0:16 I am one of the Companions.

0:21 I am from the Thaqif tribe of Ta'if.

0:24 I arrived with my people to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, during the Year of Delegations.

0:30 I was the youngest among them.

0:32 I came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, before them.

0:36 I embraced Islam.

0:37 He taught me some of the Qur'an.

0:40 I kept the company of Ubayy ibn Ka'b, may Allah be pleased with him.

0:43 He used to teach me the Qur'an.

0:46 When my people wanted to depart,

0:49 They said, "O Messenger of Allah,

0:51 Appoint someone over us."

0:54 So he appointed me as their leader.

0:56 And he said,

0:57 "He is intelligent,

0:59 And he has memorized a portion of the Qur'an."

1:02 They were satisfied and said,

1:04 "We will not change a leader whom the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, has appointed over us."

1:11 I returned with them to Ta'if.

1:14 I was their leader and their imam in prayer.

1:19 One day, I complained to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, of a pain

1:25 That I had felt in my body since I embraced Islam,

1:28 To the point that it almost destroyed me.

1:30 The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to me,

1:34 "Place your hand on the part of your body that hurts,

1:38 And say 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) three times,

1:41 And say seven times:

1:43 'I seek refuge in Allah and His power from the evil of what I feel and what I fear.'"

1:49 I did so,

1:50 And the pain left me.

1:54 Something used to interfere with me in my prayer,

1:57 To the point that I would not know what I was praying.

2:00 The Qur'an would slip away from my memory.

2:03 When I saw that,

2:05 I traveled to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

2:10 He said,

2:11 "What brought you?"

2:13 I said,

2:14 "O Messenger of Allah,

2:16 Something has interfered with my prayers,

2:19 To the point that I do not know what I am praying,

2:22 And the Qur'an is slipping away from me."

2:25 He said,

2:26 "That is the devil.

2:28 Come closer."

2:29 I drew near to him,

2:31 And I sat on the balls of my feet.

2:34 He struck my chest with his hand,

2:36 And blew into my mouth,

2:38 And said,

2:39 "Get out, enemy of Allah!"

2:41 He did that three times.

2:44 Then he said,

2:45 "Return to your land."

2:47 By Allah, he never bothered me in my prayer again,

2:51 And I never forgot anything I wanted to memorize.

2:56 I played a role in preventing the Thaqif tribe from apostasy,

3:00 As I gave a sermon to them after the death of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

3:06 And the apostasy of the rest of the Arabs.

3:09 I said,

3:10 "O people of Thaqif,

3:12 You were the last of the people to embrace Islam,

3:15 So do not be the first of them to apostatize."

3:19 So Allah made them steadfast.

3:21 I once sent some of my young men as merchants.

3:25 When they returned,

3:27 I said,

3:28 "What have you brought back?"

3:30 They said,

3:31 "We have brought merchandise,

3:33 Where the profit on a dirham is ten."

3:36 I said,

3:37 "What is this merchandise you have brought,

3:40 That has such a great profit?"

3:43 They said,

3:44 "Wine."

3:46 I said,

3:47 "Wine?

3:48 We have been forbidden from drinking it and selling it."

3:52 So I began opening the mouths of the containers and pouring them out in the streets.
