In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Echoes of the Pulpits.
0:11
The Passing of the Messenger, peace be upon him.
0:15
A sermon by the honorable Sheikh
0:18
Khalid Ibn ‘Abdullah al-Hammudi,
0:20
may Allah preserve him.
0:22
Praise be to Allah, the One, the Unique,
0:26
the Eternal Refuge,
0:28
who neither begets nor is born.
0:30
“And there is none comparable unto Him.” (112:4)
0:33
Praise be to Allah.
0:34
Praise be to Allah, a praise that is pure, pleasant, and blessed.
0:38
A praise that cannot be bounded or numbered.
0:40
Praise be to Allah as He has commanded,
0:43
and He has promised an increase to those who are grateful.
0:47
Praise be to Allah, the Praiseworthy.
0:49
Praise be to Allah, the Glorious.
0:52
Praise be to Allah, who
0:55
is the Accomplisher of what He wills.
0:58
Praise be to Allah, and we cannot enumerate the praise due to Him;
1:02
He is as He has praised Himself.
1:04
And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone, with no partner,
1:10
the support for those who have no support,
1:13
and the refuge for those who have no refuge.
1:16
Great is the hope in Him,
1:18
Bountiful is His giving,
1:21
and He is the Repeller of calamities.
1:24
Say to the one who sleeps while sorrows choke him,
1:28
and whose anxiety in the darkness of the night torments him:
1:32
Have hope for your grieving heart,
1:35
for he has a Lord who will fill it with light and quench its thirst.
1:41
And I bear witness that our master, our Prophet, and our beloved, Muhammad, is the servant of Allah and His Messenger,
1:48
His chosen one and His intimate friend.
1:50
His Lord said of him:
1:53
"To the believers, he is kind and merciful."
1:56
He grew up an orphan,
1:58
then became a great conqueror.
2:02
He is the beloved of hearts.
2:04
He is the beloved whose praise is my honor,
2:08
and whose mention is sweet to my ears and upon my tongue.
2:12
This is Abu al-Qasim, the chosen one from Mudar.
2:17
This is the most noble of all of Allah’s servants.
2:21
This is the Chosen One, the purest of creation in character.
2:25
Exalted is He who distinguished him with virtue and generosity.
2:29
This is he without whom no obligatory act is valid,
2:32
nor is the call to prayer complete without the mention of his noble name.
2:37
He is the most noble Prophet, Muhammad.
2:40
The world was illuminated by you, so you lived glorified,
2:44
and you departed from the world, yet you remain a master.
2:48
May the peace of Allah be upon you with every heartbeat,
2:51
for all names have faded, save for Muhammad.
2:57
O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad,
3:01
as You sent prayers upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim.
3:05
Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
3:07
And bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad,
3:11
as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim,
3:15
in all the worlds; indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.
3:19
Now then, servants of Allah,
3:21
I advise you and myself to fear Allah.
3:24
“O ye who believe! Observe your duty to Allah with right observance, and die not save as those who have surrendered (unto Him)” (3:102)
3:28
“O ye who believe! Observe your duty to Allah with right observance, and die not save as those who have surrendered (unto Him)” (3:102)
3:31
Servants of Allah, O noble ones,
3:35
although calamities may be numerous,
3:39
and trials may take many forms for this wounded and blessed Ummah,
3:44
yet there is one greater tragedy,
3:49
and a more momentous affliction,
3:51
that will remain etched in the record of this Ummah’s sorrows.
3:56
A catastrophe for which there is no consolation,
3:59
and which history can never forget.
4:02
It is the tragedy of the Muslims in the loss of their Prophet,
4:07
peace be upon him.
4:10
His passing, peace be upon him, was
4:14
the greatest event to befall the Muslims.
4:17
It stunned their minds,
4:19
shook their foundations,
4:21
and bewildered their understanding.
4:23
So, servants of Allah,
4:25
let us live through those moments
4:28
in which the Chosen One,
4:30
peace be upon him, bade farewell to this world,
4:34
this transient abode.
4:36
Perhaps it will shake the dust of heedlessness from our hearts,
4:39
and perhaps it will be a solace for those afflicted,
4:44
who have lost their loved ones.
4:46
For whoever finds his calamity great,
4:49
let him remember the calamity of the Muslims
4:53
in the death of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
4:58
For before the death of the noble Prophet,
5:00
peace be upon him,
5:03
three days before his passing,
5:06
the pain began to intensify upon him.
5:08
He was in the house of our mother Maymunah,
5:11
so he gathered his wives,
5:15
and the Prophet, peace be upon him, said:
5:19
"Do you permit me
5:21
to be nursed in the house of ‘A’ishah?"
5:23
They all replied,
5:25
"We permit you, O Messenger of Allah."
5:28
He tried to stand,
5:29
but he could not.
5:31
Then ‘Ali Ibn Abi Talib came,
5:33
along with al-Fadl Ibn al-‘Abbas,
5:35
and they carried the Prophet, peace be upon him,
5:39
and brought him out from the chamber of Maymunah
5:42
to the chamber of ‘A’ishah.
5:44
The Companions saw him in this state
5:47
for the first time,
5:48
and the Companions began
5:50
to ask in panic:
5:51
"What has happened to the Messenger of Allah?"
5:57
People gathered in the mosque,
5:59
and it became full,
6:00
and people crowded around him.
6:02
Then sweat began
6:03
to pour from the Prophet, peace be upon him,
6:07
profusely.
6:08
‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said:
6:11
"I have never seen anyone in my life
6:14
sweat like this."
6:18
I would take the hand of the Prophet,
6:21
and I would recite and blow upon it,
6:22
and wipe his face with his own hand,
6:26
because the hand of the Prophet was more noble and purer than mine.
6:30
And I heard him saying:
6:32
"There is no god but Allah;
6:35
indeed, death has its agonies."
6:38
The commotion in the mosque increased
6:40
out of compassion for the Messenger,
6:42
peace be upon him.
6:44
So he, peace be upon him, said:
6:46
"What is this?"
6:48
They said, "O Messenger of Allah,
6:50
we are afraid for you."
6:51
He said, "Carry me to them."
6:54
He tried to stand,
6:55
but he could not.
6:57
So they poured seven skins of water over him
7:00
so that he might regain his strength.
7:01
Then the Prophet, peace be upon him, was carried,
7:05
and he ascended the pulpit.
7:06
This was the last sermon of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
7:12
and his final words.
7:14
He said, may my father and mother be sacrificed for him, peace be upon him:
7:19
"O people,
7:20
it is as if you fear for me."
7:22
They said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah."
7:25
He said, "O people,
7:27
your appointment with me
7:28
is not in this world;
7:30
your appointment with me is at the Basin.
7:32
And by Allah, I can see it
7:35
from this very spot.
7:37
O people,
7:39
fear Allah regarding prayer!
7:42
Fear Allah regarding prayer!
7:44
O people,
7:46
fear Allah regarding women!
7:48
Fear Allah regarding women!
7:50
I enjoin you to treat women well.
7:53
O people,
7:54
a servant whom Allah gave a choice
7:57
between this world
7:59
and what is with Allah,
8:01
he chose what is with Allah."
8:03
Abu Bakr burst into tears,
8:05
and his wailing grew loud.
8:07
He stood up,
8:08
interrupted the Prophet,
8:10
and said, "O Messenger of Allah,
8:12
may our fathers be sacrificed for you,
8:14
may our mothers be sacrificed for you,
8:16
may our children be sacrificed for you,
8:19
and our spouses,
8:20
and may our wealth be sacrificed for you!"
8:22
He kept repeating it.
8:24
The people looked at Abu Bakr,
8:27
wondering how he could interrupt the Prophet.
8:29
So the Prophet, peace be upon him, began
8:32
to defend Abu Bakr, saying:
8:35
"O people,
8:37
leave Abu Bakr alone!
8:38
Leave Abu Bakr alone!
8:40
“And not one of you could have held Us off from him.” (69:47)
8:42
There was no one who showed us kindness
8:44
but that we rewarded him for it,
8:46
except for Abu Bakr;
8:48
I could not reward him,
8:50
so I left his reward to Allah.
8:53
All doors
8:55
leading to the mosque shall be closed,
8:57
except for the door of Abu Bakr;
8:59
it shall never be closed."
9:02
He was carried back to his house.
9:05
While he was there,
9:07
‘Abd al-Rahman Ibn Abi Bakr entered upon him,
9:10
and in his hand was a siwak.
9:11
The Prophet, peace be upon him, kept
9:14
looking at the siwak,
9:16
but he could not ask for it
9:19
due to the severity of his illness.
9:21
‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, understood
9:23
from the Prophet’s gaze
9:25
He wanted the siwak.
9:27
I took the siwak from ‘Abd al-Rahman,
9:30
and placed it in the mouth of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
9:35
He was unable to use it,
9:38
so I took it from the Prophet,
9:40
and began to soften it with my mouth,
9:43
then returned it to the Prophet once more,
9:46
so that it would be soft for him.
9:48
She said, "The last thing
9:51
that entered the Prophet’s body
9:53
was my saliva."
9:55
It was among the favors of Allah upon her
9:57
that He joined my saliva with the saliva of the Prophet
10:00
before he passed away.
10:02
Then Fatimah entered,
10:04
the daughter of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
10:07
When she entered, she wept,
10:09
because
10:13
then Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet, peace be upon him, entered.
10:18
When she entered, she wept,
10:20
because the Prophet, peace be upon him,
10:23
could not stand up,
10:25
for whenever he saw her,
10:28
he would stand for her,
10:29
and kiss her between her eyes.
10:31
But this time,
10:33
he could not stand,
10:35
so she wept, may Allah be pleased with her.
10:37
He said, "O Fatimah,
10:39
come close to me."
10:40
The Prophet whispered to her in her ear,
10:42
and she wept.
10:43
When she wept,
10:45
the Prophet, peace be upon him, said to her,
10:48
"O Fatimah,
10:49
come close to me."
10:50
He whispered to her once more
10:52
in her ear, and she laughed.
10:54
After the death of the Prophet, peace be upon him,
10:58
she was asked, may Allah be pleased with her,
11:00
"What did the Prophet say to you?"
11:02
She said,
11:03
"He said to me the first time,
11:05
'O Fatimah,
11:07
I will pass away tonight,'
11:09
so I wept.
11:10
When he saw me weeping,
11:12
he said, 'O Fatimah,
11:13
you are the first of my family
11:15
to join me,'
11:16
so I laughed,
11:17
for I knew that..."
11:19
‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, says,
11:21
"The Prophet’s hand fell,
11:23
and his head grew heavy on my chest,
11:25
and I knew that he had passed away.
11:27
I did not know what to do,
11:29
so I did nothing
11:31
but leave my chamber,
11:33
and open the door
11:34
that overlooked the men in the mosque,
11:37
and I cried out,
11:38
'The Messenger of Allah has died!
11:40
The Messenger of Allah has died!'
11:42
She says the mosque erupted in weeping.
11:45
There was ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib,
11:47
sitting,
11:48
unable to move.
11:50
And there was ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan,
11:52
like a child,
11:53
being led by the hand,
11:54
this way and that.
11:56
And there was ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab,
11:58
raising his sword and saying,
12:00
'Whoever says that Muhammad has died,
12:03
I will cut off his head!
12:04
He has gone to meet his Lord,
12:07
just as Musa went
12:08
to meet his Lord,
12:10
and he will return,
12:11
and I will kill anyone who says he has died.'
12:14
As for the most steadfast of the people,
12:16
it was Abu Bakr al-Siddiq,
12:18
may Allah be pleased with him and grant him satisfaction.
12:20
He entered upon the Prophet, peace be upon him,
12:24
embraced him, kissed him between his eyes,
12:27
and said, 'You were pure in life and in death, O Messenger of Allah.'
12:31
Then he went out saying,
12:33
'Whoever worshipped Muhammad,
12:35
then Muhammad has indeed died,
12:37
and whoever worshipped Allah,
12:39
then Allah is Ever-Living and does not die.'
12:42
Then he recited the words of Allah:
12:44
“Muhammad is but a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) have passed away before him. Will it be that, when he dieth or is slain, ye will turn back on your heels? He who turneth back on his heels doth no hurt to Allah, and Allah will reward the thankful.” (3:144)
12:46
﴾Messengers have passed on before him...﴿
12:48
“Muhammad is but a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) have passed away before him. Will it be that, when he dieth or is slain, ye will turn back on your heels? He who turneth back on his heels doth no hurt to Allah, and Allah will reward the thankful.” (3:144)
12:50
﴾...if you turn back on your heels...﴿
12:53
“Muhammad is but a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) have passed away before him. Will it be that, when he dieth or is slain, ye will turn back on your heels? He who turneth back on his heels doth no hurt to Allah, and Allah will reward the thankful.” (3:144)
12:55
“Muhammad is but a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) have passed away before him. Will it be that, when he dieth or is slain, ye will turn back on your heels? He who turneth back on his heels doth no hurt to Allah, and Allah will reward the thankful.” (3:144)
12:58
﴾...and Allah will reward the grateful.﴿
13:00
O Allah, send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad.
13:04
O Allah, just as You deprived us of seeing him in this world,
13:07
gather us with him in the Gardens of Bliss.
13:10
And reward him on our behalf
13:11
with the best reward You have ever given a prophet for his Ummah.
13:15
O Allah, Amen.
13:16
May Allah bless me and you through the Great Qur'an,
13:19
and benefit me and you with the verses and wise reminder it contains.
13:23
I say what you hear here,
13:24
and I seek Allah's forgiveness for myself and for you, so seek His forgiveness,
13:27
for how successful are those who seek forgiveness.
13:31
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds,
13:33
Lord of the good.
13:35
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner,
13:39
and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,
13:45
may Allah send prayers and peace upon him.
13:47
And now, servants of Allah,
13:48
the Prophet Muhammad has died,
13:51
but his Sunnah has not died.
13:53
The Prophet, peace be upon him, has died,
13:56
but his call has not died.
13:57
So the Sunnah, the Sunnah, O servants of Allah!
13:59
Hold fast to it and bite onto it with your molars.
14:03
And the call, the call! Be callers through your character and your beautiful, gentle, pure, and refined conduct.
14:13
He, peace be upon him, said:
14:16
"All of you will enter Paradise except those who refuse."
14:19
They said, "And who would refuse, O Messenger of Allah?"
14:22
He said, "Whoever obeys me enters Paradise,
14:24
and whoever disobeys me has refused."
14:27
Do you not wish, O servants of Allah,
14:29
do you not wish to drink from the hand of the Prophet, peace be upon him, at the Basin?
14:36
Listen to this hadith:
14:38
He, peace be upon him, said:
14:40
"I am your forerunner at the Basin.
14:42
Whoever passes by me will drink,
14:45
and whoever drinks will never thirst again.
14:48
People will come to me
14:50
whom I recognize and who recognize me,
14:52
then a barrier will be placed between me and them.
14:54
I will say, 'O Lord,
14:56
my Ummah, my Ummah!'
14:57
And in one narration, I will say, 'O Lord,
15:00
they are from me.'
15:01
It will be said,
15:02
'You do not know what they innovated after you.'
15:06
So I will say, 'Away, away
15:08
with those who changed things after me.'"
15:10
Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
15:13
This is the Messenger of Allah,
15:15
the merciful to his Ummah,
15:17
the one who feared and worried for them,
15:19
the one who longed for them.
15:21
So follow his Sunnah,
15:22
call others to it,
15:24
defend it,
15:25
and be among its people.
15:27
Frequently remember him,
15:28
and send prayers and peace upon him.
15:31
Send prayers upon the one who sat on his knees
15:34
to console a child whose bird had died.
15:37
Send prayers upon the one who summarized love by saying,
15:41
"Do not hurt me regarding ‘A’ishah."
15:43
Send prayers upon the one who visited a sick Jewish man
15:46
who had stopped bothering him for a day.
15:49
Send prayers upon the one who will call out on the Day of Resurrection,
15:52
"My Ummah, my Ummah!"
15:54
Send prayers upon the one who wept out of longing to see us.
15:57
O Allah, send prayers and peace
15:59
upon the servant of Allah and His Messenger,
16:02
His Prophet, His chosen one, His beloved, His confidant, and His favorite,
16:07
and the best of His creation.
16:08
O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad,
16:11
who guided us to You,
16:12
directed us to You,
16:14
and led us to You.
16:16
We bear witness,
16:17
we bear witness that he delivered the message,
16:19
fulfilled the trust,
16:21
gave sincere counsel to the Ummah,
16:22
and through him, Allah Almighty removed the distress.
16:25
He strove for the sake of Allah as he ought to be striven for,
16:27
until certainty came to him.
16:29
So, O Lord,
16:30
we ask You by Your Most Beautiful Names,
16:32
Your Exalted Attributes,
16:34
and Your Greatest Name,
16:35
that just as You deprived us of seeing him in this world,
16:38
You gather us with him in the Gardens of Bliss,
16:40
and reward him on our behalf
16:42
with the best reward You have ever given a prophet for his Ummah.
16:45
O Allah, O Ever-Living, O Sustainer,
16:47
O Possessor of Majesty and Honor,
16:49
make us among those who follow his Sunnah,
16:51
among those who call to it,
16:53
and among those who defend it.
16:55
O Allah, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor,
16:58
grant us from his noble hand
17:00
a drink that is pleasant and satisfying,
17:02
after which we will never thirst again.
17:05
O Allah, forgive our sins,
17:06
conceal our faults,
17:08
accept our repentance, and end our deeds with righteousness.
17:11
O Allah, we love You.
17:12
So do not withhold Your bounty from us on account of our sins.
17:15
Make our deeds righteous, sincere, and truthful.
17:19
Do not let anyone else have any share or portion in them.
17:22
O Allah, purify our hearts from hypocrisy.
17:24
And our deeds from showing off.
17:26
And our tongues from falsehood.
17:28
And our eyes from treachery.
17:30
For You know the treachery of the eyes and what the hearts conceal.
17:33
O Allah, grant us security in our homelands.
17:35
And rectify our leaders and those in authority over us.
17:38
O Allah, support our leader with the truth.
17:40
And his Crown Prince.
17:42
O Allah, grant victory to our soldiers at the borders.
17:44
O Allah, grant victory to our oppressed brothers everywhere.
17:48
O Lord.
17:48
We have called upon You as You commanded us.
17:50
So answer us as You promised us.
17:52
And do not deprive us of the best of what You have.
17:54
Because of the worst of what we have.
17:56
“Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him)” (37:180)
17:59
And peace be upon the messengers.
18:00
And praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
