0:05 Summary of the book:
0:07 "Ramadan:
0:09 Events and Lessons."
0:11 The passing of the Mother of the Believers,
0:15 Khadijah bint Khuwaylid,
0:18 may Allah be pleased with her.
0:20 The Date:
0:23 On the tenth of Ramadan,
0:26 in the tenth year of the Prophetic mission.
0:29 A wife is her husband's life partner
0:35 and his companion through all circumstances:
0:38 in ease and hardship,
0:41 in joy and sorrow,
0:43 in wealth and poverty,
0:45 and in hopes and pain.
0:48 Whenever a righteous man is blessed with a righteous wife,
0:52 how excellent a companion he has acquired,
0:55 and how wonderful a partner he has gained!
0:58 Our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
1:02 was among those for whom Allah chose
1:05 the very best and purest of women,
1:08 selecting for him from among them
1:10 the most pious and upright.
1:13 They were the finest wives for the finest of husbands,
1:16 and the best of women for the best husband.
1:19 Foremost among his pure wives was
1:22 Khadijah bint Khuwaylid,
1:25 may Allah be pleased with her.
1:27 Indeed, Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her,
1:31 is a role model for every Muslim woman,
1:33 from whom one should draw
1:36 lessons in purity and chastity,
1:39 in choosing a husband wisely,
1:41 in mastering the art of being a devoted wife,
1:43 in skillfully resolving a husband's troubles,
1:46 in knowing how to ease
1:49 his grief and worries,
1:51 and in understanding his background
1:53 to help him build his present
1:56 and his future.
1:58 She is an unmatched model of sacrifice
2:01 in championing the truth,
2:03 offering material and moral support
2:06 to the Islamic message,
2:08 and answering its call
2:10 without hesitation or dispute.
2:13 The life of our mother Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her,
2:17 is a rich source
2:19 of righteousness for the believing woman.
2:22 It is an academy
2:24 from which one can graduate with distinction,
2:27 mastering how to be a righteous wife,
2:30 an inspiring caller to the faith,
2:32 an ascetic worshipper,
2:34 and a woman who dedicated her wealth
2:36 to championing the truth and its people.
2:40 The Merits of Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her:
2:43 First:
2:45 Noble lineage and ancestry,
2:47 wealth, honor, and beauty.
2:50 Second:
2:52 Sound judgment and manifest wisdom.
2:55 Third:
2:57 Sacrificing her wealth to champion the truth.
3:01 Fourth:
3:02 Her immense love for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
3:07 and prioritizing his pleasure.
3:10 Fifth:
3:12 Chastity and purity;
3:14 even in the pre-Islamic era, she was known as "the Pure One."
3:18 Many of the chieftains of Quraysh sought her hand in marriage,
3:22 yet she declined them all,
3:24 as if searching for a long-sought ideal
3:27 she could not find among them,
3:29 until she found it in Muhammad ibn 'Abdillah.
3:33 For Allah had reserved her for him,
3:35 and reserved him for her.
3:37 Her Virtues:
3:39 First:
3:41 She was the very first responsible person
3:43 to believe in the prophethood of our Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, without exception.
3:48 Second:
3:50 She was given the glad tidings of Paradise
3:52 while she was still walking on the earth.
3:55 Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that he said:
3:59 Gabriel came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said:
4:04 "O Messenger of Allah,
4:06 here is Khadijah coming to you,
4:09 carrying a vessel of seasoning, food, or drink.
4:14 When she reaches you,
4:16 convey to her greetings of peace from her Lord and from me,
4:20 and give her the glad tidings of a palace in Paradise made of hollow pearls,
4:24 wherein there is neither noise nor fatigue."
4:27 Third:
4:30 She received greetings of peace from Allah and from Gabriel,
4:33 as attested by the preceding hadith of Abu Hurayrah.
4:38 Fourth:
4:39 She is among the best women of the worlds.
4:43 On the authority of 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him,
4:47 the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
4:51 "The best of its women is Mary,
4:53 and the best of its women is Khadijah."
4:56 Indeed, some narrations state that she is the best woman of this Ummah.
5:02 'Ammar ibn Yasir, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, said:
5:07 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
5:11 "Khadijah has been favored over the women of my Ummah
5:15 just as Mary was favored over the women of the worlds."
5:19 Fifth:
5:22 All the children of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, were from her,
5:27 except for Ibrahim.
5:30 The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
5:32 "She was such and such,
5:35 and she bore my children."
5:38 The Noble Prophet's Reciprocation of Gratitude:
5:43 First, he did not take another wife until she died.
5:48 Second, his immense love for her
5:52 and never forgetting her excellence;
5:55 he, peace and blessings be upon him, said regarding her:
5:59 "I was indeed blessed with her love."
6:02 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated:
6:05 Whenever the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, mentioned Khadijah,
6:10 he would praise her in the most magnificent manner.
6:13 She said: "One day, I became jealous
6:16 and said: 'How often you remember that toothless old woman,
6:21 when Allah has replaced her for you with someone better than her!'
6:26 He said: 'Allah has not replaced her with anyone better than her.
6:32 She believed in me when the people disbelieved,
6:36 she verified my truthfulness when the people accused me of lying,
6:39 she supported me with her wealth when the people deprived me,
6:43 and Allah blessed me with her children
6:47 while denying me the children of other women.'"
6:50 Third, his profound grief over her passing, as will be discussed.
6:56 Fourth, her memory was never erased from his heart or mind.
7:02 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated:
7:06 Halah bint Khuwaylid, Khadijah's sister, sought permission to enter
7:10 upon the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
7:14 and he recognized Khadijah's manner of asking permission,
7:17 which moved him deeply, and he exclaimed:
7:20 "O Allah, let it be Halah bint Khuwaylid!"
7:23 I became jealous and said:
7:26 "Why do you remember an old woman from among the elders of Quraysh,
7:30 toothless and long deceased,
7:34 when Allah has replaced her for you with someone better?"
7:37 Fifth, his kind treatment of her friends out of loyalty to her.
7:43 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated:
7:48 "I was never as jealous of any of the Prophet's wives
7:53 as I was of Khadijah, though I never saw her.
7:58 But the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to mention her often,
8:03 and he would sometimes slaughter a sheep, cut it into pieces,
8:08 and send them to Khadijah's friends.
8:12 I would sometimes say to him: 'It is as if there were no other woman in the world
8:16 except Khadijah!'
8:19 and he would reply: 'She was such and such,
8:23 and she bore my children.'"
8:26 The Sorrowful Event and Its Date:
8:30 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
8:34 enjoyed immense blessings in the embrace of Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her,
8:39 finding in her company solace and serenity,
8:43 soothing comfort against the flames of sorrow,
8:47 and noble support through life's hardships;
8:51 she was the delight of his eyes and a sanctuary of happiness and peace.
8:56 Yet death is an inevitable truth and an unalterable decree;
9:02 thus, death visited Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her,
9:07 in the month of Ramadan, after ten days had passed,
9:11 in the tenth year of the Prophetic mission,
9:15 though some say earlier.
9:17 This event had a painful impact on the soul of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
9:25 for he lost a strong arm that supported and empowered him,
9:31 an embrace that had comforted and sheltered him,
9:35 and a beloved companion who had stood by him in ease and hardship
9:40 for twenty-five years.
9:43 What intensified this sorrow
9:46 was its proximity to the passing of his uncle, Abu Talib,
9:50 who had been his external protector among the people,
9:54 while the mother of his children, Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her,
9:59 was his internal pillar of support.
10:02 Among the lessons of this event:
10:05 First, no matter how strong and enduring the bonds of love may be,
10:10 death must inevitably sever them;
10:14 love whomever you will, for you will surely part with them.
10:18 Yet for the believer, this is a station of immense reward through patience and acceptance.
10:24 Second:
10:27 Grief that is free from words and deeds contrary to patience
10:32 carries no sin,
10:34 for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
10:37 showed profound sorrow at the loss of Khadijah.
10:41 Third:
10:43 Grief is greatest over the loss of one whose life was an abundant spring
10:47 overflowing with goodness and generosity
10:50 bestowed upon others.
10:53 Fourth:
10:55 The death of a righteous wife
10:57 remains a deep wound in a husband's soul,
11:01 rekindled by memories
11:03 and revived by familiar sights and sounds.
11:07 Fifth:
11:09 All that our mother Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her, offered
11:13 in supporting and aiding the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
11:18 and her profound righteousness and goodness,
11:21 compel us to hold her in ever greater esteem, love, and praise—
11:27 may Allah be pleased with her.
