0:42 may Allah preserve him.

0:44 Surah al-Mutaffifin.

0:46 In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

0:48 All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings

0:50 be upon the Messenger of Allah,

0:52 and upon his family, his Companions, and those who follow his guidance.

0:55 We are still with the brief commentary

0:58 on the ID cards,

1:00 and with Surah al-Mutaffifin.

1:02 I have three points to highlight regarding it.

1:04 The first point concerns the placement of the surah.

1:06 We notice that it is preceded by al-Takwir and al-Infitar,

1:09 and followed

1:11 by al-Inshiqaq as well.

1:13 I mean that it is preceded

1:15 and followed by surahs that speak about the Day of Resurrection.

1:20 Likewise,

1:22 mention of that great Day appears in this surah.

1:25 However, we notice that each surah is distinguished by a particular emphasis.

1:28 Among the unique features of this surah

1:31 is the mention of mankind standing before the Lord of the worlds,

1:35 which is a monumental matter that brings us to the second point.

1:39 This second point is that remembering mankind's standing before the Lord of the worlds—

1:44 and remembering the events of the Hereafter in general—

1:48 ought to be a positive remembrance,

1:52 meaning it must have an impact on one's behavior.

1:56 Remembering mankind's standing before the Lord of the worlds is not

2:01 something a person simply recalls

2:05 merely to feel fear,

2:08 or merely to hope,

2:10 but rather to act and be deterred from sin.

2:13 We observe that those who engaged in defrauding others in measure—

2:17 their problem was the absence of this reality from their minds.

2:20 Thus, when this reality is present,

2:23 it ought to reform a person's behavior in this worldly life,

2:29 in preparation for that reality

2:32 when its time comes in the Hereafter.

2:35 This leads us to the third point.

2:38 For indeed, the Companions—

2:40 and this relates to the context of revelation—

2:42 who were in Madinah, Ibn 'Abbas says about them,

2:45 and regarding the residents of Madinah he says:

2:47 "When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, arrived in

2:49 Madinah, they were among the worst of people in weighing and measuring.

2:53 So Allah, Blessed and Exalted, revealed: ◁ Woe to those who give less [than due] ▷,

2:58 and they gave good measure after that."

3:01 Notice that Allah, Glorified and Exalted, warned against a disease,

3:04 namely defrauding in measure—which is a disease,

3:07 as all sins are truly diseases.

3:10 And He mentioned the cause of the disease, saying:

3:13 ◁ Do such people not think that they will be resurrected for a tremendous Day? ▷

3:16 “The day when (all) mankind stand before the Lord of the Worlds?” (83:6)

3:19 So it was as if when they remembered this Day,

3:23 that occurred which he indicated at the end of the hadith:

3:26 "And they gave good measure after that."

3:28 Now we know that bad social

3:31 habits,

3:33 once they spread and a town becomes known for them,

3:35 are difficult to change.

3:37 In truth, nothing changes them except faith.

3:41 Here I conclude with a story

3:43 mentioned about a godly scholar,

3:47 whose biography was recorded by scholars

3:49 roughly in the last century

3:51 or the one before it.

3:52 He was in the land of India, and his name was Ahmad 'Irfan.

3:55 Read his biography.

3:56 He entered a town where alcohol was widespread,

4:00 and there were alcohol factories in it

4:02 in India.

4:03 The population numbered four million,

4:07 as I recall reading the story long ago.

4:09 Sheikh al-Tantawi, may Allah have mercy on him, wrote about him.

4:12 The amazing thing is that within a short period,

4:15 by strengthening the faith of the people of this town,

4:17 the alcohol factories closed their doors,

4:20 because they found no one to buy from them.

4:23 Faith is what changes things,

4:26 or rather it is what reforms whatever has become corrupt in societies.

4:31 And the greatest thing that strengthens faith

4:33 is the Qur'an, which influenced the residents of Madinah

4:36 so that "they gave good measure after that."

4:38 We ask Allah to make us among those who benefit

4:42 from this Magnificent Qur'an.

4:43 May Allah bless him and grant him peace,

4:44 and may the mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you.

4:45 And may the mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you.

4:46 May Allah bestow blessings and peace upon him and all his Companions.

4:47 And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
