0:34 "On the following day, Sunday,

0:37 sixteen nights having passed of Shawwal,

0:40 the caller of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, proclaimed

0:44 among the people to pursue the enemy,

0:47 announcing: 'None shall march out with us except those who were present at Uhud!'

0:51 So no one went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)

0:55 except those who had witnessed Uhud,

0:58 with the sole exception of Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him.

1:01 For his father had left him behind to look after his sisters,

1:04 and his father was martyred on the day of Uhud, may Allah be pleased with them both.

1:09 So he asked permission from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)

1:12 to march out to Hamra' al-Asad,

1:15 and he granted him permission."

1:17 Imam Muslim recorded in his Sahih

1:20 on the authority of Jabir ibn 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said:

1:24 "I did not participate in Badr or Uhud;

1:27 my father prevented me.

1:29 But when 'Abdullah was killed on the day of Uhud—

1:32 meaning his father, 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn Haram—

1:36 I never stayed behind from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)

1:40 in any expedition at all."

1:45 The Cause of this Expedition:

1:49 News reached the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)

1:52 that Abu Sufyan intended to return to Medina

1:56 to eradicate the remaining Muslims.

1:59 Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered

2:02 his Companions to pursue the disbelievers.

2:05 Indeed, Imam al-Nasa'i recorded in al-Sunan al-Kubra

2:09 with an authentic chain of narration

2:11 from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

2:14 "When the polytheists departed from Uhud

2:17 and reached al-Rawha',

2:19 they said: 'You neither killed Muhammad,

2:22 nor carried off the maiden captives on your mounts!

2:25 Evil indeed is what you have done!

2:27 Turn back!'

2:29 When that reached the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),

2:33 he called the people to march,

2:35 and they readily mobilized until they reached Hamra' al-Asad."

4:20 where he encamped and remained for three nights.

4:25 When the polytheists learned of this,

4:28 they were seized with fear and retreated to Mecca.

4:31 On Wednesday, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) returned to Medina,

4:38 with the Muslims having restored much of their prestige and deterrence

4:42 after it had almost been shaken because of the Battle of Uhud.

4:53 And Allah, Glorified be He, revealed regarding this expedition His words:

5:42 Imam al-Qurtubi said:

5:45 "Allah Almighty informed them that a tremendous reward was attained by them through this return march (qaflah).

5:51 The word 'qaflah' denotes an instance of returning from an expedition;

5:54 meaning that the warrior's reward in departing back to his family after his raid

5:59 is like his reward in setting forth to jihad,

6:02 for in his return is rest for the soul,

6:06 a renewal of strength for future campaigns,

6:09 and protection for his family by returning to them."

6:23 the longing for you exceeds all bounds.

6:30 May Allah shower blessings upon you as long as the call to prayer is raised
