0:04 The life of the righteous lies between speech and action.

0:11 The terrors of the Day of Resurrection and the Reckoning.

0:15 'Abdullah Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

0:20 "The wicked will be bridled by their sweat on the Day of Resurrection before the Reckoning begins."

0:27 He was asked, "Where will the believers be?"

0:30 He replied, "On chairs, shaded by clouds."

0:36 "The length of that day will seem to them no longer than the time between two prayers in a single day."

0:42 Al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding the word of Allah:

0:46 “(And it will be said unto him): Read thy Book. Thy soul sufficeth as reckoner against thee this day.” (17:14)

0:50 "Every human being has a collar around his neck,"

0:54 "In which a copy of his deeds is inscribed."

0:56 "When he dies, it is folded up."

0:59 "And when he is resurrected, it is unfolded for him."

1:02 It is said: ﴾Read your record; sufficient is yourself against you this Day as accountant.﴿

1:09 O son of Adam, your Creator has been just to you;

1:13 He has made you the accountant of your own self.

1:16 Paradise and its delights.

1:21 Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said:

1:26 "When the people of Paradise settle in,"

1:29 "The light of the ceilings of their dwellings will be the light of His Throne."

1:32 He also said (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding:

1:35 ﴾And shade extended,﴿

1:37 "It is a tree in Paradise upon a single trunk,"

1:40 "The shade of which a swift rider could travel under,"

1:44 "For a hundred years in all its directions."

1:47 He said, "The people of Paradise will go out to it,"

1:51 "The inhabitants of the chambers and others,"

1:54 "And they will converse in its shade."

1:57 "Some of them will desire,"

1:59 "And recall the amusements of the world,"

2:02 "So Allah will send a breeze from Paradise,"

2:05 "Which will stir that tree with every amusement that existed in the world."

2:10 He also said (may Allah be pleased with them both):

2:13 "The palm trees of Paradise,"

2:15 "Their trunks are of green emerald,"

2:18 "Their spathes are of red gold,"

2:21 "And their fronds are the clothing of the people of Paradise,"

2:24 "From which their garments and finery are made."

2:28 He also said (may Allah be pleased with them both):

2:32 "A pomegranate from the pomegranates of Paradise,"

2:35 "Many people will gather around it, eating from it,"

2:40 "And if one of them thinks of something he desires,"

2:44 "He will find it right where his hand is, as he eats."

2:48 Al-Bara' Ibn 'Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding this verse:

2:53 ﴾And its fruit will be low and easy to reach.﴿

2:56 He said, "They will pick them while they are lying down, while they are sitting,"

3:02 "And in whatever state they wish."

3:06 Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said regarding the words of the Almighty:

3:10 ﴾Indeed, We have granted you al-Kawthar.﴿

3:14 He said, "Al-Kawthar is a river in Paradise,"

3:18 "Its banks are of hollow gold,"

3:21 "Its bed is of pearls and jacinth,"

3:24 "Its water is whiter than snow,"

3:27 "And sweeter than honey,"

3:30 "Its soil is more fragrant than the scent of musk."

3:34 Anas Ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

3:38 "Perhaps you think the rivers of Paradise are trenches in the earth?"

3:43 "No, by Allah!"

3:45 "They flow upon the surface of the earth,"

3:48 "One of their banks is of pearl,"

3:51 "And the other is of jacinth,"

3:53 "And their mud is of pure, pungent musk."

3:56 It was asked, "What is 'pungent'?"

3:59 He said, "That which has no mixture in it."

4:02 He also said (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the words of the Almighty:

4:08 ﴾In both of them are two springs gushing forth.﴿

4:11 He said, "With musk and ambergris,"

4:15 "They will sprinkle upon the houses of the people of Paradise,"

4:18 "Just as rain sprinkles upon the houses of the people of the world."

4:22 He also said (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the words of the Almighty:

4:26 ﴾And with Us is more.﴿

4:28 He said, "He will manifest Himself to them every Friday."

4:33 Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said,

4:36 While he was delivering a sermon on the pulpit of Basra:

4:39 "Allah the Almighty will send an angel to the people of Paradise on the Day of Resurrection,"

4:45 "And he will say,"

4:47 "O people of Paradise,"

4:49 "Has Allah fulfilled for you what He promised you?"

4:52 "They will look and see the ornaments and garments,"

4:56 "And the fruits and rivers,"

4:58 "And the purified spouses,"

5:00 "And they will say,"

5:02 "Yes, He has fulfilled what He promised us."

5:05 "Then the angel will say,"

5:08 "Has Allah fulfilled for you what He promised you?"

5:11 "Three times,"

5:13 "And they will not find anything missing from what they were promised,"

5:17 "And they will say,"

5:18 "Yes."

5:19 "Then he will say,"

5:21 "There remains one thing for you,"

5:23 "Allah the Almighty says,"

5:26 “For those who do good is the best (reward) and more (thereto). Neither dust nor ignominy cometh near their faces. Such are rightful owners of the Garden; they will abide therein.” (10:26)

5:29 "Indeed, the 'best reward' is Paradise,"

5:32 "And the 'increase' is the gazing upon His Noble Countenance."

5:36 'Abdullah Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said:

5:41 "A cluster of grapes, meaning in Paradise,"

5:44 "Is further than the distance to San'a,"

5:46 "And it is in 'Uman in the Levant."

5:49 Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding the words of the Almighty:

5:53 ﴾And its fruit will be made low in humility.﴿

5:57 "If he stands, it will rise,"

5:59 "And if he sits,"

6:01 "It will hang down until he can reach it,"

6:04 "And if he lies down, it will hang down,"

6:06 "That is its humility."

6:09 He also said (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding the words of the Almighty:

6:14 “Fair ones, close-guarded in pavilions -” (55:72)

6:17 He said,

6:19 "Their souls, their gazes, and their hearts,"

6:22 "Are restrained for their spouses,"

6:25 "They desire no one else,"

6:27 "In tents of pearl."

6:29 Ad-Dahhak (may Allah have mercy on him) said regarding the words of the Almighty:

6:34 “Those are they who are in truth believers. For them are grades (of honour) with their Lord, and pardon, and a bountiful provision.” (8:4)

6:37 He said,

6:39 "Some of them are better than others,"

6:41 "And the one who has been favored with a virtue will see it,"

6:44 "While the one who is below him will not see,"

6:46 "That anyone among the people has been favored over him."

6:50 Az-Zuhri (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

6:54 "The language of the people of Paradise is Arabic."

6:57 The Fire and its torment.

7:02 Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said regarding:

7:08 “For those who disbelieve and debar (men) from the way of Allah, We add doom to doom because they wrought corruption,” (16:88)

7:11 He said,

7:13 "Scorpions whose fangs are like tall palm trees."

7:17 He also said (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the words of the Almighty:

7:21 “Lo! the hypocrites (will be) in the lowest deep of the Fire, and thou wilt find no helper for them;” (4:145)

7:26 He said,

7:28 "In coffins of iron, locked upon them."

7:32 A man said to Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him):

7:36 "Tell us about the Fire,"

7:38 "What is it like?"

7:40 He said,

7:41 "If you were to see it, your heart would depart from its place."

7:45 Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said:

7:50 "If a bucket of the pus of the inhabitants of Hell were poured into the world,"

7:55 "It would cause the people of the world to rot."

7:58 He also said (may Allah be pleased with him):

8:01 ﴾And they will call, 'O Malik,'﴿

8:03 He said,

8:04 "He will wait for them for a thousand years,"

8:07 "Then he will answer them."

8:10 He also said (may Allah be pleased with him):

8:14 "The people of the Fire will seek refuge from the heat,"

8:17 "And they will be aided by a cold wind,"

8:20 "The cold of which will crack their bones,"

8:22 "So they will ask for the heat."

8:24 He also said (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the words:

8:29 ﴾And the companions of the Fire will call to the companions of Paradise,﴿

8:33 “And the dwellers of the Fire cry out unto the dwellers of the Garden: Pour on us some water or some wherewith Allah hath provided you. They say: Lo! Allah hath forbidden both to disbelievers (in His guidance),” (7:50)

8:36 “And the dwellers of the Fire cry out unto the dwellers of the Garden: Pour on us some water or some wherewith Allah hath provided you. They say: Lo! Allah hath forbidden both to disbelievers (in His guidance),” (7:50)

8:39 He said,

8:40 "A man will call to his brother,"

8:42 "'O my brother, I have burned, so help me!'"

8:46 "And he will say,"

8:48 “And the dwellers of the Fire cry out unto the dwellers of the Garden: Pour on us some water or some wherewith Allah hath provided you. They say: Lo! Allah hath forbidden both to disbelievers (in His guidance),” (7:50)

8:52 Abu ad-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

8:56 "Hunger will be sent upon the people of the Fire,"

8:59 "Until it equals the torment they are already in."

9:03 He said,

9:04 "So they will cry for help,"

9:06 "And they will be aided with *dari'* (a thorny plant),"

9:08 "Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger."

9:12 He said,

9:14 "So they will cry for help,"

9:16 "And they will be aided with food that chokes,"

9:19 "He said,"

9:20 "They will remember that they used to wash down choking food in the world with drink,"

9:25 "He said,"

9:27 "So boiling water will be raised to them with hooks of iron,"

9:31 "And when it draws near to their faces,"

9:34 "It will roast their faces,"

9:36 "And when it enters their bellies,"

9:39 "It will tear apart what is in their bellies."

9:42 "They will say,"

9:44 "'Speak to the keepers of the Fire,'"

9:46 "And they will say,"

9:48 "'Call upon your Lord to lighten for us one day from the torment.'"

9:53 "They will answer them,"

9:55 “They say: Came not your messengers unto you with clear proofs? They say: Yea, verily. They say: Then do ye pray, although the prayer of disbelievers is in vain.” (40:50)

10:00 "They will say, 'Yes.'"

10:02 "They will say, 'Then call!'"

10:04 ﴾And the supplication of the disbelievers is not but in error.﴿

10:08 "They will say,"

10:10 "'Speak to Malik,'"

10:12 "And they will say,"

10:14 "'O Malik, let your Lord put an end to us!'"

10:17 "He will answer them,"

10:19 ﴾Indeed, you will remain.﴿

10:22 "They will say,"

10:24 "'Call upon your Lord,'"

10:26 "'For there is no one better for you than your Lord.'"

10:30 "They will say,"

10:32 “Our Lord! Oh, bring us forth from hence! If we return (to evil) then indeed we shall be wrong-doers.” (23:107)

10:38 He said,

10:39 "He will answer them,"

10:41 ﴾'Remain despised therein and do not speak to Me.'﴿

10:44 He said,

10:46 "At that point, they will despair of all good,"

10:50 "And they will begin to wail, lament, and cry out for destruction."

10:54 'Abdullah Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said:

10:58 "The people of the Fire are shackled with chains of fire,"

11:02 "Suspended from trees in the Fire,"

11:05 "And their skins will drip with the molten liquid of boiling water,"

11:09 "Abiding therein eternally,"

11:11 “Lo! those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah's covenant and their oaths, they have no portion in the Hereafter. Allah will neither speak to them nor look upon them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He make them grow. Theirs will be a painful doom.” (3:77)

11:15 "And for them is a great torment."

11:18 If a man were brought out from the Fire to this world,

11:23 the people of this world would die from the horror of his appearance and the stench of his odor.

11:28 Then ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar wept bitterly.

11:33 It is narrated from Salman al-Farisi, may Allah be pleased with him, that he said:

11:38 The Bridge (al-Sirat) will be brought, its edge as sharp as a razor.

11:43 The angels will ask:

11:45 "O our Lord, who can cross this?"

11:49 He will reply: "Whomever I wish from My creation."

11:53 He said: They will then say:

11:56 "Our Lord, we have not worshipped You as You truly deserve to be worshipped."

12:01 Al-Hasan, may Allah have mercy on him, said regarding the verse:

12:04 "Faces that Day will be humbled, laboring, weary,"

12:10 He said: They did not humble themselves for Allah in the world,

12:14 so He humbled them and exhausted them in the Fire.

12:17 That is their labor.

12:19 He also said, may Allah have mercy on him, regarding the verse:

12:23 “And who say: Our Lord! Avert from us the doom of hell; lo! the doom thereof is anguish;” (25:65)

12:27 He said: It is the inescapable torment that never leaves its victim.

12:33 Any punishment that eventually leaves its victim is not considered "Gharam" (inescapable torment).

12:38 It is narrated from Wahb Ibn Munabbih, may Allah have mercy on him, that he said:

12:42 The people of the Fire, who are its true inhabitants,

12:46 will neither find rest, nor sleep, nor death.

12:51 They will walk upon the Fire and sit upon the Fire.

12:56 They will drink from the pus of the people of the Fire.

12:59 They will eat from the Zaqqum of the Fire.

13:02 Their coverings will be fire, and their beds will be fire.

13:06 Their shirts will be fire and liquid pitch.

13:09 The Fire will cover their faces.

13:12 Then he wept.

13:14 Some of the salaf said regarding the words of Allah the Exalted:

13:18 “Then let them laugh a little: they will weep much, as the reward of what they used to earn.” (9:82)

13:26 He said: The world is fleeting.

13:29 Let them laugh in it as much as they wish.

13:32 But when the world comes to an end and they return to Allah,

13:36 they will begin a weeping that will never cease for them.

13:41 It is narrated from ‘Abd al-A‘la, may Allah have mercy on him, that he said:

13:44 No group of people sits in a gathering without mentioning Paradise and the Fire,

13:49 except that the angels say:

13:52 "They have neglected the two greatest matters."

13:55 Some of the salaf said regarding the words of Allah the Exalted:

13:59 “Is he then, who will strike his face against the awful doom upon the Day of Resurrection (as he who doeth right)? And it will be said unto the wrong-doers: Taste what ye used to earn.” (39:24)

14:04 He said: Their hands and feet will be bound.

14:08 Whenever a type of torment comes to them,

14:12 they will shield themselves with their faces.

14:15 It is narrated from Malik Ibn Dinar, may Allah have mercy on him, that he said:

14:19 When the people of the Fire feel the striking of the iron maces in the Fire,

14:24 they will sink into the depths of Hell.

14:27 They will go down and down,

14:30 just as a man drowns in water in this world,

14:33 going down and down.
