0:00 In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
0:03 “Is he who payeth adoration in the watches of the night, prostrate and standing, bewaring of the Hereafter and hoping for the mercy of his Lord, (to be accounted equal with a disbeliever)? Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Are those who know equal with those who know not? But only men of understanding will pay heed.” (39:9)
0:10 The Splendor of Knowledge and Wisdom
0:16 By Dr. Hamzah Ibn Fayi' Al Fathi
0:21 May Allah preserve him.
0:26 The Virtue of Looking into the Mushaf (the physical copy of the Qur'an)
0:31 Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
0:34 He who passed away in the year 728 AH:
0:40 "I have not seen anything that nourishes the intellect and the soul,
0:43 preserves the body, and guarantees happiness,
0:46 more than constantly looking into the Book of Allah the Exalted."
0:52 This is a benefit of the Book of Allah
0:55 that only the sincere scholars truly know and savor,
0:59 such as Ibn Taymiyyah and those like him.
1:02 They engaged with the Qur'an as a book of light, insight, and development,
1:08 not merely as a source of relaxation or reward.
1:11 That is why he said, firstly, that it "nourishes the intellect,"
1:15 in that it multiplies its sharpness and alertness,
1:19 wards off its senility and misguidance,
1:21 and refines its orientation and choices,
1:24 especially since it frequently addresses the intellects
1:28 and stirs their depths toward reflection and admonition.
1:32 ﴾Indeed, in that is a lesson for those of vision.﴿
1:36 Secondly, it nourishes the soul and satisfies it,
1:40 so that it craves nothing else,
1:43 and seeks no food like its food.
1:46 Allah the Exalted said: ﴾He has succeeded who purifies it.﴿
1:50 Because it is the true nourishment for the human being,
1:54 and it suffices him against the material, physical food
1:57 over which many people fight,
2:00 while neglecting the true nourishment
2:03 of remembrance, recitation, and the gatherings of the souls.
2:07 Therefore, it is incumbent upon us all
2:10 to have a daily portion of the Qur'an
2:12 for steadfastness, sustenance, and delight.
2:15 And thirdly and fourthly:
2:19 The preservation of the body in health and strength,
2:22 and the attainment of happiness in comfort and tranquility.
2:25 For the body is protected and preserved as a result of
2:28 constant engagement with the Qur'an
2:31 and the daily habit of looking into it.
2:34 Likewise, the heart finds happiness and expansion.
2:37 “Have We not caused thy bosom to dilate,” (94:1)
2:40 “Who have believed and whose hearts have rest in the remembrance of Allah. Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest!” (13:28)
2:43 Thus, you live with physical strength,
2:46 and you savor a spiritual happiness that has no equal,
2:50 except in the Book of Allah,
2:53 through the sustainability of its recitation and contemplation.
2:56 And peace.
