Just as the preceding verses of Surat al-Baqarah prepared the soul for calamities,

and called for patience in the face of them, they also brought glad tidings to the patient.

Thus, the glad tidings were:

“Such are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly guided.” (2:157)

And it is they who are the rightly guided.

The fruit in this world, therefore, is attaining the mercy and guidance of Allah, glory be to Him.

How great a remedy patience is, through which an ordeal is transformed into a gift.
