More than one thousand four hundred years ago,

But that he was exhausted,

After a day like all his days,

And the delivery of his message.

Weary in spirit,

After having offered to the people

His character, his grace, and his kindness.

Had left a mark on the surface of his neck,

From the intensity of the Bedouin’s tug.

That the Bedouin would apologize

For what had happened,

And express regret for what occurred,

And be gentle toward the Prophet,

Seeking his pardon.

But this is not what happened.

Rather, after all of this,

He called out to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

Saying, "O Muhammad!"

While Allah says:

“Make not the calling of the messenger among you as your calling one of another. Allah knoweth those of you who steal away, hiding themselves. And let those who conspire to evade orders beware lest grief or painful punishment befall them.” (24:63)

"Do not call the Messenger among yourselves as you call one another."

Then the Bedouin demanded, saying,

"Give me from the wealth of Allah that you have."

Even in the way he asked.

Reflect upon the intense agitation

that could be stirred up

jarring actions—a violent pull

that jerked the Prophet, peace be upon him,

tore his cloak,

and left a mark upon his noble neck.

Then, a harsh, abrasive call,

and a demand made with such severity.

Contemplate and imagine:

what a fire of anger

would be enough, even for one of these,

to ignite in the heart?

So how much more so when they are all combined?

a wonder that leaves one astonished.

transcending the bounds of mere self-control.

that ascended, rose, and soared

to the horizon of Muhammadan greatness.

he did not turn away;

he did not lash out;

he acted with kindness and did not punish.

to turn truth into falsehood

we follow the example of the Messenger of Allah,
