0:16 I am one of the Muhajirun (Emigrant) Companions.

0:21 I embraced Islam early on in Makkah.

0:24 I migrated to Abyssinia.

0:26 Then I returned to Makkah with my kin.

0:29 Later, I intended to migrate to Madinah.

0:32 But I was unable to do so.

0:34 I was a virtuous and righteous man.

0:38 is 'Amr ibn al-'As, may Allah be pleased with him.

0:41 He was one of the most astute men among the Arabs.

0:43 The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, testified

0:46 to our faith.

0:48 When I intended to migrate to Madinah,

0:52 I, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab,

0:55 and 'Ayyash ibn Abi Rabi'ah, may Allah be pleased with them both, agreed

0:58 to meet at a specific location

1:01 outside of Makkah.

1:03 We said,

1:05 "Whoever among us does not arrive by morning has been detained,

1:08 so his two companions should proceed."

1:10 On the following morning,

1:13 'Umar and 'Ayyash met at the designated spot,

1:17 but I was detained.

1:19 So they proceeded to Madinah.

1:21 As for me,

1:24 my people found out about me.

1:26 They bound me, tortured me,

1:29 and pressured me to abandon my religion,

1:31 and I succumbed to the trial.

1:33 People used to say,

1:35 "Allah will not accept any repentance,

1:38 nor any ransom or compensation from those who were tempted away from their faith."

1:41 They were people who knew Allah,

1:43 then returned to disbelief due to a trial that befell them.

1:47 When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, arrived in Madinah,

1:52 Allah revealed regarding them and us

1:54 His saying:

1:56 “Say: O My slaves who have been prodigal to their own hurt! Despair not of the mercy of Allah, Who forgiveth all sins. Lo! He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (39:53)

1:59 "against themselves."

2:01 “Say: O My slaves who have been prodigal to their own hurt! Despair not of the mercy of Allah, Who forgiveth all sins. Lo! He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (39:53)

2:05 “Say: O My slaves who have been prodigal to their own hurt! Despair not of the mercy of Allah, Who forgiveth all sins. Lo! He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (39:53)

2:11 "Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful."

2:17 "And turn in repentance to your Lord,"

2:19 “Turn unto your Lord repentant, and surrender unto Him, before there come unto you the doom, when ye cannot be helped.” (39:54)

2:27 "before the punishment comes upon you,"

2:32 "then you will not be helped."

2:37 “And follow the better (guidance) of that which is revealed unto you from your Lord, before the doom cometh on you suddenly when ye know not,” (39:55)

2:43 "before the punishment comes upon you."

2:48 "before the punishment comes upon you."

2:53 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, wrote these verses on a parchment

2:59 and sent it to me.

3:02 When it reached me,

3:04 I began reading it but did not understand it,

3:07 until I said,

3:09 "O Allah, make me understand it."

3:12 Allah, the Exalted, cast into my heart

3:15 that it was revealed regarding what we used to say.

3:20 I returned to my camel,

3:22 mounted it,

3:24 and caught up with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

3:28 I witnessed every battle with him after the Battle of the Trench.

3:33 One day, my brother 'Amr and I came to the mosque,

3:37 and found people arguing about the Qur'an.

3:42 We withdrew from them.

3:45 Again, the people were arguing about the Qur'an,

3:48 and we withdrew from them.

3:50 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

3:53 was behind the chamber, hearing their words.

3:56 He came out in anger, stood over them, and said,

4:01 "It was by this that the nations before you were destroyed."

4:04 "The Qur'an was not revealed for you to strike one part of it against another."

4:09 "It was revealed so that its parts might confirm one another."

4:13 Then he turned to me and my brother,

4:16 and we felt relieved that he had not seen us with them.

4:21 Then he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said,

4:25 "The sons of al-'As are believers."

4:28 When the day of Ajnadayn arrived,

4:33 my brother 'Amr and I went out to the battlefield.

4:37 We raced toward Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.

4:40 I held the curtain for him

4:42 until he performed ablution and applied perfume.

4:45 Then he held it for me until I performed ablution and applied perfume.

4:49 We spent our night asking Allah for martyrdom.

4:54 We offered ourselves to Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.

4:58 He accepted me and left my brother.

5:01 On the battlefield,

5:03 I saw the Muslims retreating from their enemy.

5:07 I cast the helmet from my face,

5:09 and began advancing toward the enemy, shouting,

5:13 "O company of Muslims, come to me, come to me!"

5:17 "Are you fleeing from Paradise?"

5:20 I began plunging into the ranks of the polytheists,

5:23 killing some and returning.

5:25 I did this repeatedly.

5:28 Then a champion from Ghassan stepped forward to challenge me,

5:31 and I killed him.

5:33 Then men from Ghassan turned upon me,

5:36 and struck me with their swords

5:38 until they killed me.

5:40 Then they trampled me with the hooves of their horses

5:43 until they tore my flesh and scattered my bones.

5:47 After the battle ended,

5:50 my brother 'Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, returned to me,

5:53 gathered my flesh and bones, and buried me.
