0:00 Riyad al-Salihin from the words of the Master of the Messengers, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

0:09 Chapter: On Dreams and Matters Pertaining to Them.

0:16 Allah the Exalted says:

0:19 “And of His signs is your slumber by night and by day, and your seeking of His bounty. Lo! herein indeed are portents for folk who heed.” (30:23)

0:27 On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

0:30 I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say:

0:35 "Nothing remains of prophethood except the glad tidings."

0:39 They asked, "And what are the glad tidings?"

0:42 He replied, "The righteous dream."

0:46 Narrated by al-Bukhari.

0:48 From the benefits of the hadith:

0:51 What a servant sees in his sleep

0:55 Is either a true vision (ru'ya),

0:57 Or a dream (hulm).

1:00 The former is what is intended here,

1:02 While the latter is from the devil.

1:05 A true vision is only seen by the believer,

1:08 And it may be seen for him,

1:10 And in any case, it is related to him.

1:13 It is an honor from Allah to His servant,

1:16 And it is rare in others.

1:19 A true vision is one part of the parts of prophethood.

1:24 On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him,

1:28 That the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

1:32 "When the time draws near,

1:34 The dream of the believer will hardly be false.

1:37 The dream of the believer is one of forty-six parts of prophethood."

1:43 Agreed upon.

1:45 In one narration: "The most truthful of you in dreams

1:49 Are the most truthful of you in speech."

1:52 "When the time draws near"

1:56 Means when the end of its duration approaches,

1:58 When the establishment of the Hour draws near.

2:01 From the benefits of the hadith:

2:05 That Allah comforts the believer and consoles him with the truths He shows him,

2:10 And that is during times of corruption.

2:13 The truthfulness of a dream increases with the truthfulness of the dreamer's speech.

2:17 The dreams of the prophets are truth,

2:21 And the dreams of the believers are predominantly truthful,

2:24 Due to the devil’s inability to gain hold of their hearts.

2:28 The dreams of the corrupt and the disbelievers are predominantly false,

2:32 Due to the devil’s control over their souls.

2:35 A true vision is a part of prophethood,

2:39 In that it is a communication from Allah the Exalted to some believers,

2:43 While they are in a state of sleep.

2:46 On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

2:52 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

2:56 "Whoever sees me in a dream

2:58 Will see me in wakefulness,

3:01 Or as if he saw me in wakefulness,

3:04 For the devil cannot impersonate me."

3:07 Agreed upon.

3:10 From the benefits of the hadith:

3:13 The devil cannot impersonate the form of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

3:19 So that he may not use it as a pretext to lie upon his tongue during sleep.

3:23 Seeing the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

3:27 Is a sign of the dream's authenticity,

3:30 And that it is a matter of truth.

3:33 A true vision occurs exactly as seen in wakefulness.

3:37 What is meant by seeing the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, in a dream

3:43 Is seeing him in his known description,

3:46 As mentioned in the books of the Shama'il.

3:49 Therefore, Ibn Sirin, may Allah have mercy on him,

3:52 When a man would tell him that he saw the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

3:58 He would say to him, "Describe to me the one you saw."

4:01 If he described a description he did not recognize,

4:04 He would say, "You did not see him."

4:07 On the authority of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him,

4:11 That he heard the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, say:

4:16 "If one of you sees a dream he likes,

4:20 It is from Allah the Exalted,

4:23 So let him praise Allah for it,

4:26 And speak of it."

4:28 In another narration:

4:30 "Let him not speak of it except to those he loves."

4:34 "And if he sees other than that, which he dislikes,

4:37 It is from the devil,

4:40 So let him seek refuge from its evil,

4:43 And not mention it to anyone,

4:45 For it will not harm him."

4:48 Agreed upon.

4:50 From the benefits of the hadith:

4:54 A righteous, true vision is from Allah,

4:58 And a dream (hulm) is from the devil,

5:00 Or the confusion of the soul.

5:03 The sign of a righteous vision

5:05 Is that the servant sees a dream he likes.

5:08 And if he sees what he dislikes,

5:10 It is from the devil.

5:13 It is incumbent upon the servant,

5:16 If he sees what he likes,

5:18 To praise Allah for it,

5:20 And to tell a scholar,

5:22 Or someone he loves.

5:24 As for if he sees what he dislikes,

5:26 Let him seek refuge in Allah

5:28 From the accursed devil,

5:30 And not tell it to anyone,

5:33 For it will not harm him.

5:37 On the authority of Abu Qatadah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

5:40 The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

5:44 "A righteous vision,

5:46 And in one narration:

5:48 A good vision,

5:50 Is from Allah,

5:51 And a dream (hulm) is from the devil.

5:53 So whoever sees something he dislikes,

5:56 Let him spit to his left three times,

5:59 And seek refuge from the devil,

6:02 For it will not harm him."

6:04 Agreed upon.

6:06 "Spitting" (nafth)

6:08 Is a light blowing without saliva.

6:11 From the benefits of the hadith:

6:14 The classification of what a servant sees in his sleep.

6:19 Some of it is the devil playing with the vision,

6:23 And some of it is to frighten him.

6:27 A righteous vision is glad tidings for the believer.

6:30 The remedy for a dream that is from the devil

6:34 Is to spit to his left three times,

6:37 And seek refuge from the devil,

6:39 For it will not harm him.

6:42 On the authority of Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him,

6:47 From the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who said:

6:51 "If one of you sees a dream he dislikes,

6:55 Let him spit to his left three times,

6:58 Let him seek refuge in Allah from the devil three times,

7:02 And let him turn over from the side he was on."

7:06 Narrated by Muslim.

7:09 From the benefits of the hadith:

7:12 The remedy for a dream a servant dislikes consists of several things:

7:17 First, spitting to his left three times.

7:21 Second,

7:23 Seeking refuge from the accursed devil three times.

7:26 Third,

7:28 Turning over from the side he was on.

7:32 If he was on his right,

7:34 He turns onto his back.

7:36 And if he was on his left side,

7:39 He turns to the right.

7:41 And if he was on his back,

7:43 He turns to the right,

7:45 And he does not turn to the left side.

7:49 On the authority of Abu al-Asqa',

7:52 Wathilah ibn al-Asqa', may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

7:56 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Among the greatest of lies is for a man to claim a father other than his own,

8:06 Or to claim to have seen what he did not see,

8:09 Or to say about the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, what he did not say."

8:15 Narrated by al-Bukhari.

8:17 "Fura" (lies) is the plural of "firyah," which is a great lie.

8:24 "To claim to have seen what he did not see"

8:27 Means to lie about his dream.

8:31 From the benefits of the hadith:

8:33 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, made a man claiming a father other than his own

8:39 One of the greatest lies,

8:41 Because it is a fabrication against Allah the Exalted,

8:44 For the one who claims a father other than his own

8:47 Is as if he is saying,

8:49 "Allah created me from the fluid of so-and-so,"

8:52 When he was created from the fluid of someone else.

8:56 Lying about a dream is a lie against Allah,

8:59 Because it is from Allah.

9:01 Lying against Allah the Exalted

9:04 Is not like lying against created beings.

9:07 The warning against lying about the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

9:13 Because it returns to being a lie against Allah,

9:16 Since the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, does not speak except by revelation.

9:23 It is forbidden to lie about the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

9:28 And a good intention in doing so does not exempt one from the severe threat.

9:33 There is no difference between lying against him and someone who claims he is lying for his sake.

9:39 Islam’s keenness to train its followers in truthfulness in all circumstances,

9:45 In sleep and in wakefulness,

9:47 And in all matters,

9:49 With Allah, with His Messenger, and with one's own self.

9:53 So, truthfulness is encouraged,

9:55 For it is salvation, tranquility, and peace.
