0:03 Mawaddah Association presents: The Ten Promised Paradise.
0:10 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him.
0:17 Love for the Companions and the Prophet's kin is an established Sunnah,
0:22 With which I shall meet my Lord when He resurrects me.
0:27 Love for the Companions and the Prophet's kin.
0:30 Historians unanimously agree that 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him,
0:35 Participated in all the military expeditions except Tabuk,
0:39 And had noble stances before the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, on the battlefields.
0:46 During the Battle of Badr, 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) set out
0:52 Alongside the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Abu Lubabah the Ansari,
0:57 Sharing a single camel and taking turns riding it.
1:02 'Ali and Abu Lubabah said to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him):
1:09 "We will walk on your behalf, O Messenger of Allah."
1:12 The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, replied:
1:15 "Neither of you is stronger than I am, nor am I in any less need of the reward than you two."
1:21 When the Muslims reached Badr
1:24 And both armies took their positions,
1:27 Three horsemen from Quraysh stepped forward:
1:30 'Utbah ibn Rabi'ah, his brother Shaybah,
1:33 And his son Al-Walid ibn 'Utbah,
1:36 Demanding a duel.
1:38 Three young men from the Ansar went out to face them,
1:42 So 'Utbah asked, "Who are you?"
1:45 They answered, "We are from the Ansar."
1:48 He said, "We have no need of you;
1:51 We only want our own cousins."
1:54 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
1:57 "Stand, O Hamzah! Stand, O 'Ali!
2:00 Stand, O 'Ubaydah ibn al-Harith!"
2:03 They rose swiftly,
2:05 Charging out like fierce lions,
2:08 And clashed with the knights of disbelief
2:10 To send them to their doom.
2:13 As for Hamzah, he lunged toward 'Utbah
2:16 And gave him a taste of the cup of death.
2:19 As for 'Ali, he clashed with Shaybah
2:22 And made him drink from the very same cup as his brother.
2:25 As for 'Ubaydah,
2:27 He and Al-Walid exchanged two strikes,
2:30 Each wounding the other.
2:33 Thereupon, Hamzah and 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with them) rushed
2:36 Toward Al-Walid and slew him,
2:38 Then carried 'Ubaydah ibn al-Harith
2:40 Back to the Muslim camp.
2:42 Concerning these two groups
2:45 Of duelists, Allah revealed His words:
2:48 On the day of Uhud,
3:43 The battle turned against the Muslims,
3:46 And a rumor spread that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
3:49 Had been killed. A surge of protective zeal
3:52 Overcame the soul of 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
3:55 He went searching among the slain
3:57 For the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him,
4:00 But could not find him.
4:02 He said, "By Allah, the Messenger of Allah
4:05 Would never flee, nor do I see him among the slain.
4:09 Rather, I think Allah has become angry with us
4:12 For what we did,
4:14 And has taken up His Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
4:17 There is nothing better for me now than to fight
4:20 Until I am killed."
4:22 So he broke the scabbard of his sword
4:24 And charged into the enemy.
4:26 The Muslims parted ways for him,
4:29 And he looked, and there was the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)
4:33 In their midst.
4:35 When the Battle of Uhud came to an end
4:37 And the disbelievers of Quraysh withdrew from the battlefield,
4:40 While the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)
4:43 Remained there,
4:45 He sent 'Ali ibn Abi Talib
4:47 After the polytheists
4:49 To confirm their departure,
4:51 Telling him:
4:53 "Track the enemy
4:55 And see what they are doing and what they intend:
4:58 If they lead their horses aside
5:00 And mount their camels,
5:02 Then they are heading for Mecca;
5:04 But if they ride the horses and drive the camels,
5:07 Then they intend to attack Medina.
5:10 By the One in Whose hand my soul is,
5:12 If they intend to march on it,
5:14 I will surely march out against them there
5:16 And fight them to the finish."
5:18 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) set out in pursuit of them
5:22 And saw that they had led the horses aside and mounted the camels,
5:25 Heading toward Mecca.
5:28 Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered
5:31 'Ali ibn Abi Talib
5:33 To bring him some water.
5:35 He brought him water from Mount Uhud,
5:38 But when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)
5:41 Wanted to drink, he noticed an unpleasant odor
5:44 And could not stomach it,
5:46 So he washed his face with it, saying:
5:49 "Fierce is Allah's wrath against whoever bloodied the face of Allah's Messenger."
5:54 Then Fatimah, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), arrived
5:59 And began washing the blood from her father's face,
6:02 While 'Ali poured the water over it.
6:06 When Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) saw
6:09 That the water only caused the blood to flow more profusely,
6:12 She took a piece of straw mat,
6:14 Burned it until it turned to ashes,
6:17 And applied it to the wound,
6:19 Whereupon the bleeding stopped.
6:21 During the Battle of the Trench,
6:23 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him,
6:28 Preoccupied with repelling the polytheists
6:31 Until the 'Asr prayer had passed them by.
6:34 The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
6:37 "They distracted us from the middle prayer,
6:40 The 'Asr prayer.
6:41 May Allah fill their homes and their graves with fire!"
6:45 They then performed the 'Asr prayer
6:47 Between the Maghrib and 'Isha prayers.
6:51 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) was also
6:54 Among those honored to give the Pledge of Ridwan,
6:57 Pledging allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)
7:01 Beneath the tree,
7:03 Concerning which Allah sent down His revelation.
7:04 When the peace treaty was being concluded between the Prophet (peace be upon him)
7:07 And the people of Mecca,
7:09 The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) summoned 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)
7:13 To write the terms of the treaty.
7:16 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to him:
7:20 "Write: In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful."
7:23 But Suhayl ibn 'Amr,
7:25 The chief negotiator for the people of Mecca, said:
7:28 "As for 'the Entirely Merciful,'
7:30 By Allah, I do not know what it means;
7:32 Rather, write: In Your name, O Allah."
7:36 The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to 'Ali:
7:39 "Write: In Your name, O Allah."
7:42 Then he said:
7:44 "This is what Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, has agreed upon with Suhayl ibn 'Amr."
7:49 Suhayl objected:
7:51 "By Allah, if we had known that you were the Messenger of Allah,
7:54 We would not have barred you from the House nor fought you;
7:58 Rather, write: Muhammad ibn 'Abdillah."
8:01 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:
8:05 "By Allah, I am truly the Messenger of Allah, even if you reject me."
8:10 Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to 'Ali:
8:14 "Erase it."
8:17 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) replied:
8:19 "By Allah, he is the Messenger of Allah despite your disdain,
8:23 And by Allah, I will not erase it."
8:26 So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to 'Ali, "Show me where it is,"
8:32 And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) erased it with his own noble hand.
8:37 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) also took part in the Battle of Khaybar alongside the Prophet (peace be upon him),
8:45 Where he had a celebrated feat
8:48 Envied by everyone present on that day.
8:52 Each day, the Prophet (peace be upon him) had been handing the banner to one of the heroes among the Companions
9:00 Over the course of several days,
9:02 Yet some of Khaybar's fortresses remained unconquered.
9:07 On one of the nights of this great campaign,
9:11 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to his companions:
9:15 "Tomorrow I will surely give the banner to a man who loves Allah and His Messenger, and whom Allah and His Messenger love;
9:22 He will not return until victory is granted through him."
9:25 Many of the Companions hoped that they would be that man,
9:30 So much so that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
9:34 "I never desired leadership except on that day."
9:38 The men spent their night wondering who would receive this honor,
9:42 And in the morning, they went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him),
9:47 Each of them hoping it would be given to him.
9:50 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) asked:
9:54 "Where is 'Ali ibn Abi Talib?"
9:56 It was said, "O Messenger of Allah, he is sick with an ailment in his eyes."
10:01 So they sent for him,
10:03 And Muhammad ibn Maslamah brought him, leading him by the hand.
10:07 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) spat lightly into his eyes
10:11 And prayed for him,
10:13 And he was instantly healed as though he had never suffered any pain.
10:17 He then handed him the banner and said to him:
10:20 "Advance steadily until you enter their territory,
10:24 Then invite them to Islam,
10:26 And inform them of their obligations regarding Allah's rights within it.
10:30 For by Allah, that Allah should guide a single man through you
10:34 Is better for you than possessing red camels."
10:38 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) advanced toward the Jewish fortresses,
10:42 And Marhab stepped forward to meet them—
10:44 One of the Jewish champions
10:46 And their fiercest warrior of all—
10:49 Demanding a duel,
10:51 Chanting his battle verses:
10:53 "Khaybar well knows that I am Marhab,
10:56 Fully armed, a battle-tested champion,
10:59 When wars advance ablaze with flames."
11:04 'Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) marched out against him,
11:07 Reciting in return:
11:09 "I am the one whose mother named him Haydarah,
11:12 Like a fierce lion of the forest, terrifying to behold,
11:16 Repaying them fully in bountiful measure."
11:19 The two heroic knights clashed,
11:22 Locking in fierce single combat
11:25 And trading terrifying blows,
11:28 While both armies
11:30 watching closely to see the outcome of this duel.
11:34 Thereupon, 'Ali
11:36 struck Marhab's head, cleaving it in two,
11:39 and Marhab was slain.
11:41 The Muslims proclaimed the takbir,
11:43 the Jewish forces were routed,
11:45 and victory was achieved at his hands.
11:47 When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, resolved
11:51 to conquer Makkah,
11:53 he prayed to Allah Almighty to conceal their plans from its people,
11:57 so that no fighting would take place among them.
12:00 Then an unforeseen incident occurred:
12:03 Hatib Ibn Abi Balta'ah, may Allah be pleased with him, sent a letter to Quraysh
12:08 informing them of the departure of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
12:12 and his march toward them,
12:14 dispatching the letter with a woman.
12:17 Divine revelation descended upon the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
12:21 informing him of what Hatib had done.
12:23 So the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, sent
12:26 for 'Ali Ibn Abi Talib,
12:28 al-Zubayr Ibn al-'Awwam,
12:30 and Abu Marthad, may Allah be pleased with them,
12:33 and instructed them: "Go until you reach Rawdat Khakh,
12:38 for there is a woman there carrying a letter from Hatib Ibn Abi Balta'ah to the polytheists;
12:44 bring it to me."
12:46 The three rode off on their horses
12:49 until they intercepted the woman right where the Prophet, peace be upon him, had told them.
12:54 They said to her:
12:56 "Where is the letter in your possession?"
12:58 She replied: "I have no letter with me."
13:01 So they made her camel kneel,
13:03 searched her luggage,
13:05 but found nothing.
13:07 Al-Zubayr and Abu Marthad said:
13:10 "We do not see any letter with her."
13:12 'Ali said to them:
13:14 "You well know that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has not lied!"
13:19 Then 'Ali swore an oath, saying:
13:23 "By Allah, you will either produce the letter,
13:25 or we will strip you of your clothes!"
13:27 At that point, she told them: "Turn away,"
13:30 took it out from between the braids of her hair, and handed it over to them.
13:35 They brought it to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
13:39 and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked Hatib:
13:43 "What prompted you to do what you did?"
13:46 Hatib offered his apology,
13:48 and the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, accepted his excuse,
13:51 saying: "He has spoken the truth; do not say anything of him except good."
13:56 During the Battle of Hunayn,
13:59 when the people were exposed and routed,
14:02 having fallen into the ambush laid for them by the people of al-Ta'if,
14:06 the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, moved toward the right
14:10 and proclaimed:
14:12 "To me, O people!
14:14 Come to me!
14:16 I am the Messenger of Allah!
14:18 I am Muhammad Ibn 'Abdillah!"
14:20 In those critical moments, none remained with him
14:23 save a small band of the Companions and his household,
14:27 among whom was 'Ali Ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him.
14:31 They fought fiercely against the polytheists and resisted,
14:34 and the Muslims rallied around them
14:37 until Allah decreed for them a manifest victory.
14:41 During the fighting,
14:43 there was at the forefront of Hawazin
14:45 a man of massive build
14:47 riding a red camel,
14:49 bearing a black banner in his hand.
14:52 Whenever he caught up with someone ahead of him, he impaled him with it,
14:56 and if anyone bypassed him,
14:58 he thrust it back at him, stabbing him in the back,
15:01 inflicting heavy casualties among the people.
15:04 So 'Ali Ibn Abi Talib and a man from the Ansar lay in wait for him,
15:08 both intending to strike him down.
15:10 'Ali came upon him from behind
15:12 and slashed the hock of the camel,
15:16 causing it to collapse onto its haunches.
15:18 Then the Ansari leapt at the man
15:21 and struck him a blow that severed his foot along with half his shin,
15:26 leaving him sprawled on the ground, covered in his own blood.
15:29 The battle raged on
15:31 until the polytheists suffered defeat.
15:36 'Ali did not participate in the expedition of Tabuk alongside the Muslims,
15:41 the reason being
15:43 that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
15:46 left him behind in charge of his household in Madinah.
15:49 'Ali said: "O Messenger of Allah,
15:52 are you leaving me behind with the women and children?"
15:55 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, replied:
15:59 "Are you not pleased to hold the same station to me as Aaron did to Moses,
16:04 except that there will be no prophet after me?"
16:07 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, had written
16:10 a letter to the people of Najran,
16:13 inviting them therein to Islam,
16:15 or to pay the jizyah, or to face war.
16:18 The people of Najran were deeply alarmed by this,
16:22 and they dispatched a delegation to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
16:27 consisting of sixty men.
16:30 When the delegation arrived in Madinah,
16:33 they began disputing with the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, concerning 'Isa, peace be upon him,
16:39 while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, recited the Qur'an to them
16:44 and refuted their falsehood with clear proof.
16:47 When they were overcome by argument,
16:49 they challenged the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, to a mutual imprecation (mubahalah),
16:54 and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, agreed,
16:58 and Allah Almighty revealed verses concerning it.
17:00 When the appointed day arrived,
17:03 the Christians came in their crowds,
17:06 and the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, came forth
17:09 accompanied by 'Ali Ibn Abi Talib, al-Hasan, and al-Husayn,
17:14 and said:
17:15 "O Allah, these are my household."
17:18 When al-'Aqib, the chief of the Christians, saw them,
17:23 he said to those with him: "Do not enter into mutual imprecation with him,
17:26 for if you do,
17:28 this valley will blaze with fire upon you!
17:31 Muhammad is indeed a messenger sent by Allah,
17:34 and you know that he has brought you the decisive truth concerning 'Isa."
17:39 So they abandoned the mubahalah
17:41 and returned to their land
17:43 after agreeing to pay the jizyah to the Muslims.
17:47 In the next episode, by Allah's leave,
17:50 we will explore the stances of 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him,
17:54 during the final days of the Beloved, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
17:58 and during the eras of the Rightly Guided Caliphs who preceded him,
18:02 if Allah wills.
18:15 May they dwell in the Gardens of Eternity,
18:19 their honor ever increased:
18:22 Talhah,
18:25 Ibn 'Awf,
18:27 al-Zubayr,
18:29 along with
18:31 Abu 'Ubaydah,
18:33 the two Sa'ds,
18:35 and the Caliphs.
