0:40 The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) departed from 'Arafah toward Muzdalifah,

0:45 Chanting the Talbiyah as he went,

0:48 Having seated Usamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both) behind him on his mount.

1:10 *An-nass* is a faster gait than ordinary walking.

1:14 Whenever he came upon a sand dune,

1:17 He loosened the reins of his camel slightly so that it could ascend.

1:22 A *habl* is a massive, elongated ridge of sand.

1:27 When he was on the road near the mountain pass,

1:30 He (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted,

1:33 Relieved himself, and performed a light ablution.

1:36 Thereupon Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him,

1:39 "The prayer, O Messenger of Allah!"

1:42 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied,

1:45 "The prayer is ahead of you."

1:48 The two Sheikhs [al-Bukhari and Muslim] narrated in their Sahihs, and this wording is al-Bukhari's,

1:52 On the authority of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

1:56 Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him)

1:58 Was riding behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

2:01 From 'Arafah to Muzdalifah,

2:04 Then he seated Al-Fadl behind him from Muzdalifah to Mina.

2:36 On the authority of Jabir ibn 'Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

2:40 He remained standing until the sun set,

2:44 And the yellow glow faded slightly until the disc of the sun disappeared.

2:48 He seated Usamah behind him,

2:51 And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set forth,

2:54 Having pulled the reins of al-Qaswa' so tightly

2:57 That her head was touching the front part of his saddle,

3:01 While gesturing with his right hand:

3:03 "O people, maintain serenity, maintain serenity!"

3:07 Whenever he came upon a sand ridge,

3:10 He eased the reins slightly for her so she could climb,

3:13 Until he reached Muzdalifah.

3:18 And Abu Dawud in his Sunan with an authentic chain of transmission

3:22 On the authority of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

3:26 The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) departed

3:29 From 'Arafah with serenity,

3:32 Accompanied by Usamah (may Allah be pleased with him) riding behind him,

3:35 And he said, "O people, you must maintain tranquility,

3:40 For righteousness does not consist in spurring horses and camels to race."

3:47 On the authority of Usamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both),

3:51 That he was asked: "How did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

3:57 Proceed during the Farewell Pilgrimage when he departed?"

4:00 He (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

4:03 "He used to proceed at a moderate pace (*al-'anaq*),

4:05 And whenever he found an open space, he quickened his pace (*an-nass*)."

4:11 On the authority of Usamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

4:15 "I rode behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

4:18 From 'Arafat.

4:20 When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) reached

4:23 The ravine on the left side before Muzdalifah,

4:26 He made his mount kneel and relieved himself.

4:28 Then he returned, and I poured water for his ablution,

4:31 So he performed a light ablution.

4:34 I said, 'The prayer, O Messenger of Allah!'

4:37 He replied, 'The prayer is ahead of you.'"

4:40 When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arrived

4:44 At Muzdalifah,

4:46 Which is al-Mash'ar al-Haram,

4:48 He performed a thorough and complete ablution,

4:51 And performed the Maghrib and 'Isha' prayers there

4:54 With a single Adhan and two Iqamahs,

4:57 Without offering any voluntary prayer between them.

5:00 Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) lay down to rest

5:03 Until the break of dawn.

5:06 Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih

5:09 On the authority of Jabir ibn 'Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

5:12 "He prayed Maghrib and 'Isha' there

5:15 With a single Adhan and two Iqamahs,

5:18 Without glorifying Allah [i.e., praying voluntary prayers] between them.

5:21 Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) lay down

5:24 Until dawn broke."

5:27 The two Sheikhs narrated in their Sahihs

5:30 On the authority of Usamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

5:33 "When he reached Muzdalifah,

5:36 He dismounted, performed ablution, and did so thoroughly.

5:39 Then the Iqamah was called for prayer,

5:42 And he performed the Maghrib prayer;

5:44 Then each person made his camel kneel at his campsite.

5:47 Then the Iqamah was called for 'Isha',

5:50 And he prayed it without offering any prayer between the two."

5:53 Imam al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih

5:56 On the authority of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

5:59 "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) combined

6:02 Maghrib and 'Isha' at Jam' [Muzdalifah],

6:05 Each of them with a separate Iqamah,

6:08 And he did not offer any voluntary prayers between them,

6:11 Nor following either of them."

6:14 The Standing of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

6:21 At al-Mash'ar al-Haram,

6:24 Followed by his departure to Mina.

6:27 When dawn broke,

6:31 The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) arose

6:34 And led the people in the dawn prayer at its earliest time,

6:37 With an Adhan and an Iqamah.

6:40 That was the Day of Sacrifice [Yawm an-Nahr],

6:43 Which is the Day of the Greatest Pilgrimage [Yawm al-Hajj al-Akbar],

6:46 And the day on which Allah's proclamation of disassociation

6:49 And that of His Messenger from every polytheist was declared;

6:52 And it was a Saturday.

6:55 Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih

6:58 On the authority of Jabir ibn 'Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

7:01 "He prayed the Fajr prayer when the dawn had clearly appeared to him,

7:04 With an Adhan and an Iqamah.

7:07 Then he mounted al-Qaswa'

7:11 And faced the Qiblah,

7:14 Supplicating Allah, magnifying Him, proclaiming His oneness, and declaring His uniqueness.

7:17 He remained standing until the light of day became very bright,

7:20 And he departed before the sun rose."

7:23 Imam Ahmad narrated in his Musnad

7:26 And at-Tirmidhi in his Jami'

7:32 On the authority of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

7:45 The people that the whole of Muzdalifah is a standing place.

8:19 On the morning of the Day of Sacrifice

8:22 To gather the stoning pebbles for him,

8:25 So he picked up seven pebbles of the size used for sling-shooting.

8:34 On the authority of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said:

8:37 The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me

8:40 On the morning of 'Aqabah while upon his mount:

8:43 "Gather pebbles for me."

8:46 "So I gathered seven pebbles for him,

8:49 Small pebbles suitable for sling-shooting.

8:52 He began to shake them in his palm and say:

8:55 'With pebbles like these, throw!'

8:58 Then he said: 'O people,

9:01 Beware of extremism in religion!'"

9:04 The Stoning by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

9:09 Of Jamrat al-'Aqabah on the Day of Sacrifice.

9:12 Jabir ibn 'Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said:

9:16 "Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) took

9:19 The middle road

9:22 Which exits at the Greatest Pillar [al-Jamrah al-Kubra],

9:25 Until he reached the Jamrah that is near the tree.

9:28 He stoned it with seven pebbles,

9:31 Saying 'Allahu Akbar' with each pebble he threw."

9:34 Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih

9:37 On the authority of Jabir ibn 'Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with them both),

9:40 Who said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stoned

9:43 The Jamrah on the Day of Sacrifice in the forenoon.

9:49 On the authority of Jabir ibn 'Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with them both),

9:53 Who said: "I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

10:05 And he was saying:

10:06 'Learn your pilgrimage rites from me,

10:09 For I do not know whether I will perform Hajj after this Hajj of mine.'"

10:14 Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih

10:17 On the authority of Umm al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:

10:21 "I performed the Farewell Pilgrimage with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him),

10:26 And I saw him when he stoned Jamrat al-'Aqabah and turned away,

10:30 While he was upon his mount accompanied by Bilal and Usamah,

10:34 One of them leading his camel

10:37 And the other holding his garment over the head of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to shield him from the sun."

10:44 She said:

10:45 "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) spoke at length,

10:50 And then I heard him saying:

10:53 'If a mutilated black slave is appointed to rule over you,

10:57 Leading you according to the Book of Allah the Exalted,

11:00 Then listen to him and obey.'"

11:03 The Departure of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to the Slaughterhouse at Mina.

11:11 Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) proceeded to the slaughtering place in Mina,

11:18 and slaughtered his sacrificial camels with his own noble hand.

11:21 Indeed, Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih

11:24 on the authority of Jabir Ibn 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him and his father), who said:

11:29 "He then proceeded to the slaughtering place,

11:31 and slaughtered sixty-three camels with his own hand.

11:34 Then he handed over the rest to 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him),

11:37 who slaughtered what remained,

11:39 that is, the rest of them,

11:41 and he included him in his sacrificial offering.

11:43 Then he ordered that a piece of meat be taken from every camel—

11:46 that is, a portion—

11:48 which was placed in a pot and cooked,

11:51 and both of them ate from its meat and drank from its broth."

11:55 The sacrificial camels were brought close to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) in successive groups.

12:01 Imam Ahmad narrated in his Musnad and Abu Dawud in his Sunan with an authentic chain of narration

12:07 on the authority of 'Abdullah Ibn Qurt (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

12:11 "Five or six sacrificial camels were brought close to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),

12:17 and they began crowding towards him, competing as to which of them he would begin with."

12:23 Imam al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih

12:26 on the authority of 'Ali Ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

12:30 "The Prophet (peace be upon him) offered one hundred sacrificial camels,

12:35 and he ordered me to distribute their meat, so I distributed it.

12:38 Then he ordered me to distribute their saddle blankets, so I distributed them.

12:42 Then he ordered me to distribute their hides, so I distributed them."

12:45 (The *jilal* are the coverings or cloths placed over the back of a camel).

12:50 And the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhari and Muslim] narrated in their Sahihs, with the wording being Muslim's,

12:54 on the authority of 'Ali Ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

12:58 "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) commanded me to oversee his sacrificial camels,

13:04 and to give away in charity their meat, their hides, and their saddle blankets,

13:09 and not to give anything from them to the butcher as wages."

13:12 He added: "We pay him from our own funds."

13:16 *Al-Mukhtasar fi al-Sirah al-Nabawiyyah* (The Abridged Prophetic Biography):

13:20 "Though people's longing for one another may endure,

13:26 the longing for you is boundless beyond measure.

13:33 May Allah send His blessings upon you as long as the call to prayer is raised,

13:40 and as long as lips move with everlasting remembrance."
