Qurayzah.

1:01 Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir said:

1:03 "A section on the Expedition of Banu Qurayzah,

1:07 And the severe punishment Allah Almighty unleashed upon them,

1:11 Along with the painful torment Allah has prepared for them in the Hereafter.

1:15 That was because of their disbelief,

1:17 Their breach of the covenants that existed between them and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),

1:24 And their aiding of the confederates against him.

1:27 Yet that availed them nothing,

1:30 And they incurred the wrath of Allah and His Messenger,

1:33 Ending in a losing bargain in this world and the Hereafter."

1:40 On the authority of 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, who said:

1:43 When the Prophet (peace be upon him) returned from the Trench,

1:48 Laid down his arms, and bathed,

1:50 Gabriel, peace be upon him, came to him and said:

1:54 "Have you laid down your arms? By Allah, we have not laid them down.

1:58 Go out against them!"

2:00 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asked:

2:03 "To where?"

2:05 He replied: "Here,"

2:07 Pointing toward Qurayzah.

2:09 So the Prophet (peace be upon him) set out against them.

2:18 On the authority of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said:

2:21 When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) finished with the confederates,

2:27 He entered the washroom to perform a ritual bath.

2:30 Then Gabriel, peace be upon him, came and said:

2:33 "Have you already laid down your arms?

2:35 We have not laid down our weapons yet.

2:38 March against Banu Qurayzah!"

2:41 That is, advance against Banu Qurayzah.

2:44 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:

2:46 "It is as if I am still looking at Gabriel (peace be upon him) through the chinks of the door,

2:51 With dust clinging to his head wrap."

2:58 On the authority of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) who said:

3:01 While the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was with her,

3:06 A man greeted us with peace while we were inside the house.

3:10 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood up in alarm,

3:14 So I followed after him,

3:16 And behold, he was in the form of Dihyah al-Kalbi.

3:18 He (peace be upon him) said:

3:20 "This is Gabriel,

3:21 Ordering me to march against Banu Qurayzah."

3:27 The Departure of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to Banu Qurayzah.

3:34 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) set out with three thousand of his Companions,

3:40 Heading toward Banu Qurayzah.

3:43 He handed the banner to 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him,

3:48 And dispatched Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) to call out among the people:

3:52 "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

3:56 Commands you not to pray 'Asr except at Banu Qurayzah."

4:04 On the authority of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) who said:

4:07 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to his Companions:

4:12 "I resolve upon you not to pray the 'Asr prayer

4:16 Until you reach Banu Qurayzah."

4:22 On the authority of Ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with both of them, who said:

4:25 The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to us when he returned from the confederates:

4:31 "None of you should pray 'Asr except at Banu Qurayzah."

4:35 The time for 'Asr overtook some of them on the way,

4:38 So some said: "We will not pray until we reach it,"

4:43 While others said: "Rather, we will pray,

4:46 For he did not intend that for us."

4:48 That was mentioned to the Prophet (peace be upon him),

4:51 And he did not rebuke either of the two groups.

4:55 In the narration of al-Hakim in his Mustadrak with a good chain of transmission,

4:59 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:

5:02 "The sun set before they reached them.

5:05 A group of the Muslims said:

5:09 'The Prophet (peace be upon him) did not intend for us to abandon the prayer,'

5:13 So they prayed.

5:15 Another group said:

5:17 'We abide strictly by the firm resolve of the Prophet (peace be upon him),

5:21 And no sin falls upon us.'

5:23 Thus, one group prayed out of faith and seeking reward,

5:27 And the other group withheld out of faith and seeking reward,

5:31 And the Prophet (peace be upon him) blamed neither of the two parties."

5:36 Imam Ibn Hazm said:

5:39 "And Allah Almighty knows that had we been there,

5:42 We would not have prayed 'Asr on that day except at Banu Qurayzah,

5:47 Even if it were after several days."

5:49 Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir said:

5:52 "It is evident that those who prayed 'Asr at its proper time

5:55 Were closer to hitting upon the truth in actual fact,

5:59 Even though the others were also excused.

6:03 The justification here for excusing their delay of the prayer

6:06 Was for the sake of jihad and hastening to besiege the covenant-breakers of that accursed band."

6:19 Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent Gabriel, peace be upon him, to Banu Qurayzah

6:24 To shake them and cast terror into their hearts.

6:32 On the authority of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) who said:

6:35 The Prophet (peace be upon him) went forth

6:39 And passed by gatherings between him and Qurayzah,

6:42 Asking: "Has anyone passed by you?"

6:47 They replied: "Dihyah al-Kalbi passed by us on a white mule,

6:51 Beneath him a saddle blanket of fine brocade."

6:54 The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

6:57 "That was not Dihyah,

6:59 But Gabriel, peace be upon him,

7:02 Sent to Banu Qurayzah

7:04 To shake them and cast terror into their hearts."

7:11 On the authority of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

7:14 "It is as if I am still looking at the dust rising in the alley of Banu Ghanm

7:19 From the procession of Gabriel

7:21 When the Messenger of Allah marched to Banu Qurayzah."

7:25 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) arrived,

7:28 Under the protection and care of Allah, at the dwellings of Banu Qurayzah.

7:33 When they saw him, they fortified themselves in their strongholds,

7:36 Whereupon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) called out to them,

7:40 Saying:

7:41 "O brothers of apes and swine!"

7:45 He then imposed a siege upon them,

7:48 And the siege lasted for twenty-five nights,

7:51 Until conditions became dire for them

7:53 And Allah cast terror into their hearts.

7:56 So they submitted and agreed to abide by the judgment of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him,

8:01 As they had been his confederates.

8:03 In the narration of Ibn Ishaq,

8:06 They surrendered to the judgment of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

8:10 Whereupon the Aws leaped up

8:12 And said: "O Messenger of Allah,

8:15 They are our confederates, not those of the Khazraj,

8:18 And you have previously done regarding the confederates of our brethren what you well know,"

8:23 Referring to the Jews of Banu Qaynuqa',

8:25 The allies of the Khazraj,

8:27 When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)

8:30 Left the judgment concerning them in the hands of 'Abdullah ibn Ubayy ibn Salul,

8:34 And that was during the Expedition of Banu Qaynuqa'.

8:38 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

8:42 "Would you be pleased, O gathering of the Aws,

8:44 If a man from among you were to judge concerning them?"

8:48 They said: "Yes!"

8:49 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

8:53 "Then that shall be Sa'd ibn Mu'adh."

9:01 On the authority of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) who said:

9:05 When their siege intensified and the affliction became severe,

9:08 It was said to them:

9:09 "Surrender to the judgment of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him."

9:14 So they consulted Abu Lubabah ibn 'Abd al-Mundhir,

9:18 Who gestured to his throat that it would mean slaughter.

9:21 They then said: "We will surrender to the judgment of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh."

9:25 Thereupon the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

9:29 "Surrender to the judgment of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh."
