0:27 I participated in the battles of the Jahiliyyah, such as the Day of Dhu Qar.

0:32 I was known for my courage and military leadership.

0:37 I dedicated this experience to Islam after I embraced the faith.

0:41 I played a clear role in the early Islamic conquests in Iraq.

0:47 I was known as the Conqueror of the Persians and the Slayer of the Elephants.

0:52 I met the Prophet, peace be upon him.

0:55 I was with a group of my people in Makkah before the Hijrah.

0:59 He presented himself to us so that we might support him.

1:02 He spoke to us about Islam and recited the Qur'an to us.

1:06 I said to him, "I have heard your words, O Muhammad."

1:11 "I found your words excellent and was impressed by what you said."

1:15 "However, there is a treaty between us and you."

1:18 "That we shall not initiate any new conflict nor harbor any troublemakers."

1:22 "And perhaps this matter to which you invite us is something that kings despise."

1:27 "If you wish for us to support and protect you from the lands of the Arabs that border us, we shall do so."

1:33 The Prophet, peace be upon him, replied:

1:37 "You have not responded poorly, for you have been clear and truthful."

1:41 "Indeed, the religion of Allah will only be supported by those who protect it from all sides."

1:47 Then he, peace be upon him, stood up.

1:50 If only we had embraced Islam and supported him then.

1:53 Later, I arrived with a delegation of my people in the ninth year.

1:57 We embraced Islam, and I participated in the Wars of Apostasy.

2:01 After the death of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

2:06 I remained steadfast in my Islam.

2:08 I then took charge of fighting the apostates in the eastern Arabian Peninsula.

2:13 I tightened the siege upon them in Bahrain and Hajar.

2:17 Until Islam was firmly established.

2:19 Then I continued my path northward.

2:22 Marching from one victory to another.

2:25 Until I reached the borders of the Persian Empire.

2:28 I would launch raids against the Persians.

2:31 News would reach Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him.

2:35 He would ask, "Who is this man whose victories reach us before we know his lineage?"

2:41 Qays ibn 'Asim replied:

2:43 "He is not a man of obscure reputation."

2:46 "Nor is he of unknown lineage."

2:48 "Nor is his following small."

2:50 "Nor is his raiding force weak."

2:52 "That is our chieftain and our master of war."

2:56 Then I came to Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, in Madinah.

3:02 He welcomed me and honored me.

3:04 I said to him:

3:06 "O Caliph of the Messenger of Allah,"

3:08 "Send me to my people,"

3:10 "For there is Islam among them,"

3:12 "I will fight the Persians with them,"

3:14 "And I will spare you from the enemy on that front."

3:18 I gave Abu Bakr and the Muslims hope in fighting the Persians.

3:22 I made the matter of the Persian Empire seem easy to them.

3:26 Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, sent me with an army to Iraq.

3:30 I had many exploits and campaigns there.

3:34 Until Allah granted victory through my hands.

3:37 I fought the Persians with a ferocity no one else had reached.

3:41 I sustained numerous wounds.

3:44 I bore them with patience.

3:46 Until they worsened before the Battle of al-Qadisiyyah.

3:49 And there I met my end.
