0:48 On the authority of al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:

1:13 But he detected an unpleasant smell in it and so disliked it,

1:16 Using it instead to wash the blood from his face,

1:19 While saying (peace be upon him):

1:22 "Intense is the wrath of Allah upon whoever caused the face of the Messenger of Allah to bleed."

1:29 And the two Sheikhs [al-Bukhari and Muslim] recorded in their *Sahih*s

1:33 On the authority of Sahl ibn Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him),

1:36 That he was asked about the wound of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on the day of Uhud,

1:42 Whereupon he (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

1:44 "The face of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was wounded,

1:48 His lower right incisor was broken,

1:50 And the helmet was crushed upon his head.

1:53 Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, was washing away the blood,

2:00 While Ali ibn Abi Talib was pouring water over it using a shield—

2:05 Meaning a buckler.

2:07 But when Fatimah saw that the water only increased the bleeding,

2:12 She took a piece of matting,

2:14 Burned it until it turned to ashes,

2:17 And then applied it to the wound,

2:20 Whereupon the blood ceased flowing."

2:22 The Muslims Inspecting and Burying Their Martyrs.

2:28 Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and his Companions went down to inspect their slain,

2:35 And the Messenger of Allah commanded that the martyrs of Uhud be gathered

2:41 And buried where they fell,

2:43 Not to be carried back to Medina to be buried there.

2:47 Abu Dawud recorded in his *Sunan* with an authentic chain of transmission

2:52 On the authority of Jabir ibn Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

2:56 "We had carried our slain on the day of Uhud to bury them [in Medina],

3:00 When the caller of the Prophet (peace be upon him) came and said:

3:05 'The Messenger of Allah commands you to bury the slain where they fell.'

3:12 So we brought them back."

3:14 In the narration of Imam al-Tirmidhi in his *Jami'* with an authentic chain,

3:19 Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

3:22 "On the day of Uhud, my paternal aunt brought my father to bury him in our family graveyard,

3:29 But the caller of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) announced:

3:34 'Return the slain to their resting places!'"

3:37 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) also commanded

3:41 That two or three men be buried together in a single grave,

3:45 The reason being

3:47 That they were exhausted and unable to dig individual graves

3:50 Because of the wounds they had suffered.

3:53 Abu Dawud recorded in his *Sunan*,

3:56 And al-Tirmidhi in his *Jami'* with an authentic chain—

4:00 The wording being that of Abu Dawud—

4:02 On the authority of Hisham ibn Amir (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

4:06 "The Ansar came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on the day of Uhud and said:

4:13 'We have suffered wounds and great exhaustion,

4:15 So what do you instruct us to do?'

4:17 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

4:21 'Dig, make the graves spacious,

4:23 And place two or three in a single grave.'

4:26 It was asked, 'Which of them should be placed first?'

4:29 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied:

4:33 'The one who knew the most Qur'an.'

4:35 Hisham said:

4:37 'My father, Amir, was slain that day and placed alongside two others,'

4:41 Or he said, 'one other.'"

4:43 And in the wording of Imam al-Tirmidhi,

4:45 Hisham said:

4:47 "My father died,

4:49 And he was placed first ahead of two other men."

4:51 Imam al-Bukhari recorded in his *Sahih*

4:55 On the authority of Jabir ibn Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

4:59 "The Prophet (peace be upon him) would shroud two men from among the slain of Uhud in a single garment,

5:06 Then he would ask:

5:08 'Which of them had acquired more of the Qur'an?'

5:11 Whenever one of them was pointed out to him,

5:14 He would place him first into the niche of the grave (lahd)."

5:16 Imam Ibn al-Qayyim said:

5:18 "The Sunnah regarding martyrs

5:20 Is that they are buried where they fell,

5:23 And are not transported to any other place."

5:35 On the authority of Jabir ibn Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

5:39 "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

5:43 'I am a witness over these [martyrs].'"

5:46 Imam Ahmad recorded in his *Musnad* with a good chain of transmission

5:50 On the authority of Jabir ibn Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

5:54 "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say,

5:58 Whenever the companions of Uhud were mentioned:

6:01 'By Allah, I wish I had been left behind with the companions at the foot of the mountain'—

6:06 Meaning the base of the mountain."

6:09 Imam Ahmad recorded in his *Musnad*,

6:11 As well as Abu Dawud and al-Hakim, with a good chain of transmission,

6:15 On the authority of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

6:19 "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

6:23 'When your brothers were slain at Uhud,

6:26 Allah placed their souls inside green birds

6:30 That drink from the rivers of Paradise,

6:32 Eat from its fruits,

6:34 And shelter in golden lamps suspended in the shade of the Throne.

6:40 When they experienced the delight of their food, drink, and resting places,

6:45 They said: Who will convey to our brothers on our behalf

6:49 That we are alive in Paradise, being sustained,

6:52 So that they do not renounce jihad

6:55 Nor falter in the face of battle?

6:58 Thereupon Allah Almighty said:

7:00 I shall convey it to them on your behalf.'

7:02 He said: 'So Allah, Mighty and Majestic is He, revealed:'"

7:06 “Think not of those, who are slain in the way of Allah, as dead. Nay, they are living. With their Lord they have provision.” (3:169)

7:14 “Think not of those, who are slain in the way of Allah, as dead. Nay, they are living. With their Lord they have provision.” (3:169)

7:21 Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir said:

7:23 "As for the souls of the martyrs,

7:26 They reside inside the crops of green birds,

7:29 Being like brilliant stars in comparison to the souls of the general believers,

7:34 Which fly freely by themselves."

7:37 We ask Allah, the Generous, the Bestower of all grace,

7:40 To keep us firm upon faith.

7:48 Though long may be the longing people feel for one another,

7:55 The yearning for you exceeds all bounds and measures.

8:01 May Allah send blessings upon you as long as the call to prayer is raised,

8:07 And lips murmur praise for the Eternal One.
