0:28 For obedience to the Divine dissolves into the sweetest of feelings.

0:35 Piety (Wara').

0:40 Piety is a space of caution.

0:42 In which the believer stands before matters that are ambiguous to him regarding what is lawful and unlawful.

0:47 It is the attribute of the God-fearing.

0:50 Those who, when a doubt or suspicion arises in their souls regarding a matter,

0:54 Pause.

0:56 And say,

0:57 "Rather, we shall abandon what is harmless for fear of what is harmful."

1:01 Piety is refraining from what is harmful among the forbidden and the doubtful.

1:06 The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, summarized piety in a single phrase.

1:11 He said,

1:12 "Part of a person’s good Islam is leaving what does not concern him."

1:16 This is general, encompassing the abandonment of all that does not concern one, whether in speech or looking,

1:21 Or listening, or grasping, or walking, or thinking,

1:24 And all other outward and inward movements.

1:28 Piety is a sufficient and healing word.

1:31 The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said,

1:34 "O Abu Hurayrah,

1:36 Be pious, and you will be the most devout of people."

1:39 A servant will not attain the reality of God-consciousness (taqwa)

1:42 Until he abandons every doubt that might lead him into the unlawful without him knowing.

1:47 Thus, piety becomes his methodology in action and inaction.

1:51 Some of them said,

1:53 "We used to abandon seventy doors of the lawful,

1:56 For fear of falling into the unlawful."

1:59 Who does that now, when temptations are on every side,

2:03 And the forbidden is in every direction?

2:06 The pious are few, and the negligent are many.

2:10 Piety cannot be realized except through knowledge.

2:14 For how many people have practiced piety out of ignorance,

2:17 Making their piety like one walking down the wrong path?

2:22 Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him, mentioned

2:26 Important words on this subject.

2:29 He said,

2:30 "The perfection of piety is for a person to know the better of two good things,

2:34 And the lesser of two evils."

2:36 And to know that the Shari'ah is built upon securing and perfecting interests,

2:41 And nullifying and minimizing corruptions.

2:44 Otherwise, whoever does not weigh the Shari'ah-based benefit and

2:49 The Shari'ah-based harm in an action or omission,

2:51 May abandon obligations and commit the forbidden,

2:54 Thinking that it is piety.

2:57 Piety is among the greatest acts of worship.

3:00 The foundation of religion is piety.

3:02 The pious, ascetic jurist (faqih),

3:04 Who remains steadfast upon the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

3:08 Shall have his great reward on the Day of Judgment.

3:11 A person should place himself in the correct position regarding matters of piety.

3:16 As al-Awza'i said,

3:18 "We used to joke and laugh,

3:20 But when we became people to be emulated,

3:22 I feared that such behavior would no longer befit us."

3:25 If a person practices piety,

3:27 He will not be deprived of the lawful.

3:29 Let no one think that through piety he is depriving himself;

3:32 Rather, he is placing a step between himself and the unlawful, standing behind it.

3:37 If he steps forward, he falls into the sanctuary of the forbidden.

3:40 If he steps back, it is a safeguard for his religion and his honor.

3:49 Happiness in the hearts.

3:52 Draw ever closer to the Most Merciful,

3:57 So that joy may embrace you.

4:01 Attach your soul to your Lord,

4:04 And fill the surroundings with light.

4:08 Everyone who obeys the Divine

4:12 Dissolves into the sweetest of feelings.

4:16 For there is darkness, then light, and revelation thereafter.

4:24 If Allah wills a thing, He says to it "Be," and it is.
