0:08 “Lo! they who spread the slander are a gang among you. Deem it not a bad thing for you; nay, it is good for you. Unto every man of them (will be paid) that which he hath earned of the sin; and as for him among them who had the greater share therein, his will be an awful doom.” (24:11)

0:21 And how magnificent a word it is,

0:24 Sent down from the Great Lord upon the heart of the one spoken to,

0:28 Whose heart was wounded by the arrows of slander,

0:31 And pierced by the spears of aggression.

0:34 The target of this consolation

0:37 Was the family of the chaste honor,

0:40 Whose purity of status is undisputed by the believers.

0:43 Despite the severity of the impact of the accusation

0:46 Upon that pure household,

0:49 Allah the Exalted says to them:

0:52 Do not think that this slander is an evil for you.

0:55 “Lo! they who spread the slander are a gang among you. Deem it not a bad thing for you; nay, it is good for you. Unto every man of them (will be paid) that which he hath earned of the sin; and as for him among them who had the greater share therein, his will be an awful doom.” (24:11)

0:58 For you shall receive through it good deeds,

1:01 Elevation in ranks, and the expiation of sins.

1:04 It was a source of good for 'A'ishah,

1:07 And for the family of Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with them,

1:10 That their innocence and purification

1:13 Were inscribed by the Lord in the Qur'an,

1:16 To be recited until the Day of Resurrection.

1:20 There is no doubt that this phrase

1:29 Found a welcome place in those pure hearts,

1:32 And its coolness and peace extinguished

1:35 The heat of those hearts that were burning

1:38 From the slander, so their affliction became light,

1:41 And they looked forward to the good outcome

1:44 Of what had befallen them.

1:47 And how could it be otherwise,

1:50 When they were hearts that had tasted the sweetness of faith,

1:53 And the influence of the Qur'an had permeated them?

1:56 Indeed, this part of the verse

1:59 Is a Qur'anic training in the correct perspective

2:02 Toward calamities, no matter how great they may be,

2:05 And the appropriate stance during days

2:08 Of adversity, should they intensify.

2:12 It is a perspective based on patience and balance,

2:15 And looking toward the future

2:18 Good outcomes.

2:21 It provides protection against wavering and agitation,

2:24 And the weakness and frailty of the soul.

2:27 For calamities, even if their evil seems great,

2:30 Contain for the believers

2:33 Good, both immediate and delayed.

2:36 And for others, there is at least immediate good.

2:39 Yet the pessimistic view held by many

2:42 People obscures that good,

2:45 So they neither see it nor acknowledge it.

2:48 In this Qur'anic phrase,

2:51 For those who are certain of its content,

2:54 There is a medicine that lightens the weight of pain.

2:57 For when the human soul is struck by

3:00 Misfortunes, if it is patient,

3:03 Optimistic, and holds a good opinion of Allah,

3:06 The burden of those misfortunes upon it is lightened.

3:09 But if it is prone to panic,

3:13 Pessimism, and suspicion,

3:16 Then the harm is doubled upon it.

3:19 One might say the calamity becomes two,

3:22 And the soul then descends

3:25 To a miserable fate and a feeling of despair.

3:28 If you were to look into the Qur'an and the Sunnah,

3:31 And into the past and the present,

3:34 You would see many beloved things

3:37 That only reached their people by way of

3:40 The boats of adversity.

3:43 Yusuf, peace be upon him, entered prison,

3:46 And according to that outcome, it was a great evil,

3:49 Following the blessing in the house of the Aziz,

3:52 And the good reputation of Yusuf

3:55 On the tongues of the people.

3:58 Yet no one knew that this apparent evil

4:01 Contained within it a great good

4:04 For Yusuf and others.

4:07 For from the womb of the prison

4:10 Emerged Yusuf the innocent,

4:13 The ruler over the storehouses of Egypt,

4:16 The economic expert

4:19 Through whom Allah saved the people

4:22 During the years of drought,

4:25 The generous, the forgiving,

4:28 The merciful to his family,

4:31 Whom he fed on a day of severe hunger,

4:34 And brought them to share in his great honor

4:38 In Egypt.

4:42 The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, concluded

4:45 The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah,

4:48 And among its terms

4:51 Were things that saddened some of the Muslims,

4:54 Among them 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him.

4:57 He considered what happened to be an evil for the Muslims,

5:00 Then the days passed,

5:03 And that evil became a great good

5:07 For the Muslims.

5:10 So if something you dislike befalls you,

5:13 Be certain that it contains what you love,

5:16 Even if it is hidden or delayed.

5:19 Just wait, and you shall see.

5:22 By this, your burden will be lightened.

5:25 Keep this phrase always before your eyes:

5:28 "Do not think it is an evil for you,"

5:31 “Lo! they who spread the slander are a gang among you. Deem it not a bad thing for you; nay, it is good for you. Unto every man of them (will be paid) that which he hath earned of the sin; and as for him among them who had the greater share therein, his will be an awful doom.” (24:11)

5:34 To be a foundation from which you proceed,

5:37 And the primary judgment on every disliked thing

5:40 That lands in your courtyard.

5:43 Through your deep understanding of it,

5:46 You will reach joys that are not reached by

5:49 Those who turn away from acting upon this radiant phrase.

5:52 Lighten the grief in your affliction;

5:56 If you were to look,

5:59 Your eyes would see wonders in its hidden essence.

6:02 How many a blessing has come from a misfortune,

6:05 And how much benefit has appeared in harm,

6:08 After it had passed.

6:11 The breeze of dawn in bringing happiness to mankind.
