0:30 Khalid Ibn Sa'id Ibn al-As, may Allah be pleased with him.

0:51 On a quiet, pleasant, and tranquil evening in Makkah,

0:56 Sa'id Ibn al-As Ibn Umayyah,

0:59 known by the kunya Abu Uhayhah,

1:01 set out from his residence in the upper part of al-Hajun, heading toward the Sacred Mosque.

1:05 He was adorned with his precious, vibrant red turban,

1:09 and draped over his shoulders was a cloak from the garments of the kings of Yemen,

1:13 embroidered with threads of gold.

1:16 A group of his servants, wearing swords, walked before him,

1:21 and to his right were some of his children,

1:24 led by his son, Khalid.

1:27 To his left was a group of the men of his tribe, the Banu Abd Shams,

1:32 strutting in their garments of silk and brocade.

1:36 When Abu Uhayhah appeared at the Sacred Mosque, the people said,

1:41 "The Crowned One has arrived,"

1:43 for that was the title they gave him,

1:46 because whenever he crowned his head with a turban,

1:49 no one from the Quraysh would wear a turban of that same color until he removed his.

1:55 The people cleared the path for him and those with him,

1:58 until he took his seat beneath the Ka'bah.

2:01 There, Abu Sufyan Ibn Harb approached him,

2:05 along with Utbah Ibn Rabi'ah,

2:07 Abu Jahl Ibn Hisham,

2:09 and other leaders of the Quraysh to greet him.

2:12 He said to them,

2:14 "What is this news I have heard,

2:16 that Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqas has followed Muhammad,

2:20 and that he dared to confront a man of the Quraysh,

2:23 splitting his head and shedding his blood,

2:26 because he forbade him from praying to any but our gods?"

2:30 Then he said,

2:31 "By al-Lat and al-Uzza,

2:33 if you continue in this leniency toward Muhammad Ibn Abdullah,

2:37 out of consideration for the Banu Hashim,

2:40 I shall deal with him alone,

2:42 and I will ensure that the God of the son of Abi Kabshah is not worshipped in Makkah."

2:46 Then he returned in the same procession in which he had come,

2:50 and no one remained behind except his son, Khalid.

2:54 Khalid Ibn Sa'id Ibn al-As had remained in the Sacred Mosque,

2:58 moving between the gatherings of the people,

3:01 to catch news of Muhammad,

3:03 and to listen to what was being said about his call.

3:07 He did not find, in all that he heard about the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

3:12 anything to justify the hatred he saw in his father toward Muhammad and his Companions,

3:18 or anything to warrant the malice that surged within his soul and the souls of the leaders of the Quraysh.

3:25 When night fell, Khalid Ibn Sa'id returned to their residence,

3:32 and went to his quarters without passing by his father's room

3:36 to bid him good evening,

3:39 as he used to do every day.

3:42 Then he lay down on his soft bed, intending to sleep,

3:46 but sleep did not come to Khalid,

3:49 nor did his eyes find rest in it.

3:52 He was overcome by an insomnia that chased slumber from his eyes,

3:56 for his mind was occupied by the affair of Muhammad and what he called to,

4:01 and by his fear that his father might strike him with the violence of a tyrant.

4:06 In the last third of the night,

4:09 exhaustion overcame him,

4:11 and he surrendered his eyelids to sleep.

4:14 It was only a short while

4:16 before he awoke, terrified and pale,

4:20 trembling from the horror of what he had seen,

4:22 and shaking from the intensity of what he had endured,

4:24 saying,

4:26 "I swear by Allah, this vision is a true vision,

4:30 and I have not seen a falsehood."

4:33 Khalid had seen himself

4:35 standing on the edge of a deep chasm of the valleys of Hell,

4:40 the extent of which the eye could not perceive,

4:42 and the bottom of which no one could know.

4:45 In this valley, a fire was blazing, having a sighing and a roaring

4:50 that would tear hearts from their places,

4:53 and crush souls with immense force.

4:56 When he intended to move away from the edge of the valley,

4:59 his father appeared before him,

5:01 and began pulling him toward the fire with violence.

5:04 He began to resist his father with the utmost resistance,

5:08 and wrestled with him with the fiercest struggle,

5:11 until his resolve began to fail,

5:13 and he was on the verge of falling into the edge of Hell.

5:16 Suddenly, Muhammad Ibn Abdullah approached him,

5:20 took hold of his belt with both hands,

5:23 and pulled him toward himself,

5:25 saving him from falling into the edge of the valley of Hell.

5:31 No sooner had the morning dawned

5:33 than Khalid Ibn Sa'id went to the house of Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him,

5:40 because he found comfort and reassurance in him.

5:44 He told him of his vision,

5:46 and Abu Bakr said to him,

5:48 "Allah has intended good for you, O Khalid.

5:52 Allah, the Exalted, has sent Muhammad Ibn Abdullah with the religion of guidance and truth,

5:58 and this religion will prevail over all religions,

6:01 even if the polytheists dislike it.

6:03 So follow him, O Khalid,

6:05 for if you follow him, the gates of Paradise will be opened for you,

6:09 and you will be shielded from the Fire.

6:12 As for your father, he is falling into the Hell into which he wanted to cast you."

6:18 Khalid Ibn Sa'id set out to the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

6:23 and the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was at that time

6:27 worshipping Allah in secret in Ajyad.

6:30 He greeted him and said,

6:32 "To what do you call us, O Muhammad?"

6:35 He replied,

6:37 "I call you to believe in Allah alone, with no partner,

6:41 and that I am His servant and His Messenger,

6:44 and to cast off what you are upon of worshipping a stone that neither sees nor hears,

6:49 nor harms nor benefits,

6:52 and does not distinguish between those who worship it and those who turn away from it."

6:56 Khalid’s face brightened, and he said,

7:00 "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah,

7:03 and that you are the servant of Allah and His Messenger."

7:06 Thus, Khalid Ibn Sa'id Ibn al-As was

7:09 the fifth of five or the sixth of six who embraced Islam on the face of the earth,

7:14 for no one preceded him in this great virtue

7:17 except Khadijah Bint Khuwaylid,

7:20 Zayd Ibn Harithah,

7:22 Ali Ibn Abi Talib,

7:24 Abu Bakr al-Siddiq,

7:26 and Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqas,

7:28 may Allah be pleased with them all.

7:32 Khalid Ibn Sa'id left his father's lofty palace in the upper part of al-Hajun,

7:37 turned away from his soft, luxurious life,

7:40 and his comfortable, pleasant existence,

7:43 and joined the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

7:47 He began to move with him and his Companions through the mountain passes of Makkah,

7:52 filling himself with the sentiments of faith,

7:55 memorizing what was revealed to the noble Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

8:00 of the verses of the Qur'an,

8:02 and worshipping Allah in secret for fear of the harm of the Quraysh.

8:06 When Khalid's absence from the house became prolonged,

8:10 his father missed him and could not find him,

8:13 so he sent spies after him.

8:15 The news came to him saying,

8:18 "He has embraced Islam and followed Muhammad."

8:21 The master of Makkah went mad with rage,

8:24 for he had never imagined

8:26 that any of his children would dare

8:29 to rebel against his authority,

8:31 disbelieve in Allah and al-Uzza,

8:33 and join Muhammad.

8:35 He sent his servant Rafi' to him,

8:38 along with his brothers Aban and Amr.

8:41 They found him praying in one of the mountain passes, a prayer

8:44 that shook their hearts,

8:46 filled their souls with comfort and tranquility,

8:50 and flooded their spirits with peace and security.

8:54 They said to him,

8:55 "Your father calls you to meet him,

8:58 and he is furious because you left the house

9:01 without his permission."

9:03 Khalid went with them,

9:05 and when he stood before his father,

9:07 he greeted him with the greeting of Islam.

9:10 His father said to him,

9:12 "Woe to you!

9:13 Have you apostatized from your religion and the religion of your fathers and grandfathers,

9:17 and followed Muhammad?"

9:19 Khalid replied,

9:21 "I have not apostatized,

9:23 rather, I have believed in Allah alone, with no partner,

9:26 and I have testified to the prophethood of His Messenger, Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

9:31 and I have rejected these idols that you worship besides Allah."

9:36 His father said,

9:38 "Woe to you!

9:39 Do you say that you have believed this claimant?"

9:42 Khalid said,

9:44 "He is not a claimant,

9:46 rather, he is truthful, delivering the messages of his Lord,

9:50 and offering sincere advice to me, to you, and to all people."

9:55 His father said,

9:57 "You must turn away from him and call him a liar."

10:00 Khalid said,

10:02 "I will not do so as long as I have a pulse."

10:06 His father said,

10:07 "Then I shall cut you off from my provision."

10:10 Khalid said,

10:12 "That is the easiest of what I expected from you,

10:15 and the least of what I anticipated.

10:17 For the Allah who provided for you will provide for me."

10:20 The master of the Banu Abd Shams was filled with rage against him,

10:24 and he fell upon him with a heavy stick he had prepared for him,

10:28 splitting his head and shedding his blood.

10:32 He continued to strike him until blood began to gush from his head and body.

10:38 Then he ordered him to be seized,

10:40 his bonds were tightened,

10:42 and he was imprisoned in a dark room,

10:45 and denied food and drink for three days.

10:49 Then, on the fourth day, a group of his family came to him and said,

10:53 "How are you, O Khalid?"

10:56 He replied,

10:57 "I am basking in the blessings of Allah, the Almighty and Majestic."

11:01 He said,

11:02 "Is it not time for you to return to your senses and obey your father?"

11:07 He replied,

11:08 As for Rushdi, he never parted from me, nor did I part from him.

11:12 As for my father, I will not obey him in anything that involves disobedience to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic.

11:18 He said:

11:19 "Say a word to your father that will please him regarding Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza, and he will relieve you."

11:24 He replied:

11:26 "Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza are but two deaf and dumb stones.

11:30 I will say nothing about them except what pleases Allah and His Messenger.

11:35 Let him do with me what he wills."

11:37 Abu Uhayha tightened the bonds of Khalid.

11:41 He ordered his followers to take him out every day during the midday heat to the open valley of Makkah.

11:47 They were to cast him among the stones until the sun scorched him.

11:52 Whenever they took him out and cast him into the midday heat, he would say:

11:57 "Praise be to Allah, who has honored me with faith and strengthened me with Islam.

12:03 All of this is easier for me than a single moment of torment in Hell,

12:08 which Abu Uhayha intends to cast me into."

12:12 May Allah reward His Prophet and His chosen one with the best of rewards on my behalf and on behalf of the Muslims.

12:18 Then, an opportunity arose for Khalid.

12:20 He escaped from his father's prison and went to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

12:27 It was not long before his brothers, 'Umar and Aban, joined him.

12:31 They joined him in the procession of goodness and light.

12:35 At that, Abu Uhayha was confounded and said:

12:39 "By Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza, I shall isolate myself with my wealth far from Makkah.

12:44 That is better for me.

12:46 I shall abandon those renegades who insult my gods and my lords."

12:52 He then moved to a village near Ta'if.

12:56 He remained there until he died of grief, while still in a state of polytheism.

13:00 When the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, permitted his Companions to migrate to Abyssinia,

13:08 Khalid ibn Sa'id ibn al-'As migrated there.

13:11 With him was his wife, Amina bint Khalaf al-Khuza'iyya.

13:16 He stayed there for over a decade, calling people to Allah.

13:21 He did not leave for Madinah until after Allah granted the Muslims victory at Khaybar.

13:27 The Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was overjoyed at his arrival.

13:32 He gave him a share of the spoils of Khaybar just as he did for the combatants.

13:37 Then, he appointed him governor of Yemen.

13:39 He remained governor there until the noble Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, passed away to the proximity of his Lord.

13:47 During the era of the Truthful One (Abu Bakr), may Allah be pleased with him,

13:50 Khalid ibn Sa'id ibn al-'As joined the ranks of the army heading to the Levant to fight the Romans.

13:57 He fought on the battlefields with a valor befitting a brave knight like him.

14:04 Shortly before the Battle of Marj al-Suffar, which took place near Damascus,

14:09 Khalid proposed to Umm Hakim bint al-Harith and married her.

14:14 When he wished to consummate the marriage, she said:

14:18 "O Khalid, it would be better if you delayed this until the people are finished with this battle we are about to face."

14:27 He said to her:

14:29 "My soul tells me that I will be struck down in it, so let me consummate the marriage with you."

14:35 On the morning following his wedding, he held a feast for his companions.

14:40 No sooner had they finished their meal than the Romans lined up their soldiers, row after row.

14:47 One of their knights came out, challenging for a duel.

14:51 Habib ibn Salama stepped forward to face him and killed him.

14:55 Another knight came out and challenged for a duel.

14:59 Khalid ibn Sa'id stepped forward, and the two knights clashed and circled each other.

15:05 Then, each of them dealt the other a fatal blow.

15:10 The Roman's sword struck, while Khalid's sword missed.

15:14 He fell, a fallen martyr.

15:17 Then the two armies clashed, and a fierce, grinding battle ensued.

15:22 Nothing could be heard in it but the sound of swords striking the men.

15:27 At that moment, Umm Hakim rose like a lioness whose cubs had been taken from her.

15:34 She tightened her wedding garments.

15:37 She uprooted the tent pole that had witnessed her wedding night.

15:41 She plunged into the battle with the combatants.

15:44 She struck down seven Roman knights.

15:48 She continued to fight until the battle ended in a resounding victory for Islam and the Muslims.

15:55 The price of this victory was pure, sanctified souls.

16:01 They departed to their Lord, well-pleased and pleasing.

16:05 The soul of Khalid ibn Sa'id ibn al-'As was fluttering among them in joy.

16:11 His killer saw with his own eyes a light shining in the center of the sky.

16:17 Then it glittered above Khalid and before him.

16:21 He regretted killing him with the deepest regret.

16:24 That was the reason for his entry into the religion of Allah along with those who entered.

16:30 He was the fifth to embrace Islam.

16:35 He was the first to write "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful."

16:39 You are Khalid.

16:51 And they, are they the ones who are defeated?
