0:09 Chapter: The Virtue of Friday and the Obligation of Attending It.

0:16 The performance of ghusl (ritual bath) for it, applying perfume, and arriving early.

0:20 Supplication on Friday, and invoking blessings upon the Prophet, peace be upon him, during it.

0:27 Clarification regarding the hour of response (when prayers are answered).

0:29 The recommendation to frequently remember Allah after the Friday prayer.

0:33 Allah the Exalted says:

0:37 “And when the prayer is ended, then disperse in the land and seek of Allah's bounty, and remember Allah much, that ye may be successful.” (62:10)

0:43 "And remember Allah often, that you may succeed."

0:48 On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

0:54 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

0:58 "The best day upon which the sun has risen is Friday."

1:03 "On it, Adam was created, and on it, he was admitted into Paradise."

1:07 "And on it, he was expelled from it."

1:12 From the benefits of the hadith:

1:16 An explanation of the virtue of Friday.

1:19 Friday is a momentous day in which great events occurred.

1:24 Among them is the creation of Adam, peace be upon him.

1:27 His entry into Paradise and his expulsion from it.

1:32 The servant should prepare for Friday with righteous deeds.

1:37 To attain the mercy of Allah, avert His punishment, and achieve success with Him.

1:42 For the Hour will not be established except on a Friday.

1:46 As stated in the narration of Muslim.

1:50 And on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

1:54 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

1:58 "Whoever performs wudu (ablution) and does it well,"

2:01 "Then comes to the Friday prayer, listens, and remains silent,"

2:04 "His sins between that and the next Friday will be forgiven,"

2:08 "With an addition of three days."

2:11 "And whoever touches pebbles (during the sermon) has engaged in idle talk."

2:15 Narrated by Muslim.

2:17 "Does it well":

2:20 Meaning he fulfills its manners and Sunnah practices.

2:23 And washes his limbs thoroughly.

2:25 "Comes to the Friday prayer":

2:27 Meaning he attends the Friday prayer in the mosque.

2:31 "Listens and remains silent":

2:33 Meaning during the sermon.

2:35 "With an addition of three days":

2:38 Because a good deed is rewarded tenfold.

2:41 "Touches pebbles":

2:43 Meaning he plays with them.

2:45 "Engaged in idle talk" (lagha):

2:46 Meaning he has committed what is blameworthy in terms of idle speech.

2:49 Which is any vain talk that holds no benefit.

2:55 From the benefits of the hadith:

2:57 The recommendation to perfect one's wudu.

2:59 This is done by washing the limbs three times each.

3:03 Extending the washing beyond the joints (tahjil).

3:05 Starting with the right side.

3:07 And performing its Sunnah acts.

3:09 Performing voluntary prayers before the Imam emerges on Friday is recommended.

3:15 The obligation of silence and listening to the Friday sermon.

3:19 It is not permissible to play with pebbles.

3:22 Or to be distracted from listening to the Friday sermon.

3:26 Listening to the Friday sermon is obligatory.

3:29 A good deed is rewarded tenfold.

3:32 So from one Friday to the next is seven days.

3:35 And three days as an addition.

3:38 That makes ten in total.

3:41 And on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him,

3:46 From the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who said:

3:50 "The five daily prayers,"

3:52 "And Friday to Friday,"

3:54 "And Ramadan to Ramadan,"

3:57 "Are expiations for what is between them,"

4:00 "Provided that major sins are avoided."

4:02 Narrated by Muslim.

4:06 From the benefits of the hadith:

4:08 The five obligatory prayers,

4:11 And the Friday prayer, and the fasting of Ramadan,

4:13 Are expiations for sins and transgressions.

4:17 And on the authority of Abu Hurayrah,

4:20 And Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both,

4:23 That they heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

4:27 Say while on the wood of his pulpit:

4:30 "People must cease neglecting Friday prayers,"

4:34 "Or Allah will seal their hearts,"

4:38 "And they will surely become among the heedless."

4:41 Narrated by Muslim.

4:45 "Neglecting Friday prayers":

4:47 Meaning their abandonment of them.

4:49 "The sealing":

4:51 Meaning the stamping and covering.

4:54 From the benefits of the hadith:

4:56 The permissibility of using a pulpit for sermons or exhortations.

5:00 Friday prayer is an individual obligation (fard 'ayn).

5:03 And it is not valid except in a congregation.

5:06 A threat to those who abandon the Friday prayer three times out of negligence,

5:11 While having no legitimate excuse.

5:13 That their hearts will be sealed.

5:16 Sins have levels of severity.

5:19 Among them is the one whose heart is sealed,

5:22 So he becomes heedless of all remembrance,

5:24 And thus becomes deserving of the Fire.

5:26 Performing acts of obedience and maintaining the prayers and Friday attendance,

5:31 Illuminates the hearts and cleanses them from the rust of sins.

5:37 And on the authority of Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both,

5:40 That the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

5:44 "If one of you comes to the Friday prayer, let him perform ghusl."

5:49 Agreed upon.

5:51 From the benefits of the hadith:

5:55 The obligation of performing ghusl for Friday.

5:59 The Friday ghusl is obligatory.

6:01 It was legislated for the act of going to the prayer.

6:04 So for whomsoever the going is obligatory,

6:06 The ghusl is likewise.

6:09 Excluded from this are children, women, and travelers.

6:13 Whoever performs ghusl after the Friday prayer,

6:16 It is as if he has not performed ghusl for the Friday prayer,

6:20 Because the ghusl precedes the going to the prayer.

6:23 And on the authority of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him,

6:29 That the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

6:33 "The ghusl of Friday is obligatory upon every person who has reached puberty."

6:38 Agreed upon.

6:40 The meaning of "muhtalim" is the one who has reached puberty.

6:44 And the meaning of "obligation" here,

6:46 Is the obligation of choice (emphasis),

6:48 Like a man saying to his companion,

6:50 "Your right is obligatory upon me."

6:52 And Allah knows best.

6:54 And on the authority of Samurah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

6:58 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

7:02 "Whoever performs wudu on Friday, that is good and fine,"

7:06 "But whoever performs ghusl, the ghusl is better."

7:10 Narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi.

7:13 From the benefits of the hadith:

7:17 The Friday prayer is valid without ghusl,

7:21 Because ghusl is obligatory in its own right,

7:24 And is not a condition for the validity of the prayer.

7:27 His saying, peace be upon him,

7:31 "The ghusl is better,"

7:33 Does not contradict the statement regarding the obligation of the Friday ghusl,

7:36 Because the obligatory is better than the recommended.

7:39 There is no doubt in that.

7:42 And on the authority of Salman, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

7:46 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

7:50 "No man performs ghusl on Friday,"

7:53 "And purifies himself as much as he is able,"

7:56 "And applies oil from his oil,"

7:59 "Or touches some of the perfume of his house,"

8:02 "Then goes out and does not separate two people (sitting together),"

8:05 "Then prays what has been prescribed for him,"

8:08 "Then remains silent when the Imam speaks,"

8:11 "Except that he is forgiven for what is between that,"

8:14 "And the other Friday."

8:17 Narrated by al-Bukhari.

8:20 And on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him,

8:23 That the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

8:27 "Whoever performs ghusl on Friday,"

8:30 "Like the ghusl for major ritual impurity (janabah),"

8:32 "Then goes in the first hour,"

8:35 "It is as if he has sacrificed a camel."

8:38 "And whoever goes in the second hour,"

8:41 "It is as if he has sacrificed a cow."

8:44 "And whoever goes in the third hour,"

8:47 "It is as if he has sacrificed a horned ram."

8:50 "And whoever goes in the fourth hour,"

8:53 "It is as if he has sacrificed a hen."

8:56 "And whoever goes in the fifth hour,"

8:59 "It is as if he has sacrificed an egg."

9:02 "Then when the Imam comes out,"

9:04 "The angels attend to listen to the remembrance."

9:08 Agreed upon.

9:12 His saying "ghusl of janabah":

9:14 Meaning a ghusl like the ghusl for janabah in its manner.

9:18 "Sacrificed" (qarraba):

9:19 Meaning he gave in charity.

9:21 "Went" (raha): Meaning he departed.

9:25 From the benefits of the hadith:

9:27 An indication towards marital relations on Friday,

9:30 So that one may perform ghusl for janabah,

9:33 And its wisdom is apparent,

9:35 As the soul becomes tranquil in going to the prayer,

9:38 And his eyes do not wander to anything he sees.

9:42 The virtue of arriving early to the mosque on Friday.

9:48 The ranks of people in virtue and reward,

9:50 According to their righteous deeds by which they draw near to Allah the Exalted.

9:56 A small amount of charity is not to be despised in the Shari'ah,

10:01 Which is shown in his saying, peace be upon him,

10:05 "It is as if he has sacrificed an egg."

10:08 The obligation of silence for the sermon.

10:11 For when the Imam ascends the pulpit, the angels,

10:15 Fold their scrolls to listen to the remembrance in the sermon and exhortation.

10:20 Drawing near to Allah with a camel is better than with a cow.

10:26 The meaning of folding the scrolls:

10:29 Folding the scrolls of the angels specifically regarding arriving early to Friday prayer, and not others.

10:35 Such as listening to the sermon, catching the prayer, and so on,

10:39 For the two recording angels write those down definitively.

10:43 The Friday prayer is valid before the sun passes the meridian when the preacher ascends.

10:51 And on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him,

10:54 That the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, mentioned Friday,

10:59 And said: "In it, there is an hour; no Muslim servant coincides with it,"

11:05 "While he is standing in prayer,"

11:07 "Asking Allah for something, but He will grant it to him."

11:12 And he gestured with his hand to indicate it is short.

11:16 Agreed upon.

11:19 From the benefits of the hadith:

11:21 Encouragement and urging to coincide with this hour on this day.

11:26 Due to the abundance of goodness it contains.

11:29 This hour is specific to Friday, unlike any other day.

11:35 It is authentically established by the consensus of the Companions that it is the final hour of Friday.

11:41 On the authority of Abu Burdah Ibn Abi Musa al-Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

11:48 'Abdullah Ibn 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said:

11:52 "Did you hear your father narrating from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, regarding the hour on Friday?"

12:00 He said: "I replied, 'Yes.'"

12:03 "I heard him say:"

12:05 "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, say:"

12:09 "It is the time between when the Imam sits down until the prayer is concluded."

12:15 Narrated by Muslim.

12:17 Among the benefits of this hadith:

12:22 The hour of response is during the period of the sermon and the prayer.

12:26 This is one of the scholarly opinions regarding the determination of its time.

12:30 It is for this reason that the angels attend it.

12:33 Therefore, one should maintain presence of heart and sincerity in turning toward Allah, the Almighty and Majestic, during this period.

12:40 And Allah knows best.

12:43 On the authority of Aws Ibn Aws, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:

12:47 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:

12:51 "Indeed, among the best of your days is Friday."

12:55 "So, increase your prayers upon me on that day."

12:58 "For your prayers are presented to me."

13:02 Narrated by Abu Dawud.

13:06 Among the benefits of this hadith:

13:08 Friday is the master of days and the best of them.

13:12 It is superior in the sight of Allah to the day of Adha and the day of Fitr.

13:18 Encouragement to increase prayers upon the Prophet, peace be upon him, on Friday.

13:25 The prophets are alive in their graves.

13:28 Prayers upon the Prophet, peace be upon him,

13:33 Are presented to him in his grave,

13:35 As an honor from Allah to His Messenger, peace be upon him,

13:40 And as an honor from Allah to His servant

13:43 Who follows the instruction of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
