You have fed, provided drink, sufficed, enriched, and guided.

In every circumstance, O Responder to those who call.

And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner.

“All that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth glorifieth Allah; unto Him belongeth Sovereignty and unto Him belongeth praise, and He is Able to do all things.” (64:1)

His chosen one and His intimate friend.

He would visit the sick,

And call upon the poor.

He grew up an orphan,

Until he became a great conqueror.

He is the full moon of perfection,

And the intercessor for creation on the Day of Gathering.

He is the chosen Prophet,

And the selected Messenger.

The most merciful of people toward people.

You are the beloved, and what love could ever ascend

To the station of your love, my master, and its heights?

May Allah send blessings upon you as long as speech is uttered

Throughout the passage of time; how magnificent you are.

O Allah, send blessings, peace, increase, and grace

Upon Your servant, Messenger, Prophet, and beloved, Muhammad,

And upon his noble and blessed Companions,

And grant them abundant peace until the Day of Judgment.

I advise you and myself to fear Allah.

“Then, when they have reached their term, take them back in kindness or part from them in kindness, and call to witness two just men among you, and keep your testimony upright for Allah. Whoso believeth in Allah and the Last Day is exhorted to act thus. And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah, Allah will appoint a way out for him,” (65:2)

“And will provide for him from (a quarter) whence he hath no expectation. And whosoever putteth his trust in Allah, He will suffice him. Lo! Allah bringeth His command to pass. Allah hath set a measure for all things.” (65:3)

Our talk today concerns two brief reflections.

Each reflection requires many pauses for thought.

Yet it is an admonition and a reminder,

And the reminder benefits the believers.

Our first reflection

Is on the arrival of the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah.

For in two or three days,

We will welcome the best days of the world,

Due to the virtues they contain,

And the merits and matters they encompass.

For this reason,

The scholars and the virtuous

Would compete in them in deeds of righteousness and benevolence.

Among what indicates their virtue and nobility

Is what has been narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both),

That the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

"There are no days

In which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah

Than these days,"

Meaning the ten days.

They asked, "O Messenger of Allah,

Not even jihad in the way of Allah?"

He said, "Not even jihad in the way of Allah,

Except for a man who goes out with his soul and his wealth,

And does not return with anything of that."

It is sufficient for their virtue and nobility

That Allah swore by them,

And He, glory be to Him,

Does not swear except by something great among His creation.

He, the Almighty, said:

﴿By the dawn, and by the ten nights.﴾

We ask Allah for success in them for every deed He loves and is pleased with.

These days include

A great day,

Which is the Day of Arafah.

And what can make you know what the Day of Arafah is?

The pilgrims gather in it

From all parts of the world,

And every corner of the earth.

They wear one attire,

They chant one call (talbiyah),

And they call upon one Lord.

It is the day of emancipation from the Fire.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

"There is no day

In which

Allah emancipates more servants from the Fire

Than the Day of Arafah."

And He draws near; He draws near and boasts of them to the angels,

And says,

"What do these people want?"

It is recommended for those who are not performing Hajj

To fast on that day,

For fasting it expiates two years.

Also, O servants of Allah,

It is recommended during the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah

To perform the absolute takbir (saying 'Allahu Akbar'),

Which is prescribed from the first day of the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah

We ask Allah to make us among the people of the Qur'an.

For one who intends to offer a sacrifice

And benevolence,

And charity,

And maintaining ties of kinship,

And piety,

And reading the Qur'an,

And supererogatory acts of worship

During the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah,

Is more precious to Allah

Than pure gold.

To forgiveness from your Lord and a Paradise

Whose width is the heavens and the earth,

Prepared for the righteous.

May Allah bless me and you with the Great Qur'an,

And benefit me and you with the verses and the wise reminder it contains.

I say what you hear, and I ask Allah for forgiveness for me and for you, so seek His forgiveness,

Is from the scorching breath of Hell.

We seek refuge in Allah from the Fire,

As the Prophet (peace be upon him) informed us:

"The Fire complained to its Lord, saying, 'O Lord,

Some parts of me are consuming others.'

So Allah permitted it two breaths:

A breath in the summer,

And a breath in the winter.

So the heat you find in summer

Is from the heat of Hell,

And that which you experience of the winter's cold

is from the bitter chill of Hell.

So we say, in the face of this heat:

Praise be to Allah.

Yes, praise be to Allah,

that it is heat and not war.

Praise be to Allah that it is heat,

and not an earthquake.

Praise be to Allah that it is heat,

and not displacement.

Praise be to Allah that it is heat,

and not a total lack of security and safety.

and not hunger and famine.

Praise be to Allah, for although a person feels thirsty,

we have water, and cold water at that.

and we have cars equipped with air conditioning.

and we have homes with cool air,

and shade in which we take shelter,

and by which we protect ourselves from this heat.

Do you see, O servants of Allah,

how great the blessings of Allah upon us are?

Abu Ya'la narrated in his Musnad,

from the hadith of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him,

that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

"There is nothing more beloved to Allah than praise."

So praise Allah, O servants of Allah, in every circumstance,

and pray for your brothers

who do not possess the blessings that you possess,

and the great goodness.

And ask Allah in this heat

to protect us from the heat of Hell.

For whoever seeks refuge from the Fire three times,

"O Allah, grant him refuge from the Fire."

and we seek refuge in You from Your wrath and from the Fire.

“Glorified be thy Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they attribute (unto Him)” (37:180)
