0:00 In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

0:03 He is the mu'adhdhin of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

0:06 He was the first to raise the adhan in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

0:12 Which was constructed in Medina.

0:15 He continued to raise the adhan for a period of nearly ten years.

0:20 His resonant voice would ring out from atop the mosque.

0:24 His voice became linked to an era of radiance.

0:29 Of loftiness at the peak, and echoes in the ranks of glory.

0:33 A voice like the brilliance of light and lightning.

0:36 So much so that one can hardly mention the adhan of Bilal.

0:40 Without recalling the era with which it was associated.

0:44 It was the time of honor, dignity, the call to faith, and victory.

0:48 The time of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

0:52 Bilal was deeply affected by this.

0:55 He refused to call the adhan again after the passing of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

1:01 Or perhaps his soul could not bear to stand and call the adhan again.

1:06 For whenever he remembered the Beloved Chosen One.

1:10 His sorrow would surge, his eyes would well with tears, and his voice would grow hoarse.

1:16 Therefore, Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, went.

1:20 To Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him.

1:24 Saying, "O Caliph of the Messenger of Allah."

1:26 "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, say:"

1:31 "'The best deed of the believer is jihad in the cause of Allah.'"

1:35 Abu Bakr said to him:

1:37 "What is it that you desire, O Bilal?"

1:39 He replied, "I wish to remain stationed in the cause of Allah until I die."

1:45 Abu Bakr asked:

1:47 "And who will call the adhan for us?"

1:49 Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

1:51 While his eyes were overflowing with tears:

1:54 "I will not call the adhan for anyone after the Messenger of Allah."

1:58 Abu Bakr said:

1:59 "Rather, stay and call the adhan for us, O Bilal."

2:02 Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, replied:

2:05 "If you freed me to be yours,"

2:08 "Then let it be as you wish."

2:10 "But if you freed me for the sake of Allah,"

2:13 "Then leave me to the One for whom you freed me."

2:16 Abu Bakr said:

2:18 "I freed you for the sake of Allah, O Bilal."

2:21 So he traveled to the Levant, may Allah be pleased with him.

2:24 Where he remained stationed and engaged in jihad.

2:27 And after many years.

2:31 Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, saw the Prophet, peace be upon him, in his dream.

2:37 And he was saying:

2:39 "What is this estrangement, O Bilal?"

2:42 "Has the time not come for you to visit us?"

2:45 He awoke feeling sorrowful.

2:47 So he rode to Medina.

2:49 To the grave of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

2:52 He began to weep beside it and press himself against it.

2:55 Then al-Hasan and al-Husayn approached.

2:58 He began to kiss them and embrace them.

3:01 They said to him:

3:03 "We long for you to call the adhan."

3:05 So he went up to the roof of the mosque to call the adhan.

3:08 When he said:

3:11 "Allah is the Greatest,"

3:13 "Allah is the Greatest,"

3:15 Medina trembled.

3:17 When he said:

3:19 "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah,"

3:22 Its trembling increased.

3:24 When he said:

3:26 "I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,"

3:29 The Companions wept.

3:31 The Companions who had known the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, wept.

3:37 As Bilal, may Allah be pleased with him, called the adhan.

3:40 They wept as they had never wept before.

3:44 And at the time of his death, may Allah be pleased with him.

3:47 His wife was weeping beside him.

3:50 He said, "Do not weep."

3:54 "Tomorrow we shall meet the beloved ones,"

3:56 "Muhammad and his companions."
