0:16 I am a Companion from the Ansar.

0:21 I am a nobleman among the nobles of the Khazraj.

0:24 I was one of the six men from the people of Yathrib.

0:27 Who met the Prophet, peace be upon him, in Makkah.

0:32 They embraced Islam before the rest of the Ansar.

0:35 Then I witnessed both Pledges of al-'Aqabah.

0:38 I was an eloquent orator.

0:41 Known for my courage and boldness.

0:44 When the Prophet, peace be upon him, extended his hand.

0:49 To accept the pledge from the people at the Second Pledge of al-'Aqabah.

0:53 I took his hand and said to my people:

0:56 "O company of the Khazraj!

0:58 Do you realize what you are pledging to this man?"

1:02 They said, "Yes."

1:04 So I said to them, seeking assurance:

1:06 "You are pledging to wage war against all people, both red and black.

1:11 If you believe that if your wealth is exhausted by calamity,

1:16 And your nobles are killed,

1:18 You will abandon him, then do so now.

1:21 For by Allah, if you do that, it will be a disgrace in this world and the Hereafter.

1:26 But if you believe that you will remain loyal to him,

1:29 In what you have invited him to,

1:31 Despite the exhaustion of wealth and the killing of nobles,

1:34 Then take him.

1:36 For by Allah, it is the best of this world and the Hereafter."

1:39 They said:

1:41 "We will take him, despite the loss of wealth and the killing of nobles.

1:45 What will be ours, O Messenger of Allah, if we fulfill that?"

1:50 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

1:53 "Paradise is yours."

1:55 They said:

1:56 "Extend your hand, O Messenger of Allah."

1:59 He extended his hand, and they pledged their allegiance to him.

2:02 By Allah, I did not say those words,

2:06 Except to strengthen the bond for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

2:12 When we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

2:16 The devil screamed from the top of the mountain pass with the loudest voice I had ever heard:

2:22 "O people of the dwellings!

2:24 Will you deal with the blameworthy one [referring to the Prophet] and the renegades with him?

2:27 They have gathered to wage war against you!"

2:30 The Prophet, peace be upon him, said:

2:33 "This is the demon of the mountain pass."

2:35 Meaning: "O enemy of Allah!

2:37 By Allah, I will surely deal with you."

2:40 Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to us:

2:44 "Return to your camps."

2:47 I said, "O Messenger of Allah,

2:50 By the One who sent you with the truth,

2:52 If you wish, we will fall upon the people of Mina tomorrow with our swords."

2:58 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:

3:02 "We have not been commanded to do that.

3:04 Rather, return to your camps."

3:09 After we returned to Madinah,

3:11 My soul was not at rest,

3:13 So I went out to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,

3:17 While he was in Makkah,

3:18 And I stayed with him until he migrated to Madinah.

3:22 Then I migrated there as well.

3:24 So I was both an Ansari and a Muhajiri.

3:28 I participated in the Battle of Uhud.

3:30 And when the Muslims were defeated,

3:32 I stood firm on the battlefield.

3:35 I encountered Sufyan Ibn 'Abd Shams,

3:39 And we exchanged blows with our swords.

3:41 Then Safwan Ibn Umayyah caught up with us,

3:44 And he struck me with his sword.

3:46 Then Sufyan returned to me,

3:48 And he also struck me,

3:50 Until my wounds rendered me unable to move.

3:53 And in that state, I met my death.
