0:02 The dawn breeze.

0:04 The dawn breeze.

0:08 The happy poor person.

0:10 In a state of miserable contemplation.

0:17 Some people are overcome with grief because they are poor.

0:21 They cannot find the wealth to attain what they desire in this life.

0:27 Their grief increases when they see their relatives, neighbors, or friends becoming wealthy.

0:33 Or when they go out to the markets or pass through streets filled with the adornments of this world.

0:40 And they find no way to obtain any of it.

0:45 In such a state, their condition becomes constricted and the world turns dark before their eyes.

0:53 This is if they do not cross the line into resenting how Allah has apportioned sustenance among His servants.

1:00 And into a lack of contentment with their Lord’s decree and destiny regarding that.

1:05 To every poor Muslim, I say:

1:09 Do not think that whoever possesses wealth possesses happiness.

1:14 Or that the rich are always happier than the poor.

1:18 Or that those with abundant wealth do not experience grief and hardship.

1:23 Rather, the truth is:

1:27 Wealth does not lead to happiness.

1:30 And poverty does not always lead to misery.

1:35 Our global reality informs us that the rate of suicide,

1:40 Resulting from hardship, is higher among the rich than among the poor.

1:46 Indeed, they have said that money is a passport;

1:51 It can take you to every place in the world,

1:56 But it cannot take you to happiness.

2:01 Hence, I say to you:

2:04 My brother, if you wish to be happy even while you are poor,

2:10 Then you must first be a believer.

2:14 For whoever has an increased level of faith,

2:17 Has an increased level of happiness.

2:20 And whoever has diminished faith,

2:22 Has their happiness diminished in proportion to that loss.

2:26 Increasing one’s balance of faith

2:29 Is the true wealth that leads to happiness.

2:33 As long as you possess the strength of faith,

2:36 You are among the wealthiest of the wealthy and the happiest of the happy.

2:41 But if a person is devoid of faith while being poor,

2:46 Then it is darkness upon darkness.

2:49 Secondly:

2:51 Exert your effort in obtaining the sustenance that suffices you.

2:55 Do not be lazy, waiting for lawful wealth

2:59 While you have not pursued its path.

3:02 If you strive on earth and wealth is not decreed for you,

3:07 Then this is the sustenance written for you.

3:10 Allah says:

3:12 “Lo! thy Lord enlargeth the provision for whom He will, and straiteneth (it for whom He will). Lo, He was ever Knower, Seer of His slaves.” (17:30)

3:17 "Indeed, He is, concerning His servants, Acquainted and Seeing."

3:22 Thirdly:

3:24 Be content with your meager sustenance,

3:26 And be satisfied with what Allah has apportioned for you of it,

3:29 You will be the wealthiest of people.

3:31 For a person’s contentment and satisfaction with what they have been given

3:35 Is true wealth and happiness.

3:38 How many a poor person is rich at heart through their contentment,

3:42 And is happy because of it.

3:44 In the hadith:

3:46 "He has succeeded who has submitted,

3:49 And has been provided with what is sufficient,

3:51 And Allah has made him content with what He has given him."

3:54 And how many a rich person is poor at heart through their greed,

3:58 And is in misery and hardship because of it.

4:02 For true wealth is the wealth of the soul, and nothing else.

4:05 Fourthly:

4:08 In matters of wealth, look at those who are below you,

4:11 And do not look at those who are above you.

4:14 For whoever looks at those below them will be satisfied and content,

4:18 And whoever looks at those above them

4:21 Will yearn and covet.

4:23 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

4:27 "Look at those who are below you,

4:30 And do not look at those who are above you,

4:34 For that is more likely to prevent you from belittling the favor of Allah upon you."

4:38 Fifthly:

4:41 Do not think that whoever obtains wealth

4:44 Becomes happy because of that wealth.

4:47 How many a person was happy during their days of poverty,

4:51 But when they became wealthy, they became miserable and depressed.

4:55 By Allah, the wealthy person who is far from Allah

4:59 Lives in severe misery.

5:02 They continue to search for happiness, moving through its apparent worldly means

5:08 In order to attain it,

5:10 But they do not find it.

5:13 So the miserable person resorts to consuming intoxicants

5:16 To escape the bitter reality they live in,

5:20 And perhaps they surrender their soul to the hands of suicide.

5:24 Sixthly:

5:26 Look at the state of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

5:31 And many of his Companions, may Allah be pleased with them.

5:35 They tasted the sweetness of happiness,

5:38 Yet they were not wealthy.

5:41 In fact, days would pass by them

5:44 While they were tying stones to their stomachs due to the intensity of hunger.

5:49 Yet, they were the happiest of the happy of this Ummah.

5:55 Seventhly:

5:56 Reflect, if you are a believer,

5:59 On the brevity of this life,

6:03 And that the bitterness of poverty will vanish when the soul departs from the body.

6:08 At that time, there is no poverty, no sadness, and no fear.

6:13 So this short life is not worth

6:17 Grieving over it with a grief

6:19 That might lead to describing Allah in a way that does not befit Him.

6:23 And in that case, a person loses the happiness of this world and the Hereafter.

6:28 Finally:

6:31 If you have your daily sustenance,

6:34 Listen well:

6:36 Just your daily sustenance,

6:38 And you are in your home, safe and healthy,

6:41 Then you are a happy king.

6:44 So how much more so if you have more than that?

6:48 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

6:52 "Whoever among you wakes up safe in his home,

6:56 Healthy in his body,

6:58 Having his daily sustenance,

7:00 It is as if the entire world has been gathered for him."

7:06 So be a believer and you will be happy,

7:10 Whether you are poor or rich.

7:14 I do not see happiness as the accumulation of wealth,

7:17 Rather, the God-fearing person is the happy one.

7:21 And the fear of Allah is the best provision to store up,

7:24 And with Allah is more for the God-fearing.
