0:39 My people from the Banu al-Najjar brought me to the Prophet, peace be upon him.

0:46 "This boy has memorized seventeen surahs of the Qur'an."

1:17 So I learned it in seventeen days.

1:21 This impressed the Prophet, peace be upon him.

1:26 Thereafter, I came to be called:

1:28 The translator for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.

1:33 I learned the laws of inheritance.

1:35 To the point that the Prophet, peace be upon him, testified for me:

1:39 That I am the most knowledgeable of this Ummah regarding the laws of inheritance.

1:43 During the Wars of Apostasy after the death of the Prophet, peace be upon him,

1:50 And after a group of the people of the Qur'an were killed in the Battle of Yamama,

1:55 Umar Ibn al-Khattab came to the Caliph of the Muslims, Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with them both.

2:01 He suggested to him that the Qur'an be compiled.

2:04 Before death could overtake the remaining reciters.

2:08 This weighed heavily upon Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him.

2:12 He sought guidance from his Lord.

2:14 And he consulted the Companions.

2:16 Then, when he resolved to compile the Qur'an,

2:19 He summoned me and said:

2:21 "You are a young, intelligent man."

2:24 "We do not suspect you of anything."

2:26 "You used to write the revelation for the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."

2:31 "So, track down the Qur'an and compile it."

2:34 I said:

2:36 "How can you do something that the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, did not do?"

2:42 He replied:

2:43 "By Allah, it is a good deed."

2:46 Abu Bakr continued to urge me,

2:49 Until Allah opened my heart to it.

2:53 By Allah, if they had tasked me with moving a mountain from its place,

2:58 It would have been easier for me than what they ordered me to do.

3:02 So I began tracking down its verses from parchment, shoulder blades, and the hearts of men.

3:08 Until I completed the task.

3:11 After the expansion of the Islamic conquests during the era of the Caliph Uthman Ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him,

3:19 And the people differed in their recitations,

3:22 The Caliph ordered me to compile the Qur'an once more into a single recitation.

3:28 It was the final recitation that I heard from the Prophet, peace be upon him,

3:34 During the final review with Gabriel, peace be upon him.

3:39 So I did.

3:41 And I attained the honor of compiling it once again.
