0:25 The Fighting of Abu Bakr and 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them.

0:32 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave

0:36 The banner to Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him,

0:40 Then he gave it to 'Umar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him,

0:44 But victory was not granted through either of them.

0:46 For Imam Ahmad narrated in his Musnad, and Al-Bayhaqi

0:51 In Dala'il Al-Nubuwwah,

0:53 With the wording belonging to Ahmad via a strong chain of transmission,

0:56 On the authority of Buraydah ibn Al-Husayb, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

1:00 "We besieged Khaybar,

1:02 And Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, took the banner,

1:06 Yet he returned without victory being granted to him.

1:09 Then the next day, 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, took it;

1:12 He advanced, but returned without victory being granted to him,

1:16 And the people suffered severe hardship and exhaustion that day."

1:20 Al-Bayhaqi added in Dala'il Al-Nubuwwah:

1:23 "And Mahmud ibn Maslamah, may Allah be pleased with him, was killed."

1:27 Ibn Ishaq said:

1:29 "The first of its fortresses to be conquered was the fortress of Na'im,

1:33 And at it Mahmud ibn Maslamah, may Allah be pleased with him, was killed;

1:37 A millstone was thrown down upon him from it, killing him."

1:41 The Conquest at the Hands of Abu Al-Hasan, may Allah be pleased with him.

1:49 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave his Companions glad tidings of the conquest of the fortress of Na'im

1:56 At the hands of Abu Al-Hasan, 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him.

2:01 For the two Shaykhs narrated in their two Sahihs,

2:04 On the authority of Sahl ibn Sa'd, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

2:08 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said on the day of Khaybar:

2:13 "Tomorrow I shall certainly give this banner to a man through whose hands Allah will grant victory;

2:18 He loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him."

2:23 He said: "The people spent that night in deep suspense as to which of them would be given it.

2:29 When morning came, the people went early to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

2:35 Each of them hoping to be given it.

2:38 Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:

2:42 'Where is 'Ali ibn Abi Talib?'

2:44 It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, he is suffering from an eye ailment.'

2:49 He said: 'Send for him.'

2:52 So he was brought,

2:54 And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, spat lightly into his eyes and supplicated for him,

2:59 Whereupon he was cured as though he had never had any pain.

3:03 Then he handed him the banner.

3:05 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

3:07 'O Messenger of Allah, shall I fight them until they become like us?'

3:12 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, replied:

3:16 'Proceed steadily until you descend upon their open territory,

3:21 Then invite them to Islam,

3:23 And inform them of what is obligatory upon them regarding Allah's right therein.

3:27 For by Allah, that Allah should guide a single man through you

3:31 Is better for you than possessing red camels.'"

3:35 In another narration in Sahih Muslim,

3:39 On the authority of Salamah ibn Al-Akwa', may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

3:43 "So I went to 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him,

3:46 And brought him along, leading him while he was suffering from conjunctivitis,

3:49 Until I brought him to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

3:54 He then spat lightly into his eyes, and he was cured,

3:57 And he handed him the banner."

3:59 Marhab came out, reciting:

4:02 "Khaybar already knows that I am Marhab,

4:05 Fully armed, a seasoned hero,

4:08 Whenever wars advance, ablaze."

4:11 Thereupon, 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

4:14 "I am the one whose mother named him Haydarah,

4:18 Like a lion of the forests, terrifying to behold,

4:21 I repay them fully by the measure of Sandarah."

4:25 He said: "He then struck Marhab's head and killed him,

4:29 And victory was achieved through his hands."

4:32 Ibn Al-Athir said:

4:34 "What is authentic and held by the majority of the scholars of the Seerah and hadith

4:38 Is that 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, was the one who killed Marhab."

4:46 The Conquest of the Fortress of Al-Sa'b ibn Mu'adh.

4:49 The Jews who were in the fortress of Na'im fled,

4:53 After its conquest, to the fortress of Al-Sa'b ibn Mu'adh.

4:57 Thereupon, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, besieged

5:01 The fortress of Al-Sa'b ibn Mu'adh,

5:03 And the Muslims were stricken with severe hunger,

5:07 To the point that they slaughtered domestic donkeys

5:09 And lit fires beneath cooking pots for them.

5:12 But the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade them from doing so.

5:16 For the two Shaykhs narrated in their two Sahihs,

5:19 On the authority of Jabir ibn 'Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with them both, who said:

5:23 "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade on the day of Khaybar

5:27 The meat of domestic donkeys."

5:30 And the two Shaykhs narrated in their two Sahihs,

5:33 With the wording belonging to Muslim,

5:35 On the authority of Anas ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

5:38 "When the day of Khaybar arrived,

5:41 Someone came and said:

5:43 'O Messenger of Allah,

5:45 The donkeys have been eaten!'

5:47 Then another came

5:49 And said: 'O Messenger of Allah,

5:51 The donkeys have been decimated!'

5:53 So the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, commanded Abu Talhah to call out:

5:59 'Indeed, Allah and His Messenger forbid you from the meat of domestic donkeys,

6:03 For it is impure and filthy.'"

6:06 Al-Bukhari and Muslim added in another narration

6:10 On the authority of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him:

6:12 "So the pots were overturned,

6:14 Even while they were boiling with the meat."

6:17 Imam Al-Nawawi said:

6:19 "As for domestic donkeys,

6:21 It has occurred in most narrations

6:24 That the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

6:26 Forbade their meat on the day of Khaybar;

6:29 And in one narration:

6:31 'The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, prohibited

6:34 The meat of domestic donkeys.'

6:37 The scholars differed regarding this issue:

6:39 The overwhelming majority of the Companions, the Tabi'un,

6:42 And those who followed them held the prohibition of their meat

6:45 Due to these authentic and explicit hadiths.

6:48 Ibn 'Abbas said:

6:50 'It is not forbidden.'

6:52 And from Malik there are three narrations:

6:55 The most well-known is that it is strictly discouraged (makruh tanzihi),

6:59 The second is that it is forbidden (haram),

7:02 And the third is that it is permissible (mubah).

7:04 The correct view is prohibition,

7:06 As maintained by the vast majority,

7:08 Because of the explicit hadiths."

7:11 Then, indeed, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

7:14 Supplicated to his Lord, Mighty and Majestic is He,

7:16 For the conquest of the fortress of Al-Sa'b ibn Mu'adh.

7:19 Ibn Ishaq said:

7:21 "Banu Sahm of Aslam

7:23 Came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

7:26 And said:

7:28 'By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, we are utterly exhausted,

7:31 And we possess nothing at all.'

7:34 But they found that the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, did not have

7:38 Anything to give them.

7:40 So the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:

7:44 'O Allah, You know their condition,

7:47 And that they have no strength,

7:50 And that I have nothing in my hand to give them;

7:53 Therefore, grant them the conquest of the fortress that will provide the greatest

7:56 Sufficiency for them,

7:58 And is richest in food and fat.'

8:01 The next morning, the people advanced,

8:03 And Allah, Mighty and Majestic is He, granted the conquest of

8:05 The fortress of Al-Sa'b ibn Mu'adh;

8:07 And there was no fortress in Khaybar

8:09 That contained more food and fat than it."

8:13 An Abridgment of the Prophetic Biography (Seerah).

8:17 Though the longing of people for one another may endure,

8:24 The yearning for you knows no bounds.

8:30 May Allah bestow blessings upon you as long as the call to prayer is raised,

8:37 And lips move with enduring remembrance.
