0:08 of the Surahs of the Noble Qur'an"

0:11 by Dr. Muhammad Ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz Ibn 'Umar Nasif,

0:15 may Allah preserve him.

0:17 Surah Al-Bayyinah.

0:20 In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

0:22 Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

0:24 May blessings and peace be upon the Seal of the Prophets and Messengers,

0:27 and upon his family and all his Companions.

0:29 We continue with the profile cards—

0:32 with our gentle commentary on the profile cards—

0:35 and by the grace of Allah, we have reached Surah Al-Bayyinah.

0:38 I have three reflections regarding it.

0:40 The first reflection concerns the word "al-Bayyinah" (the Clear Proof),

0:43 after which the Surah is named.

0:44 In the Surah, as is evident,

0:48 it refers to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

0:52 "Those who disbelieved

0:54 from among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be parted [from their disbelief]

0:56 until there came to them clear proof:

0:58 A Messenger from Allah, reciting purified scriptures."

1:01 Thus, the Messenger, peace be upon him,

1:05 is the clear proof (al-Bayyinah)—

1:07 that is, the manifest evidence.

1:09 Whoever contemplates the life and state of the Prophet, peace be upon him,

1:14 will surely know that he is the Messenger of Allah.

1:17 The verse mentions a specific circumstance

1:22 in which his prophethood is manifested

1:26 and his truthfulness becomes evident,

1:30 as it says: "A Messenger from Allah, reciting purified scriptures."

1:34 Contemplating the Prophet's Seerah (peace be upon him)

1:37 and his general circumstances,

1:39 and meditating on the Qur'an which he brought

1:42 and practiced—for his character was the Qur'an—

1:45 in particular, inevitably leads a person to the truth.

1:50 As for the second reflection,

1:54 it relates to Allah's statement:

1:56 “Those who disbelieve among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters could not have left off (erring) till the clear proof came unto them,” (98:1)

1:59 "...and the polytheists were not to be parted [from disbelief] until there came to them clear proof."

2:02 Then He said: "Nor did those who were given the Scripture divide..."

2:04 “Nor were the People of the Scripture divided until after the clear proof came unto them.” (98:4)

2:07 If the Prophet, peace be upon him,

2:09 is the clear proof,

2:12 then why do people divide?

2:14 Is not the manifestation of truth

2:16 sufficient for people to follow it?

2:18 No,

2:19 it is not sufficient,

2:21 contrary to what is commonly assumed,

2:24 or contrary to those who think

2:28 that the mere appearance of the truth

2:30 is enough to make people follow it.

2:34 Rather, the reality is quite the opposite,

2:37 as is evident in the stories of the Prophets.

2:39 Clearly, Abraham

2:41 was cast into the fire,

2:43 and yet

2:45 none of his people believed except Lot

2:48 and his wife—and perhaps she believed before

2:50 he was cast into the fire.

2:52 This clear sign was not enough for them.

2:57 Moses, when he threw his staff

2:59 and neutralized the sorcerers' plot,

3:01 the sorcerers believed, but

3:03 vast multitudes were with them—

3:06 gathered together along with Pharaoh

3:08 and his soldiers—

3:10 and none of these believed.

3:12 Thus, we must understand

3:14 that the emergence of clear proof

3:16 does not mean that people will automatically follow the truth.

3:18 Clear proof is always manifest

3:20 and plain;

3:24 therefore, whoever wishes to follow the clear proof

3:26 must seek out the inner motivation

3:28 that prompts one to follow it.

3:30 This is what is indicated—

3:32 and Allah knows best—in the final verse

3:34 of the Surah, after mentioning

3:36 the believers and what He promised them

3:38 of the Gardens of Delight:

3:40 "That is for whoever has feared his Lord."

3:42 Thus, whoever fears his Lord

3:45 will follow the truth,

3:48 and whoever does not fear his Lord

3:50 will follow his desires.

3:52 "And as for him who feared the position of his Lord

3:54 and prevented the soul from unlawful inclination..."

3:56 “Lo! the Garden will be his home.” (79:41)

3:58 So the Surah points

4:00 to the clear proof and the division of people

4:02 after the clear proof has arrived, highlighting

4:04 the quality found in those who followed

4:06 the clear proof and believed:

4:08 namely, that they fear their Lord.

4:11 There remains the third reflection,

4:13 which is

4:15 the final fate of people

4:18 after their divergence regarding the clear proof.

4:20 For those

4:22 who follow

4:24 the clear proof

4:26 are the best of creation,

4:29 whereas those who reject

4:31 the clear proof—

4:34 they are, as Allah said:

4:36 "...they are the worst of creatures."

4:38 "Indeed, they who disbelieved from among

4:41 the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire

4:43 of Hell, abiding eternally therein;

4:45 those are the worst of creatures."

4:47 I ask Allah to grant us success in doing

4:51 what He loves and is pleased with.

4:53 May there be benefit in these words,

4:55 even if brief.

4:57 I ask Allah for success.

4:59 And Allah knows best. May Allah send blessings and peace

5:01 upon His servant Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.

5:03 Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
