0:16 Allah created the human soul,

0:21 and He is most knowledgeable of it and what is beneficial for it.

0:24 Thus, He revealed a legislation that suits its innate nature and brings balance to its life.

0:31 Whenever it strays from this legislation,

0:34 it wanders in the darkness of ignorance,

0:36 and its life turns into misery.

0:39 The search for happiness is a demand of all people,

0:43 yet some realize that the path to happiness

0:47 is following this great religion

0:49 which Allah has chosen for us,

0:51 so one finds happiness in the pleasure of their Lord.

0:54 Others think that religion is a source of misery and hardship in this worldly life,

0:59 so they seek happiness in the amusements of life,

1:03 drowning in them, only to find no happiness.

1:07 Islam came with a legislation that balances serious worship

1:12 with the human soul’s desires for permissible recreation.

1:16 It gave everything its due right.

1:19 Whoever implements this balance

1:21 attains the happiness of this world and the Hereafter.

1:25 It is part of the nature of women

1:27 that they enjoy recreation,

1:30 especially on beautiful occasions

1:33 such as the two Eids and wedding celebrations.

1:36 Therefore, Islam has taken this nature into account,

1:39 and permitted them the recreation that brings joy to their souls,

1:43 without crossing into the forbidden.

1:46 Anyone who follows the Prophetic biography of the Prophet, peace be upon him,

1:50 in his dealings with the nature of women,

1:52 will realize this well.

1:55 Among the examples of this

1:57 is what was narrated by ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her,

2:00 that a woman was being wedded to a man from the Ansar.

2:04 The Prophet of Allah, peace be upon him, said:

2:08 “O ‘Aishah, did you have any entertainment with you?

2:12 For the Ansar enjoy entertainment.”

2:15 Narrated by Al-Bukhari.

2:17 The occasion here in this story

2:20 is the wedding.

2:21 The nature of a wedding is joy and happiness.

2:25 The Prophet, peace be upon him, added in this hadith

2:29 that it is in the nature of the women of the Ansar to love entertainment.

2:33 Thus, several factors converged on this occasion,

2:36 all of which invite the use of entertainment

2:39 and the expression of joy and happiness.

2:41 The Prophet, peace be upon him, guided

2:44 his wife ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her,

2:46 to the importance of having that which brings joy

2:49 and makes women happy on this occasion,

2:52 through permissible recreation.

2:54 The word "entertainment" in this hadith,

2:57 or the word "singing" in other hadiths,

3:00 should be understood according to the terminology of its time

3:03 in which it was spoken,

3:05 and how it was applied in that era.

3:08 As for our current time,

3:11 although the term carries the same word,

3:14 the meaning has changed completely,

3:17 and the means and applications have changed as well.

3:21 Therefore, no one should use such hadiths as an argument

3:24 to justify falsehood,

3:26 or to declare lawful what Allah, the Almighty, has forbidden.

3:30 Ibn Al-Jawzi, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

3:33 "It was called singing

3:35 for a type of steady chanting and modulation.

3:38 Such a thing does not take one's nature out of moderation."

3:42 How can one use that which occurred in a sound time,

3:46 with pure hearts,

3:48 as an argument for these musical voices occurring in a corrupt time,

3:52 with souls possessed by whims?

3:56 This is nothing but a fallacy of understanding.

3:59 Has it not been authentically reported in the hadith

4:01 from ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, that she said:

4:05 "If the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, had seen

4:08 what women have introduced,

4:10 he would have forbidden them from the mosques."

4:13 A jurist must weigh the circumstances,

4:16 just as a doctor must weigh the time, age, and location,

4:21 and then prescribe accordingly.

4:24 And where is the singing that the Ansar spoke of on the day of Bu'ath

4:28 compared to the singing of a beardless youth, enhanced by pleasant instruments,

4:32 and a craft that draws the soul toward it,

4:35 with love poetry mentioning the gazelle and the beloved,

4:39 and the mole, the cheek, the stature, and the grace?

4:42 Can one's nature remain steady there?

4:45 Far from it!

4:46 Rather, one is stirred with longing for the pleasurable,

4:49 and no one would claim not to find that

4:52 except a liar or someone outside the bounds of humanity.

4:56 Furthermore, this recreation that the Prophet, peace be upon him, permitted,

5:01 and guided ‘Aishah, may Allah be pleased with her, to,

5:05 is only for the occasion of a wedding.

5:08 Therefore, the scholars agreed on its permissibility at a wedding feast.

5:13 Ibn Battal says:

5:15 "The scholars agreed on the permissibility of entertainment at a wedding feast,

5:19 such as beating the tambourine and the like,

5:22 as long as it is not forbidden."

5:24 The feast was specified for this so that the marriage becomes known and publicized,

5:28 thus establishing its rights and sanctity.

5:31 This type of entertainment is a characteristic of women

5:35 and is not in the nature of men.

5:38 Therefore, Ibn Hajar, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

5:41 "The strong hadiths

5:43 contain permission for this for women,

5:46 so men should not be included with them,

5:49 due to the general prohibition against imitating them."

5:52 So where is this recreation

5:53 compared to what we see today of debauchery at all times,

5:57 and on every occasion, whether legitimate or innovated,

6:01 while including forbidden things like alcohol, unveiled women,

6:06 musical instruments, and free-mixing?

6:09 So, you who fasted Ramadan and stood in its nights,

6:13 do not ruin your Eid by committing what Allah has forbidden,

6:17 for then Allah will be displeased with you.

6:20 I ask Allah to accept righteous deeds from us all,

6:24 and to make our Eid blessed for us all.

6:28 It is enough for us to rejoice in the blessing Allah bestowed upon us by allowing us to reach Ramadan,

6:33 and granting us the success to fast and pray during it.

6:36 We will continue in a future meeting, if Allah wills.

6:40 And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
