0:03 Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

0:13 An Abridgment of the Prophetic Biography (Seerah),

0:17 Authored by Sheikh Musa Al-Rashid Al-'Azimi,

0:23 May Allah preserve him.

0:25 The Delegation of Bajilah.

0:30 Jarir Ibn 'Abdillah Al-Bajali, may Allah be pleased with him, arrived,

0:36 Accompanied by one hundred and fifty men from his tribe.

0:40 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, had already mentioned him before he entered the mosque.

0:46 For Imam Ahmad recorded in his Musnad with an authentic chain of transmission,

0:51 On the authority of Jarir Ibn 'Abdillah Al-Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

0:55 "When I drew near to Medina,

0:57 I made my mount kneel,

0:59 Unpacked my saddlebag,

1:01 Put on my finest garments,

1:03 And then entered.

1:05 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was delivering a sermon,

1:09 And the people began gazing at me intently.

1:12 So I said to the person sitting beside me:

1:14 'O servant of Allah,

1:16 Did the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) mention me?'

1:20 He replied, 'Yes,

1:22 He just mentioned you in the best manner.'

1:24 While he was delivering the sermon,

1:26 An occasion arose during his sermon and he said:

1:30 'There will enter upon you through this door,

1:34 Or through this mountain pass,

1:36 One of the best men of Yemen.

1:38 Indeed, upon his face is the mark of angelic grace.'"

1:42 Jarir, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

1:45 "So I praised Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, for the favor He bestowed upon me."

1:49 The two Sheikhs (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) recorded in their Sahihs,

1:52 With the wording belonging to Al-Bukhari,

1:54 On the authority of Jarir Ibn 'Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

1:58 "I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

2:01 To testify that there is no god but Allah,

2:04 And that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,

2:07 And to establish prayer, give zakat,

2:10 Listen and obey,

2:12 And offer sincere counsel to every Muslim."

2:16 The two Sheikhs recorded in their Sahihs,

2:19 On the authority of Jarir Ibn 'Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

2:23 "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) never barred me from seeing him since I embraced Islam,

2:28 Nor did he ever look at me without smiling."

2:31 And in another wording in the two Sahihs,

2:34 He, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

2:36 "Nor did he ever see me without smiling in my face."

2:40 An Important Note:

2:42 Imam Al-Tahawi recorded in Sharh Mushkil Al-Athar with an authentic chain of transmission,

2:47 On the authority of Jarir Ibn 'Abdillah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

2:51 "I embraced Islam forty days before the death of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him."

2:57 Imam Al-Tahawi said:

3:01 "In this hadith,

3:03 It states that the conversion of Jarir, may Allah be pleased with him,

3:06 Took place forty—

3:11 Either days or nights—before the death of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

3:14 And this, according to us, is a rejected (munkar) narration."

3:17 Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in Fath Al-Bari:

3:20 "There is disagreement regarding the date of his conversion (may Allah be pleased with him).

3:23 The correct view is that it occurred during the Year of Delegations,

3:26 In the ninth year of the Hijrah.

3:28 And mistaken is the one who claimed

3:30 It was forty days before the death of the Prophet (peace be upon him),

3:35 Because it is firmly established in the Sahih

3:37 That the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

3:40 Said to him during the Farewell Pilgrimage:

3:43 'Ask the people to be quiet and listen.'

3:45 And that was before his death (peace be upon him)

3:48 By more than eighty days."

3:51 He also stated in Al-Isabah:

3:53 "Al-Waqidi asserted

3:55 That he arrived as part of a delegation to the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the month of Ramadan in the tenth year of the Hijrah.

4:02 Yet, this is questionable in my view,

4:04 Because Sharik narrated from Al-Shaybani, from Al-Sha'bi, from Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

4:12 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to us:

4:16 "Indeed, your brother the Negus has died,

4:19 So seek forgiveness for him."'

4:21 Reported by Al-Tabarani.

4:23 This indicates that the conversion of Jarir, may Allah be pleased with him,

4:28 Occurred before the tenth year,

4:30 Because the Negus, may Allah be pleased with him, died before that."

4:37 The Dispatch of Mu'adh Ibn Jabal and Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with them) to Yemen.

4:45 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, dispatched

4:49 Mu'adh Ibn Jabal and Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with them, to Yemen,

4:54 And commanded them to teach the people the Qur'an.

4:58 For Imam Ahmad recorded in his Musnad and Al-Hakim in his Mustadrak with a good chain of transmission,

5:05 On the authority of Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

5:09 "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent Mu'adh and Abu Musa to Yemen,

5:15 And commanded them to teach the people the Qur'an."

5:19 And the two Sheikhs recorded in their Sahihs,

5:22 On the authority of Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:

5:26 "The Prophet (peace be upon him) dispatched him and Mu'adh to Yemen,

5:32 Saying: 'Make things easy and do not make them difficult;

5:36 Give glad tidings and do not drive people away;

5:38 Cooperate with one another and do not differ.'"

5:42 Imam Al-Nawawi said:

5:44 "In this hadith,

5:46 There is a command to give glad tidings of Allah's favor, His tremendous reward,

5:50 His bountiful gifts, and the vastness of His mercy;

5:53 And a prohibition against driving people away by mentioning fear and forms of threat alone, without coupling them with glad tidings.

6:01 It also entails drawing the hearts of those new to Islam,

6:04 Not being harsh with them,

6:07 And likewise with children approaching puberty,

6:10 Those who have reached puberty, and those who have repented from sins;

6:14 All of them should be treated with gentleness,

6:16 And introduced to the acts of obedience gradually."

6:21 And the two Sheikhs recorded in their Sahihs,

6:24 On the authority of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them), who said:

6:28 "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to Mu'adh Ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him)

6:34 When he dispatched him to Yemen:

6:36 'You are going to a people from the People of the Book.

6:40 So when you come to them,

6:42 Call them to testify that there is no god but Allah,

6:46 And that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.

6:49 If they obey you in that,

6:51 Then inform them that Allah has obligated upon them five prayers during every day and night.

6:58 If they obey you in that,

7:01 Then inform them that Allah has obligated upon them a charity (zakat)

7:05 To be taken from their rich and given to their poor.

7:10 If they obey you in that,

7:12 Then beware of taking the best of their wealth,

7:16 And beware of the supplication of the oppressed,

7:18 For there is no barrier between it and Allah.'"

7:25 The Final Farewell in this World.

7:30 Furthermore, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

7:34 Walked out with Mu'adh Ibn Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him, to bid him farewell,

7:38 Giving him an intimation that he would not meet the Prophet (peace be upon him) again in this earthly life.

7:46 For Imam Ahmad recorded in his Musnad with an authentic chain of transmission,

7:50 On the authority of Mu'adh Ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him), who said

7:54 That when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) dispatched him to Yemen,

7:59 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went out with him, giving him counsel,

8:04 While Mu'adh was riding

8:06 And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was walking beside his mount.

8:11 When he finished, he said:

8:13 "O Mu'adh,

8:15 You may not meet me again after this year of mine,

8:20 And you may well pass by this mosque of mine and my grave."

8:24 Thereupon Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him, wept bitterly out of grief over parting with the Prophet (peace be upon him).

8:32 Then he turned around,

8:33 Faced toward Medina, and said:

8:37 "Indeed, the closest of people to me

8:39 Are the righteous,

8:41 Whoever they may be and wherever they may be."

8:44 Al-Hafiz Ibn Kathir said:

8:46 "In this hadith,

8:48 There is an explicit indication, a clear sign, and an allusion

8:51 That Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him, would not meet again with the Prophet (peace be upon him).

8:58 And so it transpired,

9:00 For he remained in Yemen

9:02 Until the Farewell Pilgrimage took place,

9:06 Followed by the passing of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

9:10 Eighty-one days after the Day of the Greater Pilgrimage.

9:16 An Abridgment

9:18 Of the Prophetic Biography (Seerah):

9:20 If the longing of people for one another endures long,

9:27 The yearning for you is beyond all measure.

9:34 May Allah send blessings upon you as long as the call to prayer is raised,

9:40 And as long as lips move

9:47 With everlasting praise.
