0:29 Ibn Ishaq said:

0:33 When the Quraysh saw that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

0:38 had gained followers and companions from outside their own land,

0:43 and they observed the migration of his Companions to them,

0:47 they realized that they had settled in a secure territory,

0:50 and had found protection among them.

0:52 Thus, they feared the departure of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, to join them,

0:58 and they knew that he had resolved to fight them.

1:01 Consequently, they gathered at Dar al-Nadwa,

1:04 consulting one another on what to do regarding the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, now that they feared him.

1:12 They arrived early on the day they had appointed for this meeting,

1:15 a day that came to be known as the "Day of the Throng."

1:19 Some said to others:

1:21 "You have seen what this man has done."

1:26 "By Allah, we are no longer safe from him launching an attack upon us, given those who have followed him from outside our ranks."

1:33 One of them said:

1:35 "Imprison him in chains,"

1:37 "and lock the door upon him."

1:40 "Then wait for him to meet the same fate as those poets who preceded him,"

1:46 "like Zuhayr and al-Nabigha, and those who died before him,"

1:51 "until he meets the same end as they did."

1:54 They rejected this proposal.

1:56 Then another said:

1:59 "Let us expel him from our midst,"

2:01 "and banish him from our land."

2:04 "Once he is cast out, by Allah, we will not care where he goes or where he ends up,"

2:10 "and our affairs and unity will be restored as they were before."

2:14 They rejected this proposal as well.

2:16 Then Abu Jahl—may Allah disgrace him—said:

2:19 "By Allah, I have a plan that none of you have yet considered."

2:25 They asked, "What is it, O Abu al-Hakam?"

2:27 He said:

2:29 "I propose we take a strong, young man from every tribe,"

2:34 "someone of noble lineage and standing among us."

2:36 "Then, we give each of them a sharp sword,"

2:40 "and they shall go to him,"

2:42 "and strike him as one man,"

2:46 "killing him so that we may be rid of him."

2:49 "For if they do that,"

2:51 "his blood will be divided among all the tribes,"

2:55 "and the Banu Abd Manaf will not be able to fight all their people combined."

2:59 "They will then accept the blood money (diya) from us,"

3:03 "and we shall pay it to them."

3:05 They agreed to this plan,

3:07 and the people dispersed, fully resolved to carry it out.

3:14 Allah the Almighty informs His Messenger, peace be upon him,

3:19 of the plot of the disbelievers of Quraysh.

3:22 Allah the Almighty informed His Messenger, peace be upon him,

3:27 of the plot the polytheists had devised against him,

3:30 and revealed to him the words of the Almighty:

3:33 “And when those who disbelieve plot against thee (O Muhammad) to wound thee fatally, or to kill thee or to drive thee forth; they plot, but Allah (also) plotteth; and Allah is the best of plotters.” (8:30)

3:41 And they plot, and Allah plots;

3:45 and Allah is the best of plotters.

3:50 Imam Ibn Jarir al-Tabari said in his Tafsir of this verse:

3:55 The interpretation of the statement is:

3:57 "Remember, O Muhammad, My favor upon you,"

4:00 "by My plotting against those who sought to plot against you from among the polytheists of your people,"

4:04 "whether by imprisoning you, killing you,"

4:06 "or expelling you from your homeland,"

4:08 "until I rescued you from them and destroyed them."

4:12 "So, I shall carry out My decree in the war against those of the polytheists who fought you,"

4:16 "and turned away from responding to the upright religion with which I sent you."

4:21 "Do not let their great numbers intimidate you,"

4:24 "for your Lord is the best of plotters against those who disbelieve in Him, worship others,"

4:29 "and defy His commands and prohibitions."

4:32 The duration of the Prophet's stay in Makkah before the migration (Hijrah).

4:41 Imam al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih from Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, that he said:

4:48 "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was commissioned at the age of forty."

4:53 "He remained in Makkah for thirteen years receiving revelation,"

4:57 "then he was commanded to migrate,"

4:59 "so he migrated for ten years,"

5:02 "and he passed away at the age of sixty-three."

5:05 Imam al-Nawawi said:

5:07 "They are in agreement that he, peace be upon him, stayed in Madinah after the migration for ten years,"

5:15 "and in Makkah before his prophethood for forty years."

5:18 "The disagreement is only regarding the length of his stay in Makkah after his prophethood."

5:23 "The correct view is that it was thirteen years,"

5:26 "making his age sixty-three."

5:30 "This which we have mentioned—that he was commissioned at the age of forty—"

5:35 "is the correct and well-known view upon which the scholars have converged."

5:44 If the longing of the worlds for some is great,

5:51 the longing for you, O Messenger of Allah, has no bounds.

5:58 May Allah send blessings upon you as long as the call to prayer is raised,
