0:16 I am one of the Qurayshi female Companions from the famous tribe of Taym, to which my husband, Abu Quhafa (may Allah be pleased with him), belongs.

0:28 My son is Abu Bakr, the companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his successor.

0:34 “If ye help him not, still Allah helped him when those who disbelieve drove him forth, the second of two; when they two were in the cave, when he said unto his comrade: Grieve not. Lo! Allah is with us. Then Allah caused His peace of reassurance to descend upon him and supported him with hosts ye cannot see, and made the word of those who disbelieved the nethermost, while Allah's Word it was that became the uppermost. Allah is Mighty, Wise.” (9:40)

0:38 My grandchildren are the children of Abu Bakr: Abdullah, Abd al-Rahman, Muhammad, Umm Kulthum, and Aisha, the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

1:22 He called them to Allah and to His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

1:27 The polytheists rose against him and beat him severely.

1:32 The wicked Utba ibn Rabi'a approached him.

1:35 He began striking him in the face with two heavy sandals.

1:39 Until his face became unrecognizable from his nose.

1:43 Then my people, the Banu Taym, rushed to the scene.

1:46 They drove the polytheists away from Abu Bakr.

1:49 They carried him in a garment until they brought him into my house.

1:53 They were certain he would not survive.

1:56 Then they returned to the mosque and declared:

1:59 "By Allah, if Abu Bakr dies, we will surely kill Utba ibn Rabi'a."

2:05 They returned to Abu Bakr.

2:07 My husband, Abu Quhafa, and I began speaking to him.

2:11 He did not respond until the end of the day.

2:15 The first thing he said was:

2:17 "What has become of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?"

2:22 They spoke harshly to him and rebuked him.

2:25 Then they left him.

2:27 When I was alone with him,

2:29 He persisted, saying:

2:32 "What has become of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?"

2:36 I said, "By Allah, I have no knowledge of your companion."

2:40 He said, "Go to Umm Jamil bint al-Khattab."

2:45 "And ask her about him."

2:47 I went out until I reached Umm Jamil.

2:50 I said to her:

2:52 "Abu Bakr is asking you about Muhammad ibn Abdullah."

2:56 She replied:

2:57 "I do not know Abu Bakr nor Muhammad ibn Abdullah."

3:01 "But if you would like me to go with you to your son, I will do so."

3:06 I said, "Yes."

3:08 She walked with me until she saw Abu Bakr lying prostrate and gravely ill.

3:13 She leaned over him, cried out, and said:

3:16 "By Allah, the people who did this to you"

3:20 "Are surely people of wickedness and disbelief."

3:22 "I pray that Allah will take vengeance for you."

3:26 He said, "What has become of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)?"

3:31 She said, "Your mother is listening."

3:35 He said, "Do not worry about her."

3:39 She said, "He is safe and well."

3:42 He asked, "Where is he?"

3:45 She said, "In the house of Ibn al-Arqam."

3:48 He said:

3:50 "I have made a vow to Allah that I will not taste food,"

3:54 "Nor will I drink any drink,"

3:56 "Until I go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)."

4:01 We waited until the streets were quiet and the people had settled.

4:05 We took him out, and he leaned on us,

4:08 Until we brought him to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

4:13 The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) leaned over him and kissed him.

4:18 The Muslims also gathered around him.

4:21 The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) felt deep compassion for him.

4:27 Abu Bakr said:

4:29 "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Messenger of Allah."

4:32 "I am unharmed, save for what that wicked man did to my face."

4:37 "This is my mother, who is dutiful to her son,"

4:40 "And you are blessed."

4:42 "So invite her to Allah, and pray to Allah for her."

4:46 "Perhaps Allah will save her from the Fire through you."

4:50 The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed for me,

4:54 And invited me to Allah.

4:56 So I embraced Islam.

4:59 When the persecution of the Muslims by the disbelievers of Quraysh intensified,

5:03 The Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded them to migrate to Medina.

5:09 I was among those who migrated.

5:11 I lived in the Prophetic city of Medina.

5:14 I witnessed all the events,

5:16 Until the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed away.

5:20 My son, Abu Bakr, was pledged allegiance as the Caliph.

5:24 When he passed away, I and his father inherited from him.

5:28 There is no other Caliph known to have been inherited by his father except my son, Abu Bakr.

5:33 Then death came to me shortly after him.

5:37 I died before my husband, Abu Quhafa.

5:40 So, who am I?
