The splendor of knowledge and wisdom only fades

When they are sought for the sake of worldly gain.

Knowledge possesses a radiance, beauty, and dignity

That Allah clothes those who are sincere among its people with,

Those who seek it solely for the sake of His countenance,

Who are truthful in their practice of it,

And who convey it with sincerity and competence.

They maintain integrity in their delivery,

And offer sincere counsel in their mission.

Allah the Exalted said:

"So when he came to Sulayman,

He said, 'Do you provide me with wealth?

But what Allah has given me is better than what He has given you.

Rather, it is you who rejoice in your gift.'"

That splendor falls away

When knowledge is debased and worldly gain is sought through it,

And when it is used to pursue the debris of this world,

And when ornaments and luxuries are sought by means of it.

"They wish that you would compromise, so they would compromise."

“Whoso desireth the life of the world and its pomp, We shall repay them their deeds herein, and therein they will not be wronged.” (11:15)

And he is deprived of its sweetness and its fruits.

I have not fulfilled the right of knowledge if, whenever

Greed appears, I make knowledge a means for it.

And Allah is the One whose help is sought.
