0:00 In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

0:03 Treasures of the Prophetic biography (Seerah).

0:06 The spoils of the Ansar.

0:11 Then the Prophet, peace be upon him, ordained the spoils and divided them.

0:18 Their shares were four camels and forty sheep for every man.

0:24 There is no doubt that this was the greatest amount of spoils the Muslims had acquired in their time.

0:31 The Prophet, peace be upon him, gave the people what he gave them.

0:36 Yet he left the Ansar, giving them nothing.

0:39 The Ansar felt a sense of grievance in their hearts.

0:42 They wondered how the Messenger, peace be upon him, could give to these people—

0:47 the recent converts of the Conquest, some of the people of Makkah, and some of the Bedouins—

0:51 while giving us nothing.

0:54 Talk spread among them.

0:56 Some of them even said,

0:58 "By Allah, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, has met his own people, and we have been forgotten."

1:05 Sa‘d ibn ‘Ubadah entered upon him and said,

1:08 "O Messenger of Allah,

1:10 this clan of the Ansar

1:12 has felt aggrieved by you in their hearts

1:15 because of what you did regarding this booty you divided among your people,

1:19 and the massive gifts you gave to the tribes of the Arabs,

1:23 while the clan of the Ansar received nothing of it."

1:27 The Prophet, peace be upon him, asked,

1:30 "And where do you stand on this, O Sa‘d?"

1:34 He replied, "O Messenger of Allah,

1:36 I am but one of my people."

1:39 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said,

1:42 "Then gather your people for me in this enclosure."

1:45 In some narrations, he said,

1:48 "And let no one enter upon us except a man from the Ansar."

1:52 Sa‘d went out and gathered the Ansar.

1:55 Some men from the Muhajirun came and entered,

1:59 but he turned them away.

2:01 When they had gathered for him,

2:03 Sa‘d came to him and said,

2:06 "This clan of the Ansar has gathered for you."

2:10 The Prophet, peace be upon him, came to them,

2:13 praised Allah, and extolled Him.

2:16 This was his custom whenever he intended to speak:

2:20 he would praise Allah and extol Him.

2:22 Then he said,

2:24 "O assembly of the Ansar,

2:26 what is this statement that has reached me about you,

2:29 and this grievance you have felt against me in your hearts?

2:33 Did I not come to you while you were astray, and Allah guided you?

2:36 And poor, and Allah enriched you?

2:39 And enemies, and Allah brought your hearts together?"

2:43 They said, "Indeed,

2:45 Allah and His Messenger are more gracious and more generous."

2:48 Then he said,

2:50 "Will you not answer me, O assembly of the Ansar?"

2:54 They said, "How shall we answer you, O Messenger of Allah?

2:58 To Allah and His Messenger belong all grace and generosity."

3:02 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said,

3:05 "By Allah, if you wished, you could have said—

3:08 and you would have been truthful and believed—

3:10 if you had said:

3:12 'You came to us belied, and we believed you;

3:15 forsaken, and we helped you;

3:18 an outcast, and we sheltered you;

3:20 poor, and we comforted you.'

3:23 If you had said this,

3:25 you would have been truthful and believed.

3:27 Do you feel aggrieved, O assembly of the Ansar,

3:31 over a small portion of this world

3:34 with which I sought to reconcile a people so they might embrace Islam,

3:36 while I entrusted you to your Islam?

3:39 Are you not satisfied, O assembly of the Ansar,

3:42 that the people go away with sheep and camels,

3:45 while you return with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

3:49 to your dwellings?

3:51 By Him in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad,

3:54 were it not for the Hijrah,

3:55 I would have been one of the Ansar.

3:58 If the people traveled through a valley,

4:00 and the Ansar traveled through another,

4:03 I would travel through the valley of the Ansar.

4:06 O Allah, have mercy on the Ansar,

4:08 and the children of the Ansar,

4:10 and the children of the children of the Ansar."

4:13 The people wept

4:15 until they soaked their beards with tears.

4:18 They said, "We are satisfied with the Messenger of Allah,

4:20 peace be upon him,

4:22 as our portion and share."

4:24 Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, departed,

4:28 and they dispersed.

4:30 Thus did the Prophet, peace be upon him, soothe

4:33 the hearts of the Ansar,

4:35 who had supported him in the hour of hardship.

4:39 Treasures of the Seerah.

4:44 Loyalty, connection, and kinship.

4:50 Among those taken captive by the Prophet, peace be upon him,

4:53 was his sister, al-Shayma'.

4:55 This al-Shayma' was the daughter of al-Harith ibn ‘Abd al-‘Uzza.

4:59 Halimah al-Sa‘diyyah had nursed her along with the Prophet, peace be upon him.

5:05 She was among the captives.

5:07 She came to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and said,

5:12 "I am your foster sister."

5:15 He asked,

5:16 "And what is the sign of that?"

5:18 She said,

5:19 "A bite mark you gave me on my back

5:22 while I was carrying you."

5:25 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, recognized the sign.

5:29 He spread his cloak for her and seated her upon it.

5:33 He gave her a choice, saying,

5:35 "If you wish to stay, you are beloved and honored with me;

5:39 and if you wish that I provide for you and you return to your people, I will do so."

5:44 She said,

5:45 "Rather, provide for me and return me to my people."

5:49 The Prophet, peace be upon him, did so.

5:52 She then embraced Islam.

5:53 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, gave her three slaves and a servant girl,

5:59 as well as livestock and sheep.

6:02 He named her Hudhafah.

6:04 As for al-Shayma',

6:06 that is a title for her, may Allah be pleased with her.

6:09 Treasures of the Seerah.

6:15 The conversion of Hawazin.

6:19 A delegation of Hawazin came as Muslims,

6:22 numbering fourteen men.

6:25 At their head was a man called

6:28 Zuhayr ibn Surad.

6:30 They said, "O Messenger of Allah,

6:33 show us favor regarding our captives and our wealth."

6:36 He said,

6:37 "I have with me those whom you see,

6:39 and the most beloved speech to me is the most truthful.

6:42 Are your children and women more beloved to you, or your wealth?"

6:48 They replied,

6:49 "We would not trade our lineage for anything."

6:52 He said,

6:54 "When you pray the morning prayer,

6:56 stand up and say:

6:58 'We seek the intercession of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

7:02 with the believers,

7:03 and we seek the intercession of the believers

7:05 with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

7:09 that he may return our captives to us.'"

7:12 When they prayed the morning prayer, peace be upon him,

7:16 they stood and said that.

7:18 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said,

7:22 "As for what belongs to me and the children of ‘Abd al-Muttalib, it is yours.

7:27 And I will intercede for you with the people."

7:29 The Muhajirun and the Ansar said,

7:32 "What belongs to us belongs to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."

7:37 Al-Aqra‘ ibn Habis stood up and said,

7:41 "As for me and the Banu Tamim, no."

7:44 ‘Uyaynah ibn Hisn stood up and said,

7:47 "As for me and the Banu Fazarah, no."

7:51 Al-‘Abbas ibn Mirdas stood up and said,

7:54 "As for me and the Banu Sulaym, no."

7:58 But the Banu Sulaym said,

8:00 "What belongs to us belongs to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."

8:05 Al-‘Abbas said,

8:07 "You have humiliated me."

8:09 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said,

8:12 "These people have come as Muslims,

8:16 and I had delayed their captives.

8:19 I gave them a choice,

8:21 and they would not trade their children and women for anything.

8:25 So whoever has any of them,

8:27 and is willing to return them,

8:30 then that is the way.

8:32 And whoever wishes to hold onto his right,

8:34 let him return them to them,

8:36 and he shall have six shares for every one share

8:40 from the first spoils Allah grants us."

8:43 The people said,

8:45 "We willingly give them up for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."

8:49 He said,

8:50 "We do not know who among you is satisfied and who is not.

8:55 Return until your leaders report your decision to us."

8:59 Meaning, a chief from every tribe or clan should come

9:03 and state who is satisfied and who is not.

9:06 So they returned their women to them,

9:09 and no one held back

9:12 except ‘Uyaynah ibn Hisn alone.

9:14 Then, after a while, he returned them.

9:18 When this delegation came,

9:20 the Prophet, peace be upon him, asked them,

9:24 "What is the state of Malik ibn ‘Awf?"

9:26 They said,

9:28 "He is in al-Ta'if with Thaqif."

9:30 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said,

9:33 "Inform him:

9:35 if he comes to me as a Muslim,

9:37 I will return his family and wealth to him,

9:39 and give him one hundred camels."

9:42 When that message reached Malik,

9:45 he slipped away from Thaqif

9:47 until he came to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

9:52 and he embraced Islam, and his Islam was sincere.

9:54 The Prophet, peace be upon him, returned

9:57 his wealth and family to him,

9:59 and gave him one hundred camels.

10:02 At that, Malik ibn ‘Awf said,

10:05 Never have I seen or heard the likes of him,

10:09 Among all people, the likes of Muhammad.

10:13 He is the most loyal and the most generous when asked.

10:16 Whenever you wish, he tells you of what the morrow holds.

10:20 And when the battalion bares its fangs,

10:24 With long spears and the strike of every Indian blade,

10:27 He is like a lion protecting its cubs,

10:31 Crouched in ambush amidst the dust of battle.

10:35 Indeed, he saw this with his own eyes:

10:39 The people fled,

10:40 While the army advanced,

10:42 And the Prophet, peace be upon him,

10:45 Was not advancing alone to face the army.

10:48 What courage this is!

10:51 It is the courage of the Prophet, peace be upon him,

10:55 The likes of which has never been seen.

10:59 Treasures of the Prophetic biography.

11:05 Lessons learned from the Battle of Hunayn.

11:11 First: It is from the wisdom of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He,

11:16 That He let the Muslims taste the bitterness of defeat,

11:19 Despite their great numbers and strength,

11:22 So that He, Glory be to Him, might humble the heads that were held high after the conquest.

11:27 Second: Allah clarifies to those who said,

11:31 "We shall not be defeated today due to our small numbers,"

11:34 That victory comes only from Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He;

11:38 There is no helper other than Him, Majestic and Exalted.

11:42 Third:

11:43 When Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, withheld the spoils of Makkah from the Muslims,

11:48 He compensated them with the spoils of Hunayn,

11:50 Which were the greatest spoils they ever obtained.

11:54 Fourth:

11:55 The Prophet's, peace be upon him, reconciliation of the hearts of the disbelievers,

12:00 And those new to Islam.

12:03 This is done to secure the greater of two interests,

12:06 And to avert the greater of two harms.

12:09 For if the Messenger, peace be upon him, gives to a leader,

12:13 His people follow him,

12:15 And this is a great benefit,

12:17 Which outweighs the other interest,

12:19 That of equality among people in giving,

12:23 And it averts a great harm,

12:26 For if this man disbelieves, his people will disbelieve.

12:29 Therefore, when the leaders embrace Islam, their people embrace Islam.

12:33 Thus, Sa'd ibn Mu'adh, may Allah be pleased with him,

12:36 When he embraced Islam, his people embraced Islam,

12:38 And likewise Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah, may Allah be pleased with him.

12:43 Treasures of the Prophetic biography.

12:48 The destruction of the idol of Tayy.

12:50 In the ninth year of the Hijrah,

12:53 The Prophet, peace be upon him, sent

12:57 'Ali ibn Abi Talib to an idol of the tribe of Tayy,

13:01 Known as al-Fuls, to destroy it.

13:05 He sent him with one hundred and fifty men,

13:07 Mounted on one hundred camels and fifty horses,

13:11 And with him was a black banner,

13:13 And a white standard.

13:15 He launched the raid on the settlement of Hatim

13:18 At dawn,

13:20 And destroyed the idol al-Fuls.

13:22 They returned, bringing with them the sister of 'Adi ibn Hatim al-Ta'i.

13:26 'Adi ibn Hatim had fled to al-Sham.

13:30 His sister came to the Prophet, peace be upon him,

13:33 And said,

13:35 "O Messenger of Allah,

13:36 The provider is gone, and the protector is cut off.

13:40 I am an old woman,

13:42 And I have no capacity for service.

13:44 So show me favor, may Allah show you favor."

13:47 He asked,

13:48 "Who is your provider?"

13:50 She replied,

13:51 "'Adi ibn Hatim."

13:53 In one narration, he said,

13:56 "The one who fled from Allah and His Messenger?"

13:59 Then he, peace be upon him, departed.

14:02 When the next day came,

14:04 She said the same thing,

14:07 And the Prophet, peace be upon him, showed her favor.

14:11 When she returned to her brother in al-Sham,

14:14 She met him and said,

14:16 "He has done a deed

14:18 That your father would not have done.

14:21 Go to him, whether you are hoping or fearing."

14:24 So 'Adi ibn Hatim came to him.
