0:17 Ibn ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said:

0:21 "Do not revile the Companions of Muhammad."

0:24 "For the standing of one of them for a moment,"

0:27 "Is better than the deeds of any one of you for a lifetime."

0:32 And on the authority of ‘Abdullah Ibn Mas‘ud, may Allah be pleased with him, he said:

0:36 "People will remain in goodness,"

0:39 "As long as knowledge comes to them from the Companions of Muhammad,"

0:42 Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and their elders.

0:46 "But if knowledge comes to them from their juniors,"

0:50 "That is when they will perish."

0:54 Al-Miqdam Ibn Ma‘di Karib, may Allah be pleased with him, entered the mosque,

0:59 And saw people performing voluntary prayers in the mosque.

1:03 He said:

1:05 "A prayer like the prayer of the angels."

1:08 "By Allah, you are more frequent in prayer than we were,"

1:12 "Yet we were better than you."

1:15 And on the authority of Abu ‘Anabah al-Khawlani, may Allah be pleased with him, he said:

1:21 "Shall I not tell you about the qualities your brothers possessed?"

1:26 Meaning the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them.

1:29 The first of them:

1:31 "Meeting Allah was dearer to them than honey."

1:35 The second:

1:38 "They did not fear an enemy, whether they were few or many."

1:43 The third:

1:45 "They did not fear poverty in this world."

1:49 "They were confident that Allah would provide for them."

1:53 And the fourth:

1:55 "If a plague befell them,"

1:57 "They would not depart until Allah decreed what He decreed for them."

2:03 Al-Hasan, may Allah have mercy on him, was in a gathering,

2:07 And he mentioned the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

2:11 He said:

2:13 "They were the most righteous of this Ummah in heart,"

2:18 "The deepest in knowledge,"

2:20 "And the least burdened by affectation."

2:23 "A people whom Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, chose for the companionship of His Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him."

2:30 "So emulate their character and their ways,"

2:34 "For they, by the Lord of the Ka‘bah, are upon the straight guidance."

2:39 And on the authority of Ibrahim al-Nakha‘i, may Allah have mercy on him, he said:

2:43 "Nothing was withheld from you that was hidden from them due to any merit you possess."

2:51 The meaning of the testimony of faith, its merit, and its importance.

2:55 And caution against that which contradicts it.

3:00 Shaddad Ibn Aws, may Allah be pleased with him, said:

3:04 "The thing I fear most for you is shirk and hidden desire."

3:09 It was said to him, "After Islam, do you fear shirk for us?"

3:15 He said, "Shirk is not merely setting up another god alongside Allah."

3:21 The Sheikh said in the footnote:

3:23 "The meaning is that shirk is not limited to setting up another god alongside Allah."

3:30 "Rather, it is more comprehensive and broader."

3:32 "For it may be fallen into by one who prays and prostrates to Allah,"

3:36 "Such as one who seeks aid from the dead and makes them intermediaries."

3:40 "Or one who loves someone with the love due to Allah,"

3:43 "Or fears them as he fears Allah."

3:47 It was said to Wahb Ibn Munabbih, may Allah have mercy on him:

3:51 "Is 'La ilaha illa Allah' not the key to Paradise?"

3:55 He said, "Yes."

3:57 "But there is no key that does not have teeth."

4:02 "Whoever brings the key with its teeth, it will be opened for him."

4:05 "And whoever does not bring the key with its teeth, it will not be opened for him."

4:11 And on the authority of Sufyan Ibn ‘Uyaynah, may Allah have mercy on him, he said:

4:15 "Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, has not bestowed upon His servants a blessing greater than making them know 'La ilaha illa Allah'."

4:24 "And 'La ilaha illa Allah' for them in the Hereafter,"

4:28 "Is like water in this world."

4:30 Loyalty and disavowal (al-wala' wa al-bara').

4:37 On the authority of Abu Musa al-Ash‘ari, may Allah be pleased with him, he said:

4:41 "I said to ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him:"

4:44 "'I have a Christian scribe.'"

4:47 He said:

4:49 "'What is the matter with you? Have you not heard Allah say:'"

4:52 "'O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies.'"

4:59 "'They are allies of one another.'"

5:02 "'Why did you not take a Hanif (a monotheist)?'"

5:05 He said:

5:06 "I said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, I have his writing and he has his religion.'"

5:13 He said:

5:14 "'I will not honor them when Allah has humiliated them.'"

5:17 "'And I will not cherish them when Allah has disgraced them.'"

5:20 "'And I will not bring them near when Allah has cast them far away.'"

5:24 And Abu al-Fawaris Shah Ibn Shuja‘ al-Kirmani, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

5:30 "Whoever knows his Lord hopes for His pardon and anticipates His bounty."

5:35 "And no worshiper has worshipped with anything greater than showing love to the allies of Allah through what they love."

5:43 "Because loving the allies of Allah is evidence of loving Allah."

5:48 The prohibition of swearing by other than Allah.

5:54 On the authority of Jabalah Ibn Suhaym, may Allah have mercy on him, he said:

5:59 "I came with Ziyad Ibn Hudayr al-Asadi, may Allah have mercy on him, from al-Kunasa."

6:05 "Al-Kunasa is the place where dust and filth are thrown,"

6:10 "And what is swept from houses."

6:13 "I said in my speech, 'No, by the trust (al-amanah)!'"

6:17 "Ziyad began to weep and weep."

6:21 "I thought I had committed a grave matter."

6:25 "I said to him, 'Was this disliked?'"

6:29 "He said, 'Yes, he used to forbid swearing by the trust with the utmost prohibition.'"

6:35 The fundamentals of the Sunnah in summary.

6:40 Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

6:45 "Faith is speech and action."

6:48 "It increases and decreases."

6:50 "And some of it is better than others."

6:53 "And Allah is in the heaven."

6:55 "And His knowledge is in every place."

6:58 "And he said, 'The Qur'an is the speech of Allah.'"

7:02 "'And the speech of Allah is from Allah.'"

7:05 "'And nothing from Allah is created.'"

7:08 "And whoever says the Qur'an is created,"

7:11 "He is a disbeliever."

7:13 "And the one who remains neutral is even worse than him."

7:16 "He is to be asked to repent,"

7:18 "Otherwise, his neck is to be struck."

7:20 And Imam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

7:25 "The Imam of the people of the Sunnah,"

7:27 "And the one who remained patient under trial."

7:29 "Ninety men from the Tabi‘un have reached a consensus,"

7:33 "And the Imams of the Muslims,"

7:35 "And the Imams of the salaf and the jurists of the lands,"

7:38 "That the Sunnah which the Messenger of Allah died upon,"

7:42 Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

7:45 "The first of which is contentment with the decree of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic,"

7:49 "And submission to His command,"

7:51 "And patience under His judgment,"

7:53 "And adhering to what Allah has commanded,"

7:56 "And refraining from what Allah has forbidden,"

7:59 "And belief in the divine decree, its good and its evil,"

8:03 "And abandoning disputation and argument in the religion,"

8:06 "And wiping over the leather socks (khuffayn),"

8:09 "And performing jihad with every leader, whether righteous or wicked,"

8:13 "And praying over whoever dies from the people of the Qiblah,"

8:17 "And that faith is speech and action,"

8:20 "It increases with obedience and decreases with disobedience,"

8:23 "And that the Qur'an is the speech of Allah,"

8:27 "Revealed upon the heart of His Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,"

8:32 "Uncreated, in every sense."

8:36 "And patience under the authority of the ruler, regardless of whether he is just or oppressive,"

8:42 "And that we do not revolt against the leaders with the sword, even if they are oppressive,"

8:47 "And that we do not declare anyone from the people of Tawhid to be a disbeliever,"

8:51 "Even if they commit major sins,"

8:53 "And refraining from what occurred between the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,"

8:59 "And the best of people after the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,"

9:04 "Are Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, and ‘Uthman,"

9:08 "And ‘Ali, the cousin of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,"

9:13 "And invoking Allah's mercy upon all the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,"

9:19 "And upon his children, his wives, and his in-laws,"

9:23 "May the pleasure of Allah be upon them all."

9:26 "This is the Sunnah."

9:29 "Adhere to it and you will be safe."
