0:16 I am one of the noble Companions and the leader of my people, the Banu al-Mustaliq.

0:23 My daughter is the Mother of the Believers, the wife of the noble Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.

0:31 I embraced Islam in the fifth year of the Hijra, after the expedition against the Banu al-Mustaliq.

0:36 The cause of that expedition was that I was gathering my people and whoever I could from the Arabs to wage war against the Muslims in Medina.

0:44 When the Prophet, peace be upon him, learned of this, he prepared his army and marched toward us.

0:52 The cavalry of the Muslims raided us, and we fled from them in every direction.

0:58 They took the livestock and the children, and they took my daughter, Juwayriya, among the captives.

1:06 The Prophet, peace be upon him, chose her for himself and married her.

1:12 I then approached the Prophet, peace be upon him, to ransom my daughter.

1:17 When I was at al-'Aqiq, I looked at the camels I had brought for the ransom.

1:23 I took a liking to two of them, so I hid them in one of the mountain passes of al-'Aqiq.

1:30 Then I came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and said, "O Muhammad, a woman like my daughter should not be taken captive."

1:39 "I am too noble for that, so let her go, and here is her ransom."

1:47 He, peace be upon him, said, "What do you think if we give her the choice? Would that not be better?"

1:54 I said, "Indeed, you have fulfilled your duty." So I went to her and said,

2:00 "My daughter, this man has given you a choice, so do not disgrace us."

2:06 She replied, "I have chosen the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."

2:12 I said, "By Allah, you have disgraced us!"

2:15 Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, looked at the ransom and said,

2:21 "Where are the two camels you hid in al-'Aqiq in such-and-such a mountain pass?"

2:27 I said, "By Allah, no one knew of that except Allah."

2:32 "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that you are the Messenger of Allah."

2:38 I embraced Islam at that moment and followed the Prophet, peace be upon him.

2:45 Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, invited me to pay the zakat.

2:50 I agreed to it and said, "O Messenger of Allah, let me return to my people."

2:56 "I will call them to Islam and to the payment of zakat."

3:00 "Whoever responds to me, I will collect their zakat." So he gave me permission.

3:05 When the time for zakat arrived, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, sent to me

3:11 al-Walid ibn 'Uqba, may Allah be pleased with him, to collect the zakat from us.

3:16 We, in turn, went out to welcome him.

3:20 When al-Walid drew near to us and saw us, he feared for his life.

3:25 He thought we were going to kill him due to old blood feuds from the days of ignorance.

3:31 He returned to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

3:35 and informed him that we had withheld the zakat and intended to kill him.

3:40 The Prophet, peace be upon him, prepared an army to fight us,

3:45 and ordered them to march toward us.

3:48 As for me, I said to the men of my people,

3:52 "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, would not break his promise to us,"

3:57 "unless he was angry with us."

4:00 "So, let us go to him."

4:02 When we neared Medina, we met the army.

4:06 I asked them, "To whom were you sent?"

4:10 They said, "To you."

4:12 I asked, "And why?"

4:14 They said, "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,"

4:18 "sent al-Walid ibn 'Uqba to you."

4:21 "He claimed that you withheld the zakat and intended to kill him."

4:25 I said, "No, by the One who sent Muhammad with the truth,"

4:29 "I did not see him, nor did he come to me."

4:32 When I entered upon the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

4:36 he said to me,

4:37 "You withheld the zakat and intended to kill my messenger?"

4:41 I said, "No, by the One who sent you with the truth,"

4:45 "I did not see him, nor did he come to me."

4:48 "And I did not come to you,"

4:50 "except when your messenger was delayed,"

4:53 "so I feared that Allah or His Messenger might be angry with me."

4:57 "That is why I came, and I have the zakat of my people with me."

5:01 Then Allah the Almighty revealed His saying:

5:04 "O you who have believed..."

5:09 “O ye who believe! If an evil-liver bring you tidings, verify it, lest ye smite some folk in ignorance and afterward repent of what ye did.” (49:6)

5:37 So the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, was pleased with us,

5:41 and he accepted the zakat from us.
