Who passed away in the year 597 AH.

Know that the greatest gateway through which Iblis enters upon people

is ignorance.

Among the ways Iblis gains access to the children of Adam

is by diverting them from knowledge,

and making them captives of ignorance,

so that he may gain power over them and deceive them,

and stir up trials and misguidance around them,

until they worship him instead of worshipping Allah,

and revere him instead of revering Allah.

The reason for this

is his mastery over them through the nets of ignorance,

which is a tree in which all evils grow,

as some of the eminent scholars have said.

It is for this reason that we have been encouraged to seek knowledge,

and Islam has urged us to pursue it and hasten toward it.

Allah the Exalted says:

“Then exalted be Allah, the True King! And hasten not (O Muhammad) with the Qur'an ere its revelation hath been perfected unto thee, and say: My Lord! Increase me in knowledge.” (20:114)

And it is authentically narrated that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said

in the most delightful hadith:

"Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim."

Fulfilling this foundational obligation

is sufficient, by the permission of Allah, to repel the ferocity of ignorance,

and to triumph over Iblis, his armies, and his whispers.

becomes a follower of Satan and his ignorances,

a soldier in the ranks of misguidance, innovation, and violation of the Shari'ah.

For Satan is not defeated by anything comparable to knowledge;

indeed, it is his arch-enemy.

He may defeat the worshippers, but he does not defeat the scholars.

He may lead the righteous astray, but he does not lead the jurists astray.

is sacred knowledge and the pursuit thereof,

Whoever learns has succeeded and triumphed,
