0:28 The Vastness of the Spoils of Khaybar

0:33 The Muslims acquired immense spoils of war from Khaybar.

0:37 Indeed, Imam al-Bukhari narrated in his *Sahih*

0:40 On the authority of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said:

0:44 "We never ate our fill until we conquered Khaybar."

0:48 And Imam al-Bukhari narrated in his *Sahih*

0:51 On the authority of 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said:

0:54 "When Khaybar was conquered,

0:56 We said, 'Now we shall eat our fill of dates!'"

1:00 Al-Hafiz said in *Fath al-Bari*:

1:02 "That is, because of the vast abundance of date-palm trees it possessed.

1:05 And in it is an indication that prior to its conquest,

1:09 They endured severe hardship and scarcity in their livelihood."

1:11 Imam al-Bukhari also narrated in his *Sahih*

1:14 On the authority of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said:

1:18 "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) allotted on the day of Khaybar

1:22 Two shares for the horse,

1:24 And one share for the foot soldier."

1:26 Nafi' explained this, saying:

1:29 "If a man had a horse with him,

1:32 He received three shares;

1:34 But if he did not have a horse,

1:36 He received one share."

1:38 Imam at-Tirmidhi said:

1:41 "And the practice according to the majority of the scholars—

1:44 Among the Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and others—is based upon this.

1:48 It is the position of Sufyan ath-Thawri, al-Awza'i,

1:52 Malik ibn Anas,

1:54 Ibn al-Mubarak, ash-Shafi'i,

1:56 Ahmad, and Ishaq.

1:58 They said:

2:00 'A horseman receives three shares:

2:02 One share for himself,

2:03 And two shares for his horse;

2:05 While the foot soldier receives one share.'"

2:07 The Emigrants Returning the Usufruct Gifts to the Ansar

2:13 When Allah, Exalted is His Majesty, enriched the Muslims through the conquest of Khaybar,

2:19 The Emigrants returned to the Ansar the usufruct gifts (*mana'ih*) that had been granted to them

2:24 When they had first arrived among them in Medina.

2:27 Indeed, the two Shaykhs narrated in their *Sahih*s

2:30 On the authority of Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:

2:34 "When the Emigrants arrived in Medina from Mecca,

2:38 They had nothing whatsoever in their hands,

2:42 While the Ansar were landowners and property holders.

2:46 So the Ansar shared with them on condition that they give them the produce of their properties each year,

2:51 Sparing them the labor and maintenance."

2:54 Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

2:57 "When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)

3:00 Finished fighting the people of Khaybar

3:03 And returned to Medina,

3:05 The Emigrants returned to the Ansar their grants of produce."

3:10 Imam an-Nawawi said:

3:13 "This is proof that these were grants of usufruct fruit—

3:18 That is, permitting the consumption of the fruit,

3:20 Not transferring the actual ownership of the date palms themselves.

3:23 For had it been a gift transferring ownership of the trees,

3:26 They could not have been reclaimed,

3:28 Since revoking a gift after possession has taken place is not permissible.

3:33 Rather, it was merely permitted use, as we mentioned,

3:36 And such permission may be revoked whenever one pleases.

3:40 Yet despite this, they were never reclaimed

3:43 Until the circumstances of the Emigrants eased with the conquest of Khaybar,

3:47 And they became completely self-sufficient;

3:49 So they returned them to the Ansar, who accepted them back."

4:02 There arrived before the Prophet (peace be upon him)

4:04 In Khaybar, after its conquest,

4:06 His cousin Ja'far ibn Abi Talib

4:09 And his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) from Abyssinia.

4:12 And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) rejoiced over him

4:16 With immense joy.

4:18 Al-Hakim narrated in *al-Mustadrak* with a weak chain of transmission—

4:22 Yet it has corroborating reports that strengthen it—

4:25 On the authority of Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:

4:28 "When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) returned

4:33 From Khaybar, Ja'far arrived from Abyssinia.

4:36 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) met him,

4:40 Kissed his forehead,

4:42 And then said: 'By Allah, I do not know which makes me happier:

4:47 The conquest of Khaybar, or the arrival of Ja'far!'"

4:51 Along with the Abyssinian emigrants came the Ash'aris,

4:55 Among whom was Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him).

4:59 Indeed, Imam Ahmad narrated in his *Musnad* with an authentic chain

5:03 On the authority of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:

5:07 "I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)

5:11 Along with a group from my people,

5:13 Three days after he conquered Khaybar,

5:16 And he allotted a share for us;

5:18 Nor did he assign a share to anyone who had not witnessed the conquest, except for us."

5:22 And the two Shaykhs narrated in their *Sahih*s

5:25 On the authority of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:

5:28 "News of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) departure reached us

5:32 While we were in Yemen.

5:34 So my two brothers and I set out migrating to him,

5:38 I being the youngest of them;

5:40 One of them was Abu Burdah,

5:42 And the other was Abu Ruhm—

5:44 Either among a few,

5:47 Or he said among fifty-three,

5:51 Or fifty-two men of my people.

5:54 We boarded a ship,

5:57 But our ship carried us to the Negus in Abyssinia,

6:01 Where we coincided with Ja'far ibn Abi Talib and his companions in his presence.

6:05 Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

6:08 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)

6:11 Dispatched us here

6:13 And commanded us to stay,

6:15 So remain with us.'

6:17 Thus we stayed with him until we all arrived together,

6:21 Reaching the Prophet (peace be upon him)

6:25 Just as he conquered Khaybar.

6:27 So he allotted shares for us"—

6:29 Or he said: "He gave us from it;

6:32 And he did not allot anything from it to anyone who had been absent from the conquest of Khaybar,

6:37 Except to those who had witnessed it with him,

6:39 Save for the people of our ship alongside Ja'far and his companions,

6:43 For whom he allotted shares together with them."

6:51 There also came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),

6:55 While he was at Khaybar after its conquest,

6:57 The Dawsites,

6:59 Among whom were at-Tufayl ibn 'Amr ad-Dawsi

7:02 And the prolific narrator of Islam, Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him),

7:06 Along with others.

7:09 Imam Ahmad narrated in his *Musnad*,

7:11 And al-Hakim in *al-Mustadrak* with an authentic chain,

7:14 From Khuthaym ibn 'Irak ibn Malik,

7:17 On the authority of his father, who said:

7:19 "Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him)

7:21 Arrived in Medina with a group of his people

7:24 While the Prophet (peace be upon him) was at Khaybar,

7:28 Having appointed Siba' ibn 'Urfutah (may Allah be pleased with him) over Medina.

7:33 He said:

7:34 'I reached him while he was reciting in the morning prayer, in the first rak'ah,

7:39 *Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ayn-Sad*,

7:43 And in the second rak'ah,

7:45 *Woe to the defrauders!*

7:47 He said:

7:48 'So I said to myself:

7:50 "Woe to so-and-so!

7:52 When he takes by measure,

7:53 He takes in full,

7:55 But when he measures out for others,

7:57 He gives less!"'

7:59 He said:

8:00 'When he finished the prayer,

8:01 He provided us with some provisions until we reached Khaybar,

8:05 And the Prophet (peace be upon him) had already conquered it.'

8:10 He said:

8:11 'So he spoke to the Muslims,

8:13 And they included us in their shares.'"

8:16 Imam al-Bukhari narrated in his *Sahih*,

8:19 And Imam Ahmad in his *Musnad*,

8:21 On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said:

8:24 "When I set out to come to the Prophet (peace be upon him),

8:28 I said along the way:

8:30 'O what a long, exhausting night,

8:34 Yet it delivered me from the abode of disbelief!'

8:38 A servant of mine had fled on the road,

8:41 But when I reached the Prophet (peace be upon him) and pledged allegiance to him,

8:46 While I was with him, the servant suddenly appeared.

8:50 So the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to me:

8:53 'O Abu Hurayrah, this is your servant!'

8:57 I replied: 'He is freed for the sake of Allah,'

9:00 And so I emancipated him."

9:07 Though the longing of mortals for one another endures long,

9:13 Longing for you knows no bound.

9:20 May Allah shower blessings upon you whenever the call to prayer is raised,

9:26 And whenever lips move in reciting what remains.
