0:35 I had immortal moments in the history of Islam.

0:39 One day, I said to my people:

0:43 "By Allah, we have known nothing of Muhammad but good."

0:47 "And we have heard nothing from his call but mercy, kindness, and justice."

0:53 "So why do we hold back from him while people are rushing toward him?"

0:58 Then I said, "As for me,"

1:01 "I have resolved to go to him at daybreak."

1:06 "So whoever among you wishes to be with me, let him prepare."

1:11 I arrived at the Prophet, peace be upon him, with the people, and we brought gifts with us.

1:17 We all declared our Islam.

1:20 The people of Medina rejoiced greatly because of us.

1:24 For never before had any household among the Arabs seen eleven brothers from one father embrace Islam at once.

1:31 And with them were four hundred horsemen.

1:35 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said of us:

1:40 "Indeed, there are houses of faith,"

1:42 "And there are houses of hypocrisy."

1:45 He said that our houses were among the houses of faith.

1:49 And regarding us, the Almighty’s words were revealed:

1:52 "And among the Bedouins are those who believe in Allah and the Last Day."

1:58 “And of the wandering Arabs there is he who believeth in Allah and the Last Day, and taketh that which he expendeth and also the prayers of the messenger as acceptable offerings in the sight of Allah. Lo! verily it is an acceptable offering for them. Allah will bring them into His mercy. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.” (9:99)

2:20 I participated in the Wars of Apostasy during the time of the Truthful one (Abu Bakr), may Allah be pleased with him.

2:27 Then, I took part in the Islamic conquests during the time of ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him.

2:32 Until the great Battle of Nahavand arrived,

2:36 Known as the "Victory of Victories."

2:39 The Caliph appointed me commander over the Muslim army heading to fight the Persians.

2:45 I marched with them until the two armies met.

2:49 I ordered the Muslim army not to fight until I gave them the signal.

2:54 I addressed them, saying:

2:57 "I will say 'Allahu Akbar' three times."

3:00 "When I say it the third time,"

3:02 "I will charge at the enemy,"

3:05 "So charge with me."

3:07 Then I prayed to Allah, saying:

3:10 "O Allah, strengthen Your religion,"

3:13 "Grant victory to Your servants,"

3:15 "And make me the first martyr today."

3:18 "And I ask You to gladden my eyes with a victory in which Islam is honored,"

3:24 "And then take my soul as a martyr."

3:27 The people wept out of deep emotion.

3:30 The battle took place on the outskirts of Nahavand.

3:34 I led the battle with rare courage,

3:38 Until I attained the martyrdom I had wished for.

3:42 The great victory I had asked of Allah was achieved.

3:47 Then a man came to me while I still had a breath of life left.

3:51 He poured water on my face to wash away the dust.

3:55 I asked, "Who is this?"

3:57 He replied, "Ma'qil Ibn Yasar."

4:00 I asked, "What have the people done?"

4:03 He said, "Allah has granted them victory."

4:07 I said, "Praise be to Allah."

4:10 "Write to ‘Umar about this."

4:13 Then my soul departed.

4:16 The bearer of good news took the word to the Commander of the Faithful, may Allah be pleased with him.

4:22 He said to him, "Allah has granted you victory, and it is the greatest of victories."

4:27 "And the commander has been martyred."

4:30 ‘Umar said:

4:32 “Who say, when a misfortune striketh them: Lo! we are Allah's and lo! unto Him we are returning.” (2:156)

4:36 He placed his hand on his face and wept for me,

4:40 Until his voice rose in lamentation.
