0:09 The Book of Supplications (Adhkar).

0:14 Chapter: The Virtue of Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah) and the Encouragement Toward It.

0:20 Allah the Exalted says:

0:22 ﴾And the remembrance of Allah is greater.﴿

0:26 And the Exalted says:

0:28 ﴾So remember Me; I will remember you.﴿

0:30 And the Exalted says:

0:32 “And do thou (O Muhammad) remember thy Lord within thyself humbly and with awe, below thy breath, at morn and evening. And be not thou of the neglectful.” (7:205)

0:41 “And do thou (O Muhammad) remember thy Lord within thyself humbly and with awe, below thy breath, at morn and evening. And be not thou of the neglectful.” (7:205)

0:44 And the Exalted says:

0:46 ﴾And remember Allah much that you may succeed.﴿

0:50 And the Exalted says:

0:52 ﴾Indeed, the Muslim men and Muslim women...﴿ up to His saying:

0:58 “Lo! men who surrender unto Allah, and women who surrender, and men who believe and women who believe, and men who obey and women who obey, and men who speak the truth and women who speak the truth, and men who persevere (in righteousness) and women who persevere, and men who are humble and women who are humble, and men who give alms and women who give alms, and men who fast and women who fast, and men who guard their modesty and women who guard (their modesty), and men who remember Allah much and women who remember - Allah hath prepared for them forgiveness and a vast reward.” (33:35)

1:07 And the Exalted says:

1:09 ﴾O you who have believed, remember Allah with much remembrance.﴿

1:14 ﴾And exalt Him morning and afternoon.﴿

1:18 The verse.

1:20 The verses in this chapter are numerous and well-known.

1:24 On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

1:28 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

1:32 "Two phrases are light on the tongue,

1:36 heavy on the scales,

1:38 and beloved to the Most Merciful:

1:41 'Glory be to Allah and His praise' (Subhan Allah wa bihamdihi),

1:44 'Glory be to Allah the Almighty' (Subhan Allah al-'Azim)."

1:47 Agreed upon.

1:49 From the benefits of the hadith:

1:53 The permissibility of pleasant rhyming in supplication,

1:56 provided it occurs without affectation or deliberate intent.

1:59 Affirming the attribute of love for Allah the Exalted.

2:03 Deeds will take on physical forms on the Day of Resurrection,

2:08 and will be weighed on the scales.

2:11 A manifestation of the greatness of Allah’s mercy,

2:14 by granting abundant reward for little work.

2:18 And on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

2:23 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

2:27 "For me to say: 'Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah,

2:31 there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest,'

2:35 is more beloved to me than everything upon which the sun rises."

2:39 Narrated by Muslim.

2:42 From the benefits of the hadith:

2:47 "Glory be to Allah and praise be to Allah,

2:50 and there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest,"

2:53 these are the enduring righteous deeds.

2:56 The enjoyment of this world is fleeting,

2:59 and its desires are transient.

3:02 The bliss of the Hereafter is everlasting; it does not cease nor change.

3:08 And on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him:

3:11 That the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

3:15 "Whoever says: 'There is no god but Allah, alone, with no partner,

3:20 “All that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth glorifieth Allah; unto Him belongeth Sovereignty and unto Him belongeth praise, and He is Able to do all things.” (64:1)

3:23 and He is capable of all things,'

3:26 one hundred times a day,

3:28 it will be for him the equivalent of freeing ten slaves,

3:31 one hundred good deeds will be recorded for him,

3:34 one hundred bad deeds will be erased from him,

3:37 and it will be a protection for him from the devil for that day until evening.

3:43 And no one will bring anything better than what he has brought,

3:47 except a man who does more than that."

3:50 And he said:

3:52 "Whoever says: 'Glory be to Allah and His praise' one hundred times a day,

3:57 his sins will be wiped away,

3:59 even if they were like the foam of the sea."

4:02 Agreed upon.

4:06 "The equivalent of ten slaves":

4:08 Meaning the reward of freeing them.

4:10 "A protection from the devil":

4:12 Meaning a fortress against the devil.

4:15 "Foam of the sea":

4:17 Meaning its froth.

4:20 From the benefits of the hadith:

4:22 The remembrance of Allah is a fortified stronghold against the whisperings and schemes of the devil.

4:27 It is among the expiations for sins.

4:31 It is recommended for the servant to say this at the beginning of the day consecutively,

4:36 so that it may be a protection for him throughout his day.

4:39 Likewise at the beginning of the night.

4:42 Encouragement to free slaves and liberate them.

4:47 Encouragement to compete in good deeds and race toward acts of obedience,

4:52 due to his saying, peace be upon him:

4:55 "And no one will bring anything better than what he has brought,

4:59 except a man who does more than that."

5:03 And on the authority of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him:

5:07 From the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who said:

5:11 "Whoever says: 'There is no god but Allah, alone, with no partner,

5:16 “All that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth glorifieth Allah; unto Him belongeth Sovereignty and unto Him belongeth praise, and He is Able to do all things.” (64:1)

5:19 and He is capable of all things,'

5:22 ten times,

5:24 it is as if he has freed four souls from the descendants of Isma'il."

5:29 Agreed upon.

5:31 From the benefits of the hadith:

5:35 The permissibility of enslaving the disbelievers of the Arabs,

5:38 contrary to those who forbade it.

5:42 And on the authority of Abu Dharr, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

5:45 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to me:

5:49 "Shall I inform you of the most beloved speech to Allah?"

5:53 "Indeed, the most beloved speech to Allah

5:56 is: 'Glory be to Allah and His praise'."

5:59 Narrated by Muslim.

6:02 And on the authority of Abu Malik al-Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

6:06 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

6:10 "Purity is half of faith,

6:13 and 'Praise be to Allah' fills the scales,

6:16 and 'Glory be to Allah and praise be to Allah'

6:19 fill what is between the heavens and the earth."

6:24 Narrated by Muslim.

6:27 And on the authority of Sa'd Ibn Abi Waqqas, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

6:31 A Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and said:

6:37 "Teach me words that I may say."

6:40 He said:

6:42 "Say: 'There is no god but Allah, alone, with no partner,

6:47 Allah is the Greatest, truly great,

6:49 and praise be to Allah, abundantly,

6:52 “But when he reached it, he was called, saying: Blessed is Whosoever is in the fire and Whosoever is round about it! And Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!” (27:8)

6:55 and there is no power nor strength except by Allah, the Almighty, the All-Wise'."

7:01 He said:

7:02 "These are for my Lord, so what is for me?"

7:06 He said:

7:07 "Say:

7:08 'O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me,

7:11 and guide me and provide for me'."

7:14 Narrated by Muslim.

7:16 From the benefits of the hadith:

7:20 The recommendation of remembering Allah and praising Him before making supplication,

7:24 because the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

7:27 taught him that before guiding him to the supplication.

7:31 It is appropriate for the servant to be keen on learning what benefits him in this world and the Hereafter.

7:38 And on the authority of Thawban, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

7:42 When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, finished his prayer,

7:47 he would seek forgiveness three times,

7:50 and say:

7:51 "O Allah, You are Peace and from You is peace,

7:55 Blessed are You, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor."

7:59 It was said to al-Awza'i, who is one of the narrators of the hadith:

8:03 "How is the seeking of forgiveness?"

8:06 He said:

8:07 "You say:

8:08 I say:

8:09 'I seek forgiveness from Allah,

8:11 I seek forgiveness from Allah'."

8:13 Narrated by Muslim.

8:16 From the benefits of the hadith:

8:18 The recommendation of seeking forgiveness three times upon finishing the prayer.

8:23 Seeking forgiveness after prayer, which is an act of obedience,

8:28 serves as a reminder to the servant not to be deluded by his deed,

8:31 because that is more conducive to acceptance.

8:34 It emphasizes that the servant is in need of seeking forgiveness in all his states.

8:39 And on the authority of al-Mughirah Ibn Shu'bah, may Allah be pleased with him:

8:44 That the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

8:48 would say when he finished the prayer and performed the taslim:

8:52 "There is no god but Allah, alone, with no partner,

8:57 “All that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth glorifieth Allah; unto Him belongeth Sovereignty and unto Him belongeth praise, and He is Able to do all things.” (64:1)

8:59 and He is capable of all things.

9:03 O Allah, there is no preventer of what You have given,

9:06 and no giver of what You have prevented,

9:09 and the wealth of the wealthy will not benefit them against You."

9:13 Agreed upon.

9:15 "The wealth" (al-jadd) refers to one's portion in this world in terms of money or children,

9:21 or greatness or authority.

9:24 From the benefits of the hadith:

9:27 The recommendation of this dhikr after every obligatory prayer,

9:32 because it contains the expressions of monotheism (Tawhid),

9:35 and attributes actions to Allah regarding prevention and giving,

9:39 and the perfection of His power.

9:41 Taking the initiative to spread the Sunnah,

9:44 because al-Mughirah wrote to Mu'awiyah

9:47 that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

9:50 used to say this after every obligatory prayer,

9:54 and he mentioned the hadith.

9:56 The Giver is Allah, Glorified and Exalted be He.

10:01 Therefore, it is appropriate for the servant

10:03 not to look to anyone other than Him, Glorified and Exalted be He.

10:07 Wealth does not benefit its owner,

10:11 rather, he is only benefited by the mercy and care of Allah,

10:14 and the righteous deeds he has sent forth.

10:17 And on the authority of 'Abdullah Ibn al-Zubayr, may Allah be pleased with them both:

10:22 That he used to say after every prayer when he performed the taslim:

10:27 "There is no god but Allah, alone, with no partner,

10:31 “All that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth glorifieth Allah; unto Him belongeth Sovereignty and unto Him belongeth praise, and He is Able to do all things.” (64:1)

10:34 and He is capable of all things.

10:37 There is no power nor strength except by Allah.

10:40 There is no god but Allah,

10:43 and we worship none but Him.

10:45 To Him belongs the blessing and to Him belongs the bounty,

10:48 and to Him belongs the good praise.

10:51 There is no god but Allah, making our religion sincere to Him,

10:54 even if the disbelievers dislike it."

10:57 Ibn al-Zubayr said:

10:59 "And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

11:02 used to proclaim this after every obligatory prayer."

11:06 Narrated by Muslim.

11:08 From the benefits of the hadith:

11:12 The keenness of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them,

11:15 to implement the Sunnah and spread it.

11:18 And on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him:

11:22 That the poor among the Emigrants (Muhajirun)

11:25 came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

11:28 and said:

11:30 "The wealthy have taken the high ranks

11:33 and the everlasting bliss.

11:35 They pray as we pray,

11:38 and they fast as we fast,

11:40 but they have an advantage of wealth;

11:43 they perform Hajj and 'Umrah,

11:45 and they strive (in Jihad) and give charity."

11:48 He said:

11:50 "Shall I not teach you something by which you may catch up with those who have surpassed you,

11:55 and by which you will surpass those who come after you,

11:58 and no one will be better than you,

12:01 except for those who do the same as you have done?"

12:04 They replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah."

12:07 He said, "Exalt Allah, praise Allah, and magnify Allah

12:12 thirty-three times after every prayer."

12:16 Abu Salih, the narrator from Abu Hurayrah, said,

12:21 when asked about the method of reciting them:

12:24 "He says, 'Subhan Allah' (Glory be to Allah),

12:28 'Alhamdulillah' (Praise be to Allah), and 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the Greatest),

12:31 until each of them reaches thirty-three."

12:36 It is agreed upon.

12:38 Muslim added in his narration:

12:41 The poor among the Emigrants returned to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

12:47 and said:

12:49 "Our wealthy brothers have heard what we did,

12:53 and they have done the same."

12:55 The Messenger of Allah said:

12:57 "That is the bounty of Allah, which He gives to whom He wills."

13:01 "Ad-Duthur" is the plural of "dathr,"

13:04 which means abundant wealth.

13:07 On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him,

13:10 from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, who said:

13:14 "Whoever glorifies Allah after every prayer thirty-three times,

13:19 and praises Allah thirty-three times,

13:23 and magnifies Allah thirty-three times,

13:26 and completes the hundred by saying:

13:28 'There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner,

13:33 “All that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth glorifieth Allah; unto Him belongeth Sovereignty and unto Him belongeth praise, and He is Able to do all things.” (64:1)

13:35 and He is capable of all things,'

13:39 his sins will be forgiven,

13:41 even if they were like the foam of the sea."

13:44 It was narrated by Muslim.

13:47 "Dabur kulli salah" (after every prayer)

13:49 means immediately following every obligatory prayer.

13:52 "Zabad al-bahr" (foam of the sea)

13:54 means its froth.

13:56 On the authority of Ka'b Ibn 'Ujrah, may Allah be pleased with him,

13:59 from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, who said:

14:03 "There are phrases of glorification that will not cause the one who says them

14:07 or performs them to fail,

14:09 after every obligatory prayer:

14:12 thirty-three glorifications (tasbih),

14:15 thirty-three praises (tahmid),

14:18 and thirty-four magnifications (takbir)."

14:21 It was narrated by Muslim.

14:23 "Mu'aqqibat" (phrases of glorification)

14:26 means glorifications performed in the aftermath of prayer.

14:29 They are so named because they are performed one after another.

14:34 "La yakhibu" (will not fail) comes from "al-khaybah,"

14:37 which means deprivation and loss.

14:40 Among the benefits of the hadith:

14:44 The one who does good and speaks good words

14:47 will not have his efforts fail nor his deeds go to waste,

14:50 for his reward is with Allah the Exalted.

14:53 The dhikr after the obligatory prayers

14:57 has many variations.

14:59 This is a case of "ikhtilaf al-tanawwu'" (diversity of variation).

15:02 This indicates the vastness of Allah’s mercy

15:05 toward His servants,

15:06 as He has legislated for them many avenues

15:08 of goodness.

15:10 It is recommended in cases of diversity of variation

15:12 that the servant perform this one time,

15:15 and that one another time,

15:16 so as to attain the goodness of them all,

15:18 and the reward of them all.
