0:00 Riyadh al-Salihin, from the words of the Master of the Messengers, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

0:09 Chapter: Striving against the Self (Mujahadah).

0:14 On the authority of Abu Abdullah Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman, may Allah be pleased with them both, who said:

0:22 I prayed one night with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

0:27 He began by reciting Surah al-Baqarah.

0:29 I thought he would bow after one hundred verses.

0:32 But he continued.

0:33 I thought he would recite it in one rak'ah.

0:36 But he continued.

0:37 I thought he would bow with it.

0:39 Then he began Surah al-Nisa'.

0:41 And he recited it.

0:43 Then he began Surah Ali 'Imran.

0:45 And he recited it.

0:47 He recited in a measured, rhythmic tone.

0:49 Whenever he passed a verse containing a declaration of Allah's perfection, he would declare His perfection.

0:54 Whenever he passed a verse containing a request, he would ask.

0:57 Whenever he passed a verse containing a seeking of refuge, he would seek refuge.

1:00 Then he bowed.

1:02 And he began to say:

1:04 "Glory be to my Lord, the Almighty."

1:07 His bowing was nearly as long as his standing.

1:10 Then he said:

1:12 "Allah hears those who praise Him."

1:14 "Our Lord, to You be the praise."

1:17 Then he stood for a long time, nearly as long as his bowing.

1:22 Then he prostrated and said:

1:24 "Glory be to my Lord, the Most High."

1:27 His prostration was nearly as long as his standing.

1:31 Narrated by Muslim.

1:33 "I prayed with the Prophet":

1:36 Meaning, the night prayer (Qiyam al-Layl).

1:39 "Measured, rhythmic tone":

1:41 Meaning, reciting clearly and distinctly, articulating every letter.

1:44 Giving every letter its due right.

1:47 From the benefits of the hadith:

1:51 The permissibility of following an Imam in voluntary prayer.

1:54 The recommendation of lengthening the night prayer.

1:57 Reciting the Qur'an:

2:00 Should be done with contemplation of its verses.

2:03 And understanding of its meanings.

2:05 The permissibility of supplicating to Allah and asking Him.

2:08 During the recitation of the Qur'an.

2:11 The permissibility of having the standing, bowing, and prostration.

2:15 Be relatively equal in duration.

2:18 The diligence of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

2:21 In worship.

2:23 And his striving against his own self in obedience to Allah.

2:28 On the authority of Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

2:31 I prayed with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

2:34 one night, and he lengthened the standing.

2:37 Until I contemplated doing something bad.

2:40 It was asked: "And what did you contemplate doing?"

2:43 He said: "I contemplated sitting down and leaving him."

2:46 Agreed upon.

2:49 "I prayed": Meaning the Tahajjud prayer.

2:54 "Contemplated": Meaning I resolved to do something.

2:57 From the benefits of the hadith:

3:01 The Prophet's choice of.

3:05 Lengthening the night prayer.

3:09 No one can endure what.

3:12 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, endured.

3:15 In diligence and worship.

3:18 The virtue of Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him.

3:21 And his endurance in worship.

3:24 And his keenness to maintain the following.

3:27 Of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

3:30 Even if it went against his own desires and what he liked.

3:33 Sitting during prayer does not count as exiting it.

3:36 As long as it is not accompanied by a firm intention to leave.

3:39 Opposing the Imam in his actions.

3:42 Is counted as a bad deed.

3:46 Whoever does not understand the speaker's words correctly.

3:49 It is recommended for him to ask.

3:52 About what was unclear in the speech.

3:55 The Sunnah in the night prayer is to lengthen the recitation.

3:58 Therefore, one should maintain this.

4:02 On the authority of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him.

4:06 From the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

4:09 He said: "Three things follow the deceased:

4:12 His family, his wealth, and his deeds.

4:15 Two return, and one remains.

4:18 His family and wealth return.

4:21 And his deeds remain."

4:24 Agreed upon.

4:29 From the benefits of the hadith:

4:32 What stays with a person is his righteous deeds.

4:35 To be his companion in his grave.

4:38 When people return and leave him alone.

4:41 On the authority of Ibn Mas'ud, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

4:45 The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

4:48 "Paradise is closer to one of you.

4:51 Than the strap of his sandal.

4:54 And the Fire is the same."

4:57 Narrated by al-Bukhari.

5:02 It is one of the straps of the sandal.

5:05 That is on the top of it.

5:08 And walking is disrupted if it is lost.

5:11 From the benefits of the hadith:

5:14 Obedience leads to Paradise.

5:17 And disobedience brings one closer to the Fire.

5:21 Obedience and disobedience may be in.

5:24 The simplest of things.

5:27 Therefore, a person should not be negligent.

5:31 Attaining Paradise is easy.

5:34 If the intention is sincere.

5:37 And righteous deeds are performed.

5:40 On the authority of Abu Firas,

5:44 Rabi'ah ibn Ka'b al-Aslami,

5:47 The servant of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

5:50 And one of the People of the Suffah, may Allah be pleased with him.

5:53 He said:

5:56 I used to spend the night with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

5:59 Providing him with his water for ablution and his needs.

6:02 So he said: "Ask me."

6:05 I said: "I ask for your companionship.

6:08 In Paradise."

6:11 He said: "Or something else?"

6:14 I said: "That is it."

6:18 He said: "Then help me against your own self.

6:21 By performing many prostrations."

6:25 Narrated by Muslim.

6:28 In the Mosque of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

6:31 The poor would take shelter there.

6:34 And they were the guests of Islam.

6:37 "Ablution water" is the water prepared for ablution.

6:40 "His needs":

6:43 Meaning what he requires of clothing and other things.

6:46 "Companionship":

6:50 Meaning your closeness, such that I see you in Paradise.

6:53 From the benefits of the hadith:

6:57 Paradise is only attained by striving against the self in obedience.

7:00 And striving against it to stay away from desires.

7:03 And not by mere wishful thinking.

7:06 The keenness of the Companions to win.

7:09 The companionship of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

7:12 In the Hereafter.

7:15 The diligence of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

7:18 In reforming his Companions and nurturing them.

7:22 Most of the companions of the Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

7:26 Were from the poor.

7:29 And such are the followers of the Prophets.

7:32 As mentioned in the hadith of Heraclius,

7:35 When he asked Abu Sufyan.

7:38 About the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

7:41 The Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

7:44 Intended the pleasure of Allah.

7:47 And the companionship of His Messenger in Paradise.

7:50 Because their focus was not on the world.

7:54 Among the noble character traits:

7:57 Is to reward whoever does you a favor.

8:00 If you cannot find anything, then say to him:

8:03 "May Allah reward you with good."

8:06 Whoever does that has indeed excelled in praise.

8:09 And reward.

8:13 True companionship of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

8:16 Is achieved by following him and emulating.

8:19 His guidance. So when a Muslim.

8:22 Follows his guidance, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

8:25 He is his companion in Paradise, if Allah the Almighty wills.

8:28 On the authority of Abu Abdullah,

8:32 And it is said Abu Abd al-Rahman,

8:35 Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

8:38 He said:

8:41 I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

8:44 Say:

8:47 "You must perform many prostrations,

8:51 For Allah will raise you a degree by it,

8:54 And erase a sin from you by it."

8:57 Narrated by Muslim.

9:00 "Erase": Meaning to forgive and wipe away.

9:04 From the benefits of the hadith:

9:08 Voluntary prayers and acts of obedience are among the things that remove.

9:11 Bad deeds and raise one's status.

9:14 A Muslim must be keen on prayer.

9:18 Both the obligatory and the voluntary.

9:21 A godly scholar who nurtures his students.

9:24 And is concerned for them.

9:27 And advises them with what benefits them in their worldly life and their Hereafter.

9:30 On the authority of Abu Safwan,

9:34 Abdullah ibn Busr al-Aslami, may Allah be pleased with him.

9:37 He said:

9:40 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

9:43 "The best of people is he whose life is long,

9:46 And whose deeds are good."

9:49 From the benefits of the hadith:

9:53 Good deeds mean performing them.

9:56 While fulfilling the conditions and pillars.

9:59 With faith and seeking reward.

10:03 The virtue of a long life if it is accompanied by good deeds.

10:06 For he increases his provision of righteous deeds.

10:09 That bring him closer to Allah the Almighty.

10:12 The opposite of this is true.

10:15 For the worst of people is he whose life is long,

10:18 And whose deeds are bad.

10:22 Riyadh al-Salihin.
